The NACS Show is the annual trade show for the Associa- tion for Convenience Retailing, and it was held October 17-20 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. This year's show fea- tured dozens of first-year exhibitors, and among them were a host of brands that we're more used to seeing at events like the Fancy Food Shows or the Natural Products Expos. Rhythm Superfoods, for instance, makes Kale Chips and Beet Chips, and the At Popcornopolis, Every Day Brings a Delicious Reward BY ROBIN MATHER From its beginnings as a single store in Southern California, Popcornopolis has grown to be a mail-order and wholesale powerhouse producer of gourmet popcorn snacks. The company, which Wally and Kathy Arnold founded in 2002, began with a year of trial and error as they partnered with popcorn growers in Indiana and Nebraska and consulted premium ingredient suppli- ers. In 2003, satisfied with their first prod- uct, they opened a 1700-square-foot store in Hollywood, California, on Universal's Continued on Page 6 Plan Now to Attend the Winter Fancy Food Show BY ROBIN MATHER Registration is now open for the 43rd Win- ter Fancy Food Show, to be held from Sun- day, Jan. 21 through Tuesday, Jan. 23, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, Cal- ifornia. Some 25,000 makers and buyers are ex- pected to attend the 2018 show, according to officials at the Specialty Food Associa- tion, which stages the show. "This is a precedent- setting time for industry buyers from all channels," says Phil Kafarakis, President of the Spe- cialty Food Association, which stages the show.
