Dialog Semiconductor Announces Strategic Partnership Dialog Semiconductor plc (XETRA:DLG), a provider of highly integrated power management, AC/DC power conversion, solid state lighting (SSL) and Bluetooth ® low energy (LE) technology, announced a strategic invest- ment in Energous Corporation (NAS- DAQ: WATT), the developer of WattUp ® , a revolutionary wire-free charging tech- nology that provides over-the-air power at a distance. Dialog has agreed to make a $10 million investment in Energous and become the exclusive component supplier of the WattUp integrated circuits (ICs), while Energous is able to leverage Dialog's broad sales and distribution channels to accelerate market adoption. Energous' WattUp technology pro- vides a unique and more extensive wire- less charging experience compared to tra- ditional coil-based technologies. By send- ing energy safely through the air using radio frequencies, WattUp is able to deliv- er intelligent, scalable power in a similar way to a Wi-Fi router. WattUp differs from inductive or resonant wireless charging systems in that it delivers power at a distance, to multiple devices, in any orientation, resulting in a wire-free expe- rience that has the ability to transform the way consumers and industries charge and power electronic devices at home, in the office, in the car and beyond. The partnership combines Energous' uncoupled wireless charging technology and Dialog's power saving technologies to drive market expansion. Energous' WattUp technology uses Dialog's SmartBond ® Bluetooth low energy solu- tion as the out-of-band communications channel between the wireless transmitter and receiver. Dialog's power manage- ment technology is then used to distribute power from the WattUp receiver IC to the rest of the device while Dialog's AC/DC Rapid Charge™ power conversion tech- nology efficiently delivers power to the wireless transmitter. WattUp uses small form factor anten- nas that are formed using the existing device's printed circuit board, removing the need for larger, more expensive coils used in competing solutions today. This enables broader adoption of wireless charging in a larger range of battery-pow- ered devices, such as smartphones, tablets, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, small form factor wearables and Virtual Reality (VR)/Augmented Reality (AR) devices. Accelerated sales growth will be achieved by leveraging Dialog's strength in deliver- ing volume and tier one customer access. "This partnership brings two very complementary companies closer togeth- er, creating numerous benefits," said Stephen R. Rizzone, President and Chief Executive Officer, Energous. "Energous is pleased to be able to leverage Dialog's decades of experience in power-saving technologies as well as its robust sales channel, long-term strategic relationships and world-class fab and backend opera- tions. Working together, we will be able to accelerate the adoption of the WattUp technology and reshape the way electron- ic devices are charged." "Partnering with a top tier semicon- ductor company like Dialog also repre- sents a strong validation for Energous as we prepare to launch WattUp-enabled consumer products with our licensees in early 2017," added Rizzone. "Energous' WattUp technology can be thought of as wireless charging 2.0, and delivers a wireless charging experience that is much closer to what consumers desire by charging devices close up and at a distance, while in use and without com- promising product design or adding exces- sive cost," said Mark Tyndall, Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Strategy, Dialog Semiconductor. "This alliance means that Dialog is able to more closely align our complementary technolo- gies, supply chain and global sales resources to accelerate the deployment of Energous' WattUp wireless transmitter and receiver technology while expanding our innovative use cases and market share." The strategic investment includes positive tactical and strategic implica- tions that will aggressively speed up cus- tomer adoption of WattUp-enabled prod- ucts and streamline chip production. Benefits of the agreement include joint marketing and sales operations, including access to Dialog's channel partners and access to Dialog's customer base to accelerate the adoption of WattUp in smartphone, automotive and emerging IoT applications. AM & Environmental Sustainability Don't Have to Be Mutually Exclusive Additive manufacturing (AM) is an exciting industry that has great implica- tions in many other industries including furniture, automobiles, aerospace and even housing. Another topic that tran- scends all of these industries is environ- mental sustainability. Every industry rep- resented within the AM space has its own set of environmental guidelines or regu- lations that it must follow, and these guidelines and regulations are likely to increase as the years progress. ALGIX 3D allows industrial customers to fulfill their diverse project needs while also knowing they are using materials that are better for the environment and safe for users. ALGIX 3D is a part of the ALGIX family of companies. ALGIX started as a bioplastics company, formulating the potential of algae to produce plastics that are more environmentally sustainable. In April of 2014, ALGIX ventured into the 3D printing and AM industries. Already having the vertical integration within its facility for bioplastics processing and extensive research and development, expanding into developing and produc- ing materials for AM was a fairly easy move. ALGIX 3D produces some of the highest quality, highest performance and environmentally sustainable mate- rials for this industry. ALGIX 3D is constantly developing and commercial- izing innovative materials for the fused filament fabrication (FFF) 3D printing market and resins for the AM market. The ALGIX 3D bioplastic product port- folio currently consists of the following products, available in filament and resin pellet form: ALGA (algae-based), APLA (advanced PLA), DURA (durable and tough), OMNI (all pur- pose) and soon-to-launch YOGA (flexi- ble). Versions of these materials have been custom formulated to work in Big Area Additive Manufacturing (BAAM) industrial 3D printers for high perform- ance and sustainable materials with no warping. All materials produced by ALGIX 3D are compostable and non- toxic, making them better for the envi- ronment and better for users than other options. For more information, go to www.algix3d.com.
