Kitchenware News & Housewares Review Show Daily 4 3 Monday, March 16, 2020 Knife Sharpening Made Easy with Spyderco's Sharpmaker Sharp knives are a cook's most important tools, but for many people, sharpening remains an elusive skill. Thanks to Spyderco of Golden, Colorado, it doesn't have to be. Before Spyderco ever made knives, it created revolutionary tools to keep them sharp. Drawing from years of hard- earned experience selling kitchen knives and sharpeners as a "pitchman" at fairs and tradeshows, company Founder Sal Glesser developed the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker ® – Spyderco's very first knife-related product. Four decades later, the Sharpmaker is still empowering even novices to quickly bring all of their knives to a razor edge with just a few minutes' practice. The key to sharpening is carefully removing steel at the edge while main- taining a consistent, proper angle between the blade and the abrasive. The Sharpmaker simplifies this process by setting its twin abrasive rods at the cor- rect angles for you. All you have to do is keep the plane of your blade vertical and draw the edge alternately along each rod. Two sets of holes in the Sharpmaker's durable ABS plastic base hold the rods at either 30 degrees (15 degrees per side – for thin-bladed kitchen knives) or 40 degrees (20 degress per side – for general utility knives). It includes two sets of high alumina ceram- ic rods: medium-grit to profile edges quickly and fine-grit for professional- grade finishing. Two metal safety rods protect your hand during the sharpening process while the system's lid doubles as a sturdy handhold. The same exact method quickly sharpens bread knives and other serrated blades by using the edges of the triangu- lar rods and a slightly looser grip to ensure the abrasive contacts the full length of the cutting edge – even between the serration teeth. Like all Spyderco's sharpeners, the Sharpmaker is quick and easy to use, doesn't require oil, water or complicated clamps and fixtures, and doesn't need electricity. When its abrasive rods become dirty, they are easily cleaned with hot water and ordinary household cleanser. All components store in the self-contained base and lid and every sys- tem includes a detailed instruction book and DVD that guide you step-by-step through the process of sharpening knives, poultry shears, vegetable peelers and many other cutting tools. Spyderco's Galley-V™ sharpener works the same way as the Sharpmaker, but is intended for seasoned cooks who like to "touch-up" their knives regularly. Its compact, high-impact-plastic base is designed to be clamped or even perma- nently mounted to a countertop or other work surface. Star-shaped holes in the base position the sharpener's fine ceramic rods at a 30-degree angle (15 degrees per side) to easily create thin, ultra-keen edges on all kitchen knives. The extra-long stones are ideal for sharpening large knives and can be rotated to orient their edges to quickly sharpen serrated blades. They are also easily cleaned with ordinary household cleanser. Spyderco's Tri- Angle Sharpmaker and Galley-V literally take all the mystery out of sharp- ening and make it achiev- able for everyone. Custom Carts and Storage Racks from Oasis Concepts Oasis Concepts is introducing new enter- tainment carts and storage racks this month. "We used the same principles that helped create our existing lineup of fold- ing carts, islands, tables and racks to develop these new items," said Kelvin Ng, President. "In the process, a few more patents were achieved. Please stop by our booth to review these new prod- ucts." Oasis Concepts specializes in fold- able kitchen islands, foldable storage racks, as well as other household prod- ucts that are collapsible, portable, requir- ing no assembly. Its patented precision- hinge folding mechanisms were applied creatively to its whole line of foldable products, allowing them to open and close easily within seconds. Each product is built with durability and convenience in mind. When not in use, they can be folded up to just a few inches thick to save space. In recent years, Oasis Concepts had added quick assembly products that require tool- less assembly with- in half a minute to no more than two minutes. One of the examples is its round bar table with foldable tabletop wings, which saves space when it is not in use. "The folding carts and racks can be customized to fit your needs. We can make them in a number of sizes and with any number of shelves," said Ng. "You can also choose the materials you would like. We offer powder coated steel of var- ious colors, hardwood such as Rubberwood or Acacia, MDF with woodgrain veneer, plus supplemen- tary materials such as tempered glass and plas- tics, and of course we can design new items with a creative combination of any of the above materials, plus more in the future." Oasis Concepts can custom design carts and storage racks to fit your require- ments. See the complete line at booth #S4054.
