F o o d M a g i c D a i l y 2 9 S u n d a y, J u l y 1 4 , 2 0 1 3 producing titanium dioxide pigment for over 75 years. "We've been producing grades that conform to the strict directives and regu- lations governing food products for a number of years," explained Nelson. "It means we've got a lot of skill and expe- rience in optimizing the use of titanium dioxide for the food market. We're bring- ing all of that experience and expertise direct to the North American market with TIOXIDE Purity 71 pigment." Nelson says the starting point for the launch of the new brand was listening to what customers want. "Customers are looking for consistent product perform- ance every time," he explained. "They want to know they can rely on our prod- uct for tightly-controlled particle size distribution. This means they can achieve product consistency in terms of color, opacity and surface texture." Huntsman Pigments invests in strin- gent process control and has a production Huntsman Pigments (Cont'd. from p. 1) stream dedicated to Purity pigments. "We take the whole quality issue very serious- ly," Nelson said. Nelson added that Huntsman Pigments is keen to share its expertise with customers. "We make it our busi- ness to maintain a thorough under- standing of regulatory requirements. Our regulatory and product steward- ship teams help customers to make informed decisions about product development. Our technical teams in our laboratory and testing facilities provide customers with formulation and application support. Like I say, there's a lot that that we can share with visitors at this year's IFT Expo!" It is the most economical and efficient pilot evaporator that we have ever designed. We brought an actual unit that we will be demonstrating at IFT 2013, booth #1783. FMD: What would you say makes your company unique? PA: I feel that what differentiates us from our competitors is our unique approach to solving difficult problems and our incredibly versatile pilot testing capabili- ties. Also, we have been around for almost 80 years, and we're one of a small handful of companies that continues to do their own manufacturing in the U.S. FMD: What was your program last year? PA: Last year we focused on alternatives to spray drying, and we continue to do so! We encourage our customers to con- sider the Rototherm technology for dry- ing applications in lieu of spray drying. The Rototherm can has much lower cap- ital and installation cost, uses up to 67 percent less energy, can evaporate up to 99 percent of a feed stream in one step, and produces minimal entrainment and dusting. FMD: Who are some of the companies you've worked with? PA: Some of the many companies we've Artisan Industries (Cont'd. from p. 1) worked with are Nestle, Unilever, Cargill, Kemin, Lipton, Mars, Bunge, ADM, Tyson and Kraft. FMD: What distinguishes your products from the competition? PA: We have a unique aroma stripping/deodorizing technology that can perform most of the applications cur- rently being done in wiped-film or spin- ning cone columns, but with the major benefit of having no moving parts. FMD: How do you handle sales? PA: We don't have a sales staff, since a typical salesperson may not be able to give our customers the answers they need. Instead, our Process Engineers handle all sales activities at a highly tech- nical level in order to solve our cus- tomer's problems more efficiently. FMD: To what do you attribute your company's success? PA: Our unique approach to solving difficult problems, combining or elimi- nating process steps without compro- mising on quality, and focusing on helping our customers produce the highest quality products. With the latest research demonstrating that GanedenBC30 may support protein absorption, the ingredient can be added to food and beverages for a probiotic sports nutrition product marketed to ath- letes, weekend warriors and even non- athletes upping their fitness activity and looking for an edge. Kid-Friendly A growing number of parents want to impart the benefits of probiotics for immune and digestive support to their children. But the options are limited to supplements and dairy-based drinks. A kids' probiotic snack or beverage would certainly find ample room on retail shelves. The Senior Set. Ten-thousand people will turn 65 every day in the U.S. until 2030. Today's sen- iors want to stay active and be healthy, and are willing to pay for it. Many sen- iors want alternative delivery systems for their health products, such as bever- Ganeden Biotech (Cont'd. from p. 1) ages and foods instead of pills. Probiotic drinks and foods, correctly marketed for boomers, are missing in the marketplace. Currently, a study is underway that is looking at how GanedenBC30 may positively influence the changes in gut flora and immune function in the aging population. GanedenBC30's stability and versatility allows manufacturers to create a whole new range of probiotic functional foods and beverages to serve emerging mar- kets demanding healthier options, according to Mike Bush, Vice President Business Development, Ganeden Biotech. "Science is showing us just how much probiotics go beyond gut health; it's exciting for us and certainly serves consumers looking to add healthy foods and beverages to their lives," Bush said. Applications engineering repre- sents the know-how and basis for NDC's business and this has helped drive and expand its installed base of many thousands of NIR food measure- ment gauges. Through its work with the industry, NDC has developed a large suite of measurement algorithms for its MM710e On-Line Gauge and InfraLab At-Line Analyzer that avoid lengthy calibration procedures when delivered to the customer's site. Recognizing that customers have their preferred labora- NDC (Cont'd. from p. 1) tory reference methods, NDC provides GaugeToolsXL software for their gauges that enable comparison of instrument results with data from the customer 's laboratory. This helps ensure that any adjustment to the facto- ry calibration is based on statistically valid data. In order to benefit from the data cap- tured from the process, NDC's customers can export their data from their at-line and on-line measurements to commercial spreadsheets and other programs, to give maximum insight into the process. So whether it's on-line or at-line measure- ment, NDC's measurements will help improve quality, reduce manufacturing costs and drive down waste. NDC prod- ucts are supported in over 60 countries and are characterized by their ease of use, intuitive interfaces and low maintenance. Industrial Test System's new handheld dip strip photometer uses a patented test proce- dure for quick and accurate water quality testing results. With no glass, powders or tablets, it's safe for all process areas. The eXact ® Micro 20 dual wave- length photometer is the ultimate water quality tester, delivering design and engineering with the latest patented technologies to deliver sustainable water testing solutions that cost less. The eXact Micro 20 is waterproof (IP- 67) and quickly does on-site testing for over 35 direct-read water quality param- eters without lookup tables, counting drops or matching colors. It features a narrow band wavelength filter for opti- mal accuracy, long-life LEDs, and a built-in cell for ultra-performance. Each parameter stores the 20 previous results, for a total of over 600. This high-quality unit self cali- brates (no returning it to the manufac- turer) and automatically selects the optimal wavelength (525 nm or 638 nm) for each parameter. The meter uses Industrial Test System's patented EZ- 3™ Reagent Delivery Method for streamlined testing. Simply push a but- ton and dip an eXact Strip into the built- in sample cell for 20 seconds (releasing the reagents), discard the strip and read the exact results! It provides smooth and precise reagent dispersion into sam- ples without leaving suspended solids that adversely affect test results. Compliance with USEPA levels for free/total chlorine and chlorine dioxide testing attests to the meter's quality. The eXact Micro 20 dual wave- length photometer is available in three portable kits packed in a sturdy case with eXact Strip reagents. It's the pre- ferred tool for accurately and quickly testing water quality. Perfect for: veg- etable and produce washing, poultry, meat, and dairy processing equipment and facility sanitizing regulations. Try it now risk free with Industrial Test System's industry leading 30-day money back guarantee.
