P r o d u c e S h o w D a i l y 7 7 S u n d a y, O c t o b e r 2 5 , 2 0 1 5 Mooney, most notably a silver medal from the Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition. Extra virgin olive oils from the northern hemisphere were judged at the Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition this April. According to the press release sent out by the organization, this year's northern hemisphere competition received 500 extra virgin olive oils from 294 produc- ers. Oils from Italy, Spain and California fared well in the competition, including Bella Sun Luci's Arbequina Estate Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which took home a sil- ver medal in the delicate category. Bella Sun Luci Arbequina Extra Virgin Olive Oil is made from Arbequina olives grown on the Mooney Family Estate in the fertile Feather River Valley in northern California. The Spanish vari- etal of olives is harvested at the peak of freshness and cold-pressed within hours to create an aromatic, rich and full-bod- ied extra virgin olive oil with a hint of cherry. Mooney Farms plans to bring this award-winning product to the produce floor on a new rack that showcases Bella Sun Luci Extra Virgin Olive Oil front Mooney Farm (Cont'd. from p. 1) and center. The olive oil will be in addi- tion to an existing line of sun-dried tomato products, which include both dry- and oil-packed tomatoes. The rack will feature full color graphics stating that Bella Sun Luci Sun Dried Tomatoes and Bella Sun Luci Extra Virgin Olive Oil are "perfectly paired for produce" and are coupled "for the best dressed salad." This marketing campaign is aimed at introducing customers to a new product from a brand they already know and trust. Bella Sun Luci is a line of premium Mediterranean-inspired products creat- ed from authentic family recipes. The line includes a variety of deliciously sweet sun-dried tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes in olive oil, pasta sauces, bruschetta spreads, estate-grown olive oil, risotto and marinades. Bella Sun Luci is produced by Mooney Farms, a third-generation, family-owned compa- ny based in Chico, California, whose values are rooted in quality, integrity and family. Mooney Farms is the pre- mier producer of sun-dried tomatoes in the United States. MJ: When Stef and I started this busi- ness in 2008, our primary focus was on agriculture. We saw that there were a number of complex challenges that farm- ers were facing. After a lot of due dili- gence, we created a solution that addressed a diverse set of problems with an innovative technology that is environ- mentally respectful, easy to use and man- age, and cost-effective. Within a few years, when we had collected a wide variety of evidence that proved how well Magnation was working for our cus- tomers, we expanded our product line based on the great feedback we were get- ting. We learned that people were using Magnation in all sorts of inventive ways that were saving them time, money and water, and greatly helping them to grow healthier, more marketable crops. We have since expanded way beyond farm irrigation and agriculture, because we've seen how this technology has so many powerful applications in other areas, such as industrial businesses, municipal appli- cations, golf and turf, home and gardens, livestock and poultry and more. We've seen a huge increase in the number of customers, now worldwide, and the vari- ety of ways they are successfully using the products is exciting. PSD: Are people resistant to trying a method that is not considered the stan- dard way of doing things? Magnation (Cont'd. from p. 1) MJ: As with any innovation, people first want to see solid results before they'll invest in something new. Everyone with a product can make claims, but with Magnation, the proof lies in the large number of customers who have been using our system for years now and the rapidly growing number of new cus- tomers. We've lately been focusing on collecting impressive real-life stories that demonstrate the power and value of using Magnation. We're building a respectable library of references and evidence for anyone who is interested in trying out our products. I'm always happy to put people in touch with existing customers or point them to the case studies and collection of supporting data on our web site. PSD: Apparently there are other water treatment systems that claim to offer sim- ilar benefits as Magnation. What gives you the competitive edge? MJ: After years of field-testing these types of products, we are confident that the technology and construction behind our system is, hands down, better than anything else out there. Magnation sys- tems are easy to install, require no main- tenance nor energy for years, and through experimentation and custom engineering, our products are developed using specifi- cations that are unique to each way they're used. I understand that people just love it, yet you say you're making some changes. Tell me about the inspiration behind this decision. AM: Just Add Lettuce has so many fans that I wanted to make it even better for them. So the Just Add Lettuce line is what I would call new and improved. PSD: How so? AM: We changed the flavor profile by creating new infused marinated dress- ings. We've added some vinegar and real citrus flavors naturally without chemi- cals. Also, each of the four Just Add Lettuce flavors now has slightly smaller pieces for increased coverage so every single leaf of lettuce will be covered with this amazing new taste experience. PSD: It seems you have an ethnic her- itage angle. What are the other flavors? AM: There's the Spanish version, too. And we have the fourth variety which is Bleu Cheese and Cranberries. The idea is Formaggio (Cont'd. from p. 1) that we want to mix something into our salad other than just a liquid dressing. All the Just Add Lettuce flavors or varieties have chunks of fresh produce, cheese, seasonings, herbs and spices, and each one is very characteristic and distinct from the others. There's one for every- one, and everybody has a favorite. JAL is the world's first three-dimensional salad dressing, and it's just become new and improved after a great deal of research and development by me and my team. PSD: How do you think the product line's biggest fans will react to the improvements? AM: I know that our loyal customers will love the improvements. We at Formaggio like to keep offering new and exciting products for our customers, and so far we've received a tremendous amount of positive feedback about these changes. I am confident that this will not only please our current fan base, but will expand the customer base tremendously.
