From Asian-inspired food to gourmet breakfast sandwiches, this year's food trends take consumers on an exploration of flavors while demanding higher quality. Fontanini Italian Meats has taken the top food trends for 2013 and created several ideas incorporating their products so you too can get in on this year's action. The small bites trend has been tak- ing the food industry by storm with more and more restaurants offering an extended appetizer and small bites menu. Following right in toe with this trend, Fontanini offers its customers a new appetizer concept with Sausage Smack-Yums™. "We take our colossal garlic Italian sausage chunks and toss them in a spe- cially formulated sweet and spicy buffalo sauce," explains Gene Fontanini, Chief Executive Officer. "This perfectly pop- able appetizer hits all the right notes with our customers – exceptional flavor with an even better price! Wouldn't you love a 100 percent profit margin on a single item too?" Another popular trend this year is borrowing flavors from abroad, espe- cially Asian- and Spanish-inspired ingredients and dishes. Fontanini's Pacific Rim pizza layers mandarin sauce, an Asian flavored pork sausage topping, mozzarella cheese, and peapods to create a truly unique and fla- vorful pie. The company also takes its whole muscle, vinegar-based chorizo sausage chunk, and uses it to create sev- eral new menu ideas, including a south- western chorizo pizza and a mac 'n cheese chorizo side dish. Further, 2013 promises new trends for the fast food industry segment as well, offering more gourmet options and higher priced value menu items. Continued on Page 22 Continued on Page 22 Lee M.
