R e s t a u r a n t D a i l y N e w s 3 7 M o n d a y, M a y 2 3 , 2 0 1 6 REMEMBERING BIANKA: A CORE FAMILY STORY CORE would like to welcome you to the 2016 NRA Show! Visit CORE in the Power of Partnership Pavilion, booth #663. A 501(c)(3) charitable organization funded by donations from individuals, food and beverage operators, suppliers and distributors and special events, CORE supports the children of food and beverage employees who are navigating life-altering circumstances or conditions. Why support CORE? Read Bianka's story to understand who CORE is and what it does. CORE was introduced to Bianka and her family in June 2015. Bianka's moth- er, Ana, works in the menu and wellness department of a city school system in Georgia, working with the kitchen staff to test and implement new recipes and analyze recipes to comply with federal regulations. Ana also works with farm- to-school, promoting local foods, work- ing in kitchens as a sub if needed and cooking and preparing foods. Bianka's little sister, Kalie Bella, is three years old. Bianka was diagnosed with brain cancer in February 2014. After going through chemotherapy, she was cancer- free for six months, but in May 2015, Bianka's cancer came back. Starting radi- ation therapy caused a tumor bleed in her brain, and she went home for hospice. She remained stable for a few weeks, and CORE was working with the family to fulfill their grant when she began to feel worse. Scans showed that her tumor had grown, and she was once again sent home for hospice to be with her family in her final days. Bianka passed away on July 29, 2015. After Bianka passed away, CORE made over the bedroom that Bianka and Kalie Bella shared with many of Bianka's favorite things, a new bed to replace her hospital bed, a new coat of paint for the walls and beautiful decor with inspira- tional messages for the walls. Bianka's family will forever have a place to go to remember Bianka and her bright light. Are you interested in learning more or support- ing a family like Bianka's? You can refer a family, become a COREporate member or event sponsor, host your own promotion or event to ben- efit CORE or become a CORE Ambassador and spread awareness for CORE's mission to food and beverage employees across the industry and the country.
