Fo o d M a g i c D a i l y S u n d a y, J u n e 2 2 , 2 0 1 4 1 8 meeting two unmet needs with our two new products. One, called Benecarb™ Low GI Complex, is a naturally-derived ingredient that is an important new addi- tion to the blood sugar health category, allowing consumer food companies to reduce the glycemic index of their prod- ucts as well as make a range of healthier blood sugar support claims. The other new ingredient is a Vitamin D derived from whole food. This ingredient gives food manufacturers the ability to cost-effective- ly deliver the RDA of Vitamin D. It is plant-based, and hence vegan. It is a high- ly concentrated form and does not impact the taste and texture of the food products into which it is included. I would prefer to not say any more about these here but invite the readers to stop by booth 4941. FMD: Are there additional products that you'll be featuring? SF: Yes. We will be featuring Hytolive ® Olive Fruit Extract. Hytolive is a 100 percent natural solvent-free water extract of olive fruits, containing a high concen- tration of natural hydroxytyrosol. Hydroxytyrosol is the major phenolic compound found in olives, and provides a great part of the health benefits of both olive fruit and virgin olive oil. In 2011, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) approved a heart health claim for olive oil polyphenols – the most impor- tant of which is hydroxytyrosol – for car- PLT Health Solutions ( Cont'd. from p. 1) diovascular health. EFSA considers that polyphenols in olives – standardized by their content of hydroxytyrosol – as suf- ficiently characterized in relation to the claimed effects. With Vibrant Harvest™ Whole Food Powders, you get all the nutrients, all the flavor, all the color and all the aroma via a patented technology that gently evaporates water molecules in foods. Another one is Wellmune ® WGP. Six published clinical studies and over $300 million in research support Wellmune WGP's claims: improved gen- eral immune health and wellness, poten- tial to reduce cold/flu symptoms, increased energy and vitality and improved mental clarity. Satiereal ® is a patented, clinically-studied satiety ingre- dient derived from saffron, that by induc- ing a satiated feeling, encourages weight loss while eliminating frustration. For extended shelf life, we have Aquarox ® , Inolens ® and Synerox ® Rosemary extracts. FMD: How can our readers learn more about PLT Health Solutions and its prod- ucts? SF: Visit our IFT booth 4941 or our web- site: www.plthealth.com. We look for- ward to meeting everyone at the show this year! For more information, go to www.plthealth.com, email plt@plthealth .com, call 973-984-0900 or stop by booth 4941. show this year. We pride ourselves on our food grade dry ice, which is tradi- tionally used for temperature control during processing or shipping final products. We use superior dry ice con- tainers to minimize sublimation, only charge true and honest weights saving our customers money and utilize our extensive distribution network to meet our customers' needs day in and day out. We are also showcasing the latest line of IceTech and Phoenix dry ice blast- ing machines. The IceTech dry ice blast- ing machines are versatile, allowing users to clean delicately or aggressively dependent upon the specific application. Many times because of the IceTech noz- zle and splitter technology, users get a superior clean while using less air and blasting dry ice. The Phoenix dry ice blasting machines are all pneumatic, which is a great option when electricity is not read- ily available. They are built on an upright frame with large wheels, making them easy to navigate in food processing plants. FMD: What would you say makes your company unique? SS: Continental Carbonic offers both blasting dry ice and dry ice blasting equipment in a comprehensive offering. We are committed to making sure that dry ice blasting customers are properly Continental Carbonic Products (Cont'd. from p. 1) equipped with a dry ice blasting machine fit for their application. We consider ourselves the Single Source Advantage for dry ice blasting, because we not only offer high quality blasting dry ice and a top-of-the-line selection of dry ice blasting machines, but also expe- rienced sales managers, training and technical support. FMD: How can food processing compa- nies benefit by using dry ice blasting? SS: The IceTech and Phoenix dry ice blasting machines are versatile and portable, allowing our customers to use dry ice blasting on many different appli- cations within their facility. Dry ice blasting allows food processors to clean without water, which results in no sec- ondary media clean-up and a reduction of bacterial counts on a wide range of machines, from packagers such as multi-head weighers and snack food bagmakers to mixers, conveyors and other processing equipment. This saves companies time and money by keeping the defect level and loss of product down. In addition, dry ice blasting is often faster and more reliable than tradi- tional manual cleaning. PA: At this conference we are excited to introduce Pervaporation, broadening the core of our thermal separation technolo- gies. In addition, we are very pleased to finally launch the development of our "Continuous Vacuum Diffusion Dryer" to replace conventional technologies. We are also showcasing our Rotothermョ C for pilot plants and R&D labs. It is the most economical and efficient pilot evap- orator that we have ever designed. We brought an actual unit that we will be demonstrating at IFT 2014 booth 3552. FMD: What would you say makes your company unique? PA: I feel that what differentiates us from our competitors is our unique approach to solving difficult problems and our incredibly versatile pilot testing capabili- ties. Also, we have been around for almost 80 years and yet we are one of only a small handful of companies to do its own manufacturing in the U.S. FMD: What was your program last year? PA: Last year we focused on alternatives to spray drying, and we continue to do so! We encourage our customers to con- sider the Rototherm for drying applica- tions in lieu of spray drying. The Rototherm has much lower capital and installation cost, uses up to 67 percent Artisan Industries ( Cont'd. from p. 1) less energy, can evaporate up to 99 per- cent of a feed stream in one step and pro- duces minimal entrainment and dusting. FMD: What was the most significant event or series of events affecting your company in the past year? PA: Having been a family owned and managed company for almost 80 years, we finally broke with tradition and brought in an industry veteran with over 30 years of experience to run the compa- ny, and so far it has paid enormous divi- dends; amongst other things, this summer we will be moving to a brand new facili- ty twice the size of our existing plant and building a new state-of-the-art Pilot Plant equipped with a clean room and a small tolling operation. FMD: What distinguishes your products from the competition? PA: We have a unique aroma stripping/deodorizing technology that can perform most of the applications cur- rently being done in wiped-film or spin- ning cone columns, but with the major benefit of having no moving parts. The rush is on to change formulations in a multitude of prepared food, bakery and snack prod- ucts, and Columbus's technical team con- tinues to provide its customers with inno- vative solutions to meet these challenges. For example, these solutions have involved the development of trans-fat- free shortenings for the baking industry using interesterified (IE) shortenings and Columbus Vegetable Oils ( Cont'd. from p. 1) blends of palm oil with other oils to meet the desired properties for the applications. Other options include the develop- ment of value-added products using pre- mium vegetable oil products and other ingredients; the result include trans-fat- free, non-genetically modified (Non- GMO), extended shelf-life and fry-life products that target unique nutritional properties, flavor profiles and mouth feel. When you work with Columbus, you are not just buying oils or shorten- ings, you are getting a whole experience dedicated to your success. Visit Columbus Vegetable Oils at booth 647. HAUTE UP THE BARBECUE WITH PREMIUM MEATS A cookout doesn't really need much to make it a great time – some primal instinct reacts to the aroma and flavor of charcoal grilling and suddenly everything tastes good. But to truly elevate the expe- rience D'Artagnan, the nation's leading purveyor of all-natural and organic poul- try and game, free-range and antibiotic- and hormone-free meats, recommends trading up in quality with premium meats for the ultimate backyard fete. Kobe-Style Wagyu Beef Patties Made with 100 percent Kobe beef, these patties owe their incomparably buttery texture and exquisite flavor to high mar- bling and the perfect lean/fat ratio of 80/20. Once you've taken this step up it will be hard to take a step back. Buffalo Burgers Sweeter, richer and leaner than beef, pork, turkey and even chicken, buffalo burgers are deeply flavorful. A source of great pro- tein, iron and other nutrients, buffalo makes for a tasty, good-for-you burger alternative. Uncured Beef and Duck Hot Dogs Hot dogs become "haute dogs" when they are 100 percent natural, made without arti- ficial flavors or other ingredients, and con- tain no nitrates, nitrites or preservatives. D'Artagnan's Uncured Duck Hot Dogs are made with flavorful Pekin duck meat and provide a dog with flair for the true foodie, reassuringly natural and high quality, con- taining none of the "mystery ingredients" that have given ordinary dogs a bad name. Buffalo Ribeye Steak These steaks are slightly sweet, lean, dense and a bit gamey for a satisfying taste. 100 percent pasture-raised buffalo with access to grain and hay and no hor- mones or antibiotics. The steaks are also gluten-free, high in protein, lower in fat cholesterol and calories compared to beef.
