Kitchenware News & Housewares Review Show Daily Monday, March 4, 2019 1 8 New Lékué Quick Quinoa & Rice Cooker Makes Healthy Quinoa in Minutes Adding more whole grains and nutritious seeds into your diet is easier with the new Lékué Quick Quinoa & Rice Cooker. The product's colander drains water when preparing quinoa and small grains such as millet, amaranth, bulgur, wheat berries and oats as well as different types of couscous and rice. Directions inside the box give the recommended amount of liquid and cooking times required to per- fectly cook quinoa and grains. Once the correct amount of water and the quinoa, grain or rice is added, the colander is placed on top as a lid with vents. The cooker is placed in the microwave, and within minutes the grains are cooked. One pot, one step. The plastic base dou- bles as a serving dish. Quinoa dates back three to four thousand years to the Incas in the South American countries of Peru, Chile and Bolivia. Quinoa, pronounced "keen-wa," is a seed from the same family as beets, chard and rice. It is gluten-free and a great grain alternative for someone who has celiac disease, a gluten sensitivity or is allergic to wheat. Quinoa contains all nine essential amino acids, making it a complete protein and good for vegetarians or vegans who may not be getting enough protein. A half cup cooked serving has about 110 calories. It is a good source of fiber, folate, phosphorous, mag- nesium and zinc and it is high in copper and man- ganese. With the cooker, the quinoa seeds are perfectly transformed into a delicious grain-like substitute with a slightly nutty flavor. It can be used in breakfast bowls, added to salads at lunch and as a side dish for dinner. It's important to rinse the seeds before cooking unless the pack- age says the seeds have already been rinsed. If the seeds are not rinsed, the compound that coats the seeds can give quinoa a slightly bitter taste. To give quinoa more flavor, toast the seeds in a skillet until golden brown and then transfer to the Lékué Quick Quinoa & Rice Cooker. The new cooker is backed by a 10-year warranty and retails for $25. For more information, go to www.lekueusa.com. Every piece is imbued with its own sense of place, its own sense of belonging. Every piece is an individual. Burleigh has been making its wares in England since 1851. Much of what it does now remains unchanged from that date. Every piece of Burleigh is made by hand. Hand and eye and heart, mixed with centuries of experience and passion. Experience that is passed down, passed on, inherited and shared. In this way, Burleigh ensures that the way it makes is the best way. The patterns that you see on its wares are created from engraved copper rollers, which in themselves are little works of art, used daily to print designs onto a spe- cial tissue paper using a colored paste that is made up fresh every day. Each part of the process of making Burleigh requires skill and patience and experience. Every piece that is made passes through the many hands that produce Burleigh ware at the Middleport Pottery, its home since 1889. Burleigh uses skills you won't find anywhere else in the world. Unique skills. Skills that are combined with a passion for clay and a passion for getting it right. Skills mixed with just a little bit of magic, too. The magic that turns grey, damp clay into something pure white, something permanent, something brilliant. Skill, attention to detail and dedication to preserving a time-honored craft tradi- tion is what makes Burleigh the way it is today and always has been. Burleigh is handmade for a reason, because handmade is the best way. Teaware and tableware are what Burleigh is best known for and are the foundations of the Burleigh range; however, home- wares and gift ranges are rela- tively new to the Burleigh port- folio and have proven to be a great way to extend the appeal of Burleigh designs into new cate- gories. Burleigh encourages you to start collecting today and not only enjoy your Burleigh ware, but embrace its rich heritage.
