E d Te c h S h o w D a i l y 3 3 W e d n e s d a y, F e b r u a r y 4 , 2 0 1 5 for BYOD, guest and AD domain man- aged devices. Organizations need a cost-effective solution that can associate a device's identity attributes with its IP address in real-time to enable next-generation Web content, firewall and bandwidth policies by user identity (group), device type and ownership (whether a device is district- or personally-liable). IdentityConnect™ for iboss Web Security IdentityConnect is a purpose-built soft- ware plug-in that enables iboss™ Web Security to assign device policies based on Contextual Intelligence™ informa- tion, which includes user identity (group), location, time and ownership (liability) for all devices on the network (wired, wireless, VPN). IdentityConnect is an annual sub- scription-based, cloud managed service offering that enables identity-based poli- cy management of AD domain managed, personally-owned (BYOD), guest and non-browser network devices at a frac- tion of the cost of homegrown or com- plex NAC alternatives. End User Self-Service Portals IdentityConnect integrates with iboss Network Security redirection portal tech- nology to provide the following End User Self-Service Portals: User Authentication Portal – Captures user identity, AD/LDAP group membership, and ownership for users that have existing organization directory credentials (username and password). Guest Access Self-Enrollment Portal – Assigns identity and role to users based on their function (guest, vendor, contractor). Network Device Self-Registration BYOD (Cont'd. from p. 1) Portal – Associates identity and role with non-browser network devices (gaming, media, printers). Contextual Intelligence Publishing and Reporting IdentityConnect collects and correlates information from a variety of network and directory sources, and publishes con- textual intelligence information that enables real-time identity-based firewall, Web content filter, and bandwidth/data consumption policies. IdentityConnect includes a Reporting Dashboard that pro- vides real-time and historical contextual intelligence visibility for compliance reporting, trending and forensic analysis. IdentityConnect also provides real- time contextual intelligence data to other third-party security management systems such as SIEM, IDS and Advanced Threat Protection providers to enhance their abil- ity to identify and track managed and non- managed (BYOD) devices in real-time as they traverse the network. This enhanced visibility equates to more accurate and timely security decisions and control. Managed Support Services All Impulse products come with an industry exclusive and comprehensive maintenance program. This includes 24x7x365 system monitoring, problem determination and resolution technical support, daily remote backups and device type profiling updates, and application of no-charge maintenance and software ver- sion upgrades. PL: UMRA saves time by allowing sys- tem admins to securely and rapidly make bulk changes to AD by referencing CSV files or integrating with your information systems. The benefit is that it removes the need to manually manage and maintain complicated or cumbersome scripts, allowing your administrator to focus on more critical tasks. UMRA basically bridges the gap between the SIS or HRMS systems to Active Directory and other director services while creating accounts in downstream systems or the cloud. ESD: What do you mean by 'down- stream systems and cloud?' PL: Administrators are faced with hav- ing to enter data many times in several different formats for various other sys- tems. UMRA can be leveraged to create accounts in cloud based systems such as Google Apps or Office 365 to synchro- nize with Active Directory and the stu- dent information system. We have worked with many other systems like Moodle, Skyward and Destiny, and have out-of-the-box connectors to many other systems. If you are curious about the con- nectors, please stop by booth #2427 and ask for me. ESD: You mentioned that UMRA creates and manages accounts within Active Directory. Do you also work Novell? PL: Yes, we can indeed mange user accounts within e-Directory. I think that Tools4ever (Cont'd. from p. 1) is where UMRA exhibits great flexibility by being able to work with many differ- ent platforms. We have had several implementations that keep data synchro- nized between AD and e-Directory. UMRA can also manage GroupWise and Exchange in these mixed environments. ESD: What distinguishes your company from the competition? PL: We have a very solid niche with the educational market. Tools4ever is nim- ble, responsive and focused on the client's needs and expectations. We are very entrepreneurial in nature, which allows us to be incredibly responsive to our client's technical needs. With this elevated level of customer service cou- pled with value-based price point, Tools4ever is considered the company of choice for school districts seeking a user management solution. ESD: If a school district is interested in UMRA or a demonstration, how can you be contacted? PL: Please visit us at www.tools4ever.com or feel free to call us at 888.770.4242. User Management Resource Administrator solves identity manage- ment problems and lets your IT depart- ment focus on other tasks. ESD: What makes Symantec unique? RR: Our threat intelligence making up our global intelligence network is derived from data we collect from hun- dreds of thousands of threat sensors in over 130 countries, and that's in addi- tion to the threat data we have from our Norton user community of over 100 million systems. Not only that, we field one quarter of the world's email and validate over two billion visual certificates daily. This information allows us not only to make our prod- ucts smarter, it bridges the gap from intelligence to taking action with the data that we have. ESD: What products do you see as being hottest this year? RR: As attacks become more targeted and advanced, we see that solutions that protect against what are referred to as Advanced Persistent Threats will emerge and provide more of a cross-vendor intel- ligence, taking advantage of different vendors systems and providing more interoperability. Also we see that over 90 percent of students are using smart devices for their elearning services, so we'll see solutions offering a convergence of Identity and Access Management to both validate identities and provide two-factor authen- tication for both the internal and external applications, particularly external appli- cations living in a third-party cloud envi- ronment. ESD: Compare the position of your products and their technology against the current market. Symantec (Cont'd. from p. 1) RR: Many of our security solutions sit in the top right Gardner quadrant. Gardner is the market leader for third-party insight into and evaluation of technology. For example, our Endpoint Security solu- tion, both enterprise and consumer, is a market leader, and our Data Loss Prevention has been the leading data loss solution for the last eight years, per Gardner. So those are two top-tier solu- tions. ESD: With classroom technology con- stantly evolving, how does Symantec stand out and foster confidence that clients will have their security needs met both today and in coming years. RR: Symantec's Global Intelligence Network helps give us a view into the escalating threat landscape and allows us to produce protective technologies. This allows us to adequately support our cus- tomers as the attack surface expands form cloud to mobile to virtualization environments. So I think having that threat intelligence, and that data that we're able to gather, allows us to stay ahead of the curve and create more pro- tective solutions to support our customer base. ESD: Tell our readers about your trade show objectives, plans, products, promo- tions, etc. RR: There are two objectives we want to accomplish with our presence at this conference. First, we want to inform and educate attendees on the broader threat landscape and industry best practices. And then we want to show how Symantec solutions and capabilities align with industry best practice solu- tions to fend off threats and help educa- tional institutions deliver higher quality services. Managing classroom devices is part of a teachers' responsibility in the class- room. This responsibility can be time consuming and stressful. "Teachers have a lot of responsibili- ty in the classroom and have added even more responsibilities with adding devices in the classroom," Pennekamp said. "Teachers have to make sure devices are charged, resolve connectivity issues and get students to the digital activity. Along with these responsibilities, teachers also have to continue to manage students, cre- ate lesson plans, do assessments and have Education 2000 (Cont'd. from p. 4) parent conferences. All of these things are more than just classroom manage- ment, but education efficiency. "By improving education efficiency, I believe education effectiveness also improves," Pennekamp said. "TabPilot helps to achieve effectiveness in the class- room by ensuring that students are on task." TabPilot is working on expanding to function with iOS devices. TabPilot for the iOS platform is currently being tested and implemented on a limited release with the TabPilot Early Experience Program. For schools interested in testing TabPilot on their student iOS devices, please contact Education 2000. To learn more about TabPilot, stop by booth #623.
