This year's newest prod- uct introductions are Amelie's Fruit Pre- serves. Eight flavors of fruit preserves are offered: Blackberry, Sour Cherry, Fig, Green Fig, Orange, Pumpkin, Pumpkin with Sesame and the best-selling Strawberry. "You actually get the whole piece of straw- berry there," said Fast Pak President Kiro Ivanovski, son of company Founder Ivanco Ivanovski. "With Amelie's and our Va-Va products, we take great care to reproduce the methodology of home cooking on a larger scale. It still does have that taste of Grandma's kitchen." The Amelie's product line also includes cloudy juices such as the top-selling Amelie's Cold Pressed Unfiltered Apple Juice. Among Fast Pak's other product in- troductions for this year are Little Blue Pot Jams and Preserves, Chef K roasted veg- etable spreads, Frosina Baklava and other sweets. The company has also added items to its Vitalia and Vicinni lines, and again this year has added new items to its Va-Va line. Altogether, the Fast Pak products con- stitute a broad range with global variety that appeals to consumers who appreciate premium food products with authentic Old World flavors. Ivanco Ivanovski founded Fast Pak Trad- ing, Inc. in 1991 to bring products from his homeland of Macedonia to the American market. He started with candies, selling them to ethnic foods markets in the north- eastern U.S. and the business took off from there as consumers welcomed a broad range of products from the Balkan region into their American homes. Today, Fast Pak operates a 50,000 square foot warehouse dedicated to specialty foods that the company imports primarily from Macedonia, New Zealand, Serbia and Croa- tia, many of them under the company's Va- Va brand, with top sellers that include a full line of delicious spreads, such as Ajvar, a Balkan specialty made from roasted red pepper, as well as other wonderful veg- etable spreads. The Fast Pak catalog also in- cludes many sweets, jams, preserves, muesli, honey, cheeses and meats. "Most notably, we ensure that our products are of the highest quality, without artificial addi- tives, and as close to nature as any pack- aged food can be," said Kiro Ivanovski. "Through our products stem from the Mediterranean region, we aim to share these wonderful foods with all Americans." Fast Pak Trading is taking a summer off from the Fancy Food Show this year, but for further information, call 201.293.4757 or visit www.fastpakstore.com. GN A Blue Dressed in Black from Käserei Champignon BY LORRIE BAUMANN In a year in which Americans are demon- strating an intense interest in blue cheeses, it's especially interesting to find one that stands out from the rest. That's a good description of Grand Noir, a Käserei Champignon cheese from south- ern Germany that took the Best of Class award in the blue-veined cheese category at the World Champion Cheese Contest earlier this year. Grand Noir and other Käserei Champignon cheeses are im- ported into the United States exclusively by Champignon North America, Inc. This year at the Fancy Food Show, Champignon North America will also be offering its St. Mang Bavarian Made soft- ripened cheeses and unveiling a package redesign for St. Mang Bavarian Made Limburger Cheese in booth #2474. The St. Mang Bavarian Made line includes St. Mang Bavarian Made Soft-ripened Cheese with garden herbs, a variety with mild green peppercorns and another with garlic & chives. "Our products are unique in type and flavor; our innovative cheesemakers continue to refine recipes to craft new and original cheeses; and our sales team is committed to continu- ing retail support to drive consumer in- terest," said Flynne Wiley, Champignon North America's Director of Administra- tion & Marketing. Wiley accepted the award for Grand Noir at the World Championship Cheese gala held April 14 in Madison, Wisconsin. "We are very proud of the quality of cheeses from Käserei Champignon, and we accept this honor on behalf of the master cheese makers who have crafted Grand Noir to perfection," she said at that time. Grand Noir is made from cow milk from regional farms in southern Germany. Each wheel is hand-dipped in black wax and then cold-ripened. The cheese that results is distinctive in its flavor, texture and ap- pearance as the only blue-veined cheese on the market today that's aged in black wax. "We pride ourselves in the high qual- ity of our cheeses, our continued innova- tion in cheesemaking, and our support of our local community," Wiley notes today. "Käserei Champignon brings specialty cheeses to people around the world, yet is still a family-owned company based in the Allgäu region of Bavaria, Germany. We have been making specialty cheeses in Bavaria for over 100 years, and we con- tinue to use only pure cow's milk sourced from our local dairy farms."
