EdTech Show Daily Thursday, February 8, 2018 8 HUE HD Pro: The Fun and Flexible Document Camera The HUE HD Pro is a lightweight, easily adjustable and budget-friendly document camera ideal for use in the classroom. The flexible gooseneck arm makes the camera easy to move and focus on subject material to share with the entire classroom. The camera plugs directly into a USB port on the computer and is able to view a full-size letter sheet and project this to the whiteboard via a PC and projector. The HUE HD Pro features also include built-in LED lights, full 360- degree rotation, manual focus, an option- al base and an integrated USB micro- phone. "Document cameras have been around for many years, but the HUE HD Pro makes using a document camera fun and easy," said Doug Pennekamp, Chief Executive Officer of Education 2000, a trusted HUE partner. "The beauty of this document camera is the simplicity. The camera is small and the gooseneck arm allows you to focus on exactly what you want the class to see." HUE Intuition Software is included with the purchase of the HUE HD Pro. The features of the HUE Intuition Software include the ability to record video and sound, annotate and save images and take snap- shots. The HUE HD Pro can be used in the classroom to demon- strate a science project, take snap- shots of student work, record a technique or experiment to replay to the class and create time-lapse photography. The camera can also be used as a webcam to chat with remote schools in other countries with software such as Skype. The budget-friendly price is a great benefit to schools. The HUE HD Pro with Intuition Software is available for $69.95. "When I first saw the HUE HD Pro I was impressed with the high resolution quality of the image," Pennekamp said. "Then I saw the affordable price. I believe that this document camera is a great teaching tool for any class- room." The camera is available in four different colors: black, blue, green and red. The HUE HD Pro is com- patible with Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8) and Mac OS X (10.5 or higher). Contact your local HUE Trusted Partner, Education 2000, to learn more. FileWave Manages Deployment of 8,000+ iPads to East Allen County Schools Envision the daunting responsibility of distributing 8,000-plus iPads to thou- sands of students at five high schools within a five-day time frame. Each iPad must be encoded with individual student names and ID numbers to ensure that they have access to the correct software and files for their scheduled classes. This was the task conquered by the IT staff at East Allen County Schools (EACS) – one of the largest distributions of iPads in the Midwest. The IT department realized the dis- tribution process was just the beginning. It was imperative that EACS have a pow- erful solution in place to manage all the applications and files that would be deployed to the 8,000-plus devices daily. EACS found the answer they were looking for by partnering with FileWave. They worked with the IT staff every step of the way. The FileWave team was on- site to ensure the smooth distribution of the 8,000-plus iPads to students and teachers, as well as providing the solu- tion necessary to deploy, update and maintain the wide variety of software, apps and files required by each individual student and teacher at EACS. Located in the southeastern section of Fort Wayne, the East Allen County School district is one of the largest in Indiana, including 11 elementary schools and seven secondary schools. William Diehl, the Director of Accountability and Technology at EACS, knew managing today's technol- ogy for a district this size would be a mon- umental project. He and his staff reviewed many classroom mod- els, both 1:1 and BYOD. They decided on a blended learning style that combined tradition- al classroom learning with current technol- ogy, which allowed students to access text- books, lessons and examinations via iPads. To implement their plan, 8,000 iPads would need to be configured and associ- ated with each individual student and dis- tributed as efficiently as possible. Ben Byers, Systems Engineer, was entrusted with this task. "I monitored the FileWave server during the distribution and made sure all the iPads were registered correct- ly. With FileWave's support, everything went smoothly...exceptionally well. They flew engineers in to make sure there were no last-minute issues at the distribution and later, they were able to remote in and kept us going." The successful distribution was the result of months of planning, collaborat- ing and optimizing EACS hardware. Once the iPads were in the hands of the students and teachers, Byers' responsibilities included deploy- ing and updating the innumerable apps that were utilized every day. "With FileWave, we're able to push out a ver- sion of the app and when there's an update, you download it and FileWave will notify the iPad that there is an update to the program. With a curriculum that is constantly changing, the ability to push something out at a moment's notice is a big, big feature." East Allen County Schools have made a huge investment in their future with 8000-plus iPads, and there's no looking back. Visit FileWave at booth #1635. Focusing on Special Student Services Focus School Software understands dis- tricts need a software platform that allows them to effortlessly manage stu- dents who qualify for specially designed services and instruction. Focus' Special Student Services (SSS) module provides districts with necessary tools to support students through many facets of the spe- cial education process. The SSS module offers a customiz- able platform in which districts can design and maintain desired program workflow in a wide variety of areas, including: early identification, response to intervention and early warning track- ing, section 504 eligibility, formal and informal evaluations, individualized edu- cation plans, progress monitoring, event management, student caseload, customiz- able form builder technology and more. Educators and school-based profes- sionals have the ability to create and cus- tomize events under three main programs: Response to Intervention (RtI), Section 504 and Special Education (IEP, evalua- tions). The Focus SSS Student Event Management system allows districts to set requirements on each individual pro- gram event to help guide the end user through the special services process with ease. The system provides for users to receive Portal Alerts, an area for uploads and like all Focus solutions, specific user profiles for secure pro- gram access. In addition, the included Form Builder is a user- friendly tool that allows dis- tricts to build, customize and maintain all forms relevant to the special student serv- ices process. Once forms are created, dis- tricts will have the ability to link these forms to appropriate events and event steps through the SSS set-up menu. Through Form Builder technology, each district has the opportunity to utilize and store forms specific to their unique processes and desired work- flow. The Focus SSS Form Builder validation edit feature allows the district to set up validation logic for each indi- vidual form. Once validation logic is established, the inter- active form will serve as a compliance guide for the end user. The Form Builder also includes features like form widgets, customizable headers and footers, built-in calendar and more.
