www.kitchenwarenews.com n FEBRUARY 2014 n KITCHENWARE NEWS & HOUSEWARES REVIEW HOUSEWARES SHOW PREVIEW 15 Houseware Show Preview New Food Storage Products from Joseph Joseph Offer Both Beautiful Form and Function BY LORRIE BAUMANN Joseph Joseph is expecting to make a big splash at the International Home + Housewares Show again this year, with the whole fleet of new product introductions that we expect from the company, which makes the Chicago show its main springboard into the American market each year. "Every year we try and launch between 20 and 40 new products, split over two launches," says Damon Willmott, Senior Vice President of Sales for Joseph Joseph. "The International Home + Housewares Show is just a great hub for us to meet all our clients under one roof. It's a great way of presenting our range, our brand, our company, with other people under one roof." This year, the new Nest Storage system will have pride of place in the Joseph Joseph booth. There are lots of food storage containers that are dishwasher, freezer and microwave-safe, and these containers are all those things too, but what really makes them stand out is the space-saving design. The container boxes nest inside each other, and the lids all snap together. They're also color-coded, with a color chip on the bottom of each container box that matches the color on the rim of its seal, thus getting around that whole problem of having to paw through a cupboard to find the container that's the right size for the leftover mashed potatoes that will turn into the topping for tomorrow night's shepherd's pie and then having to search again for the matching lid. "They use a lot less space, and it's easy to identify which box goes with which lid," Willmott says. "This is our hero launch this year. It's getting a lot of attention." NestStorage is expected to retail for $34.99 for the set. Somewhere in the booth very close to the Nest Storage, housewares show attendees will be able to see a couple of interesting storage carousels as well, one for food and one for spices. The storage containers for both the FoodStore Carousel and the SpiceStore Carousel are made of borosilicate glass, a very robust glass that's used for the glassware in chemistry laboratories, where it has to stand up to harsh chemicals, knocks on the lab bench and the slippery fingers of technicians who forgot to glove up first. Each dishwasher-safe jar has an airtight seal to help maintain the freshness of the contents, and they stack on top of each other on a triangular rotating carousel with a non-slip base. The triangular shape of the carousel means that it will fit into the corner of a cupboard, but these sets are so beautifully designed that many people are going to want to keep them on the countertop. The FoodStore Carousel includes six stackable jars of varying sizes and is designed to retail for $59.99. The SpiceStore Carousel has two 6.5-ounce jars and eight 3-ounce jars, so they offer enough capacity to hold the contents of the spice bottles that are customarily sold in grocery markets. This set is ideal for the environmentally conscious cook who prefers to buy spices from the bulk bins at the grocery in order to be sure of getting the freshest and most flavorful product without extra packaging. The set comes with a lot of removable label tabs that go onto the lids, and because the jars are glass, they don't hold the aromas from the spices the way that some plastics can, so that when a jar's contents are changed, the user can simply rinse it out to wash away all trace of the previous contents, and then the new spice won't be contaminated by the flavors of the jar's previous contents. The SpiceStore Carousel is expected to retail for $39.99, and both the SpiceStore and FoodStore Carousels will be available for shipment at the time of the housewares show.
