Oser Founder EdTech Show Daily Wednesday, February 6, 2019 4 Turn Any Surface Interactive with the ELMO CRB-2 ELMO has a longstanding reputation as a global leader in education technology – namely, its industry-leading document cameras are used by millions of educa- tors around the world – but ELMO is about to take the interactive display mar- ket by storm with its newest product. ELMO introduces the new CRB-2 Interactive Writing Tool, a plug-and-play solution that turns any surface (yes, you read that right!) into an interactive dis- play – and does so for a fraction of the cost of traditional electronic whiteboards. The CRB-2 comes with three main components: a sensor bar, a wireless transmitter and an interactive pen. Together, they turn any surface into an interactive display. Simply attach the CRB-2 sensor bar above a television monitor, projector screen or even onto an empty wall, and the room easily becomes an interactive workspace. The system is managed via wireless transmitter that reaches up to 50 feet, allowing plenty of flexibility for set-up options. Traditional interactive flat panels cost thousands of dollars for a single unit and require permanent installation to the wall of a classroom. The CRB-2 is a cost-friendly solution for schools facing budgetary restraints. For the same cost of converting one classroom with an interactive flat panel, schools could turn at least five classrooms inter- active with CRB-2 units. Additionally, the full CRB-2 system weighs less than 1 pound, making it per- fect for on-the-go presentations or mov- ing from one class- room to another as the school's needs change. The CRB-2 Interactive Writing Tool can be used PC-free when paired with your favorite ELMO document camera. With the CRB-2's interactive pen, you can draw, highlight, annotate, erase, create geometric shapes and more. Connect your favorite ELMO document camera to the CRB-2 system and capture images or record videos while annotating your presentation using the ELMO Interactive Toolbox software. Stop by ELMO's booth to try out the CRB-2 Interactive Writing Tool and see the rest of the ELMO product line. For more information, go to www.elmousa.com or stop by booth #1273. Library and Classroom Materials from Mackin An interview with Randal Heise, President, Mackin. ESD: Tell our readers about Mackin and what the company has to offer. RH: Mackin is a 35-year-old company offering high-quality educational resources, including printed books in all bindings, eBooks, audiobooks, databas- es, read-alongs and videos, along with professionally curated classroom and leveled libraries, new school collections, curriculum materials and more for schools and libraries. We have also made tremendous inroads in the makerspace arena with MackinMaker that has already created a positive and successful stir in the makerspace community. Our award-winning free digital con- tent management system, MackinVIA™, which is accessible by over nine million students around the globe, provides dis- tricts, schools, students and libraries with free digital reader apps for a variety of mobile devices and desktop computers, along with free content to start. MackinVIA has been recognized by Tech & Learning as a 2015, 2016 and 2017 ISTE Conference Best in Show Winner and is a 2015, 2016 and 2017 recipient of their Award of Excellence as an outstand- ing technology education product. In 2017, MackinVIA won a Platinum Award from Modern Library Awards and Product of the Year in 2018. These achievements are validation of the effort Mackin has put into making a superior product for users in education. We also have a free funding source for schools and libraries called MackinFunds. Hundreds of schools uti- lize this free program because it is a has- sle-free, online donation program that allows schools to collect donations and spend 100 percent of the proceeds on any print or digital resource Mackin sells. ESD: What trends are you seeing in the library and classroom market? RH: Today's school library market is presently enduring the largest paradigm shift it has experienced since the intro- duction of the stand-alone online auto- mated catalog. K–12 school libraries are being challenged to remain relevant in a world that is quickly transforming into a digital platform, and I believe that this is the very biggest opportunity ever for school libraries and profession- al school librarians to showcase their importance and relevancy within the educational process. Teacher-Librarians must seize the moment and take the lead as purveyors of knowledge and vital information sources and resources that will serve to accelerate and increase the ability of every classroom teacher and administrator to improve and enhance learning. ESD: How do you view your role as an educational resource vendor in today's market? RH: Our role is more crucial than ever as we provide schools and libraries with the most economical and versatile resources they need. Mackin has taken that involvement a step further with the for- mation of the Transform Your School Library (TYSL) Movement. We have assembled an accomplished board of pro- fessionals who are fully engaged in pro- viding support to librarians focused on transitioning their library to meet the educational challenges of today and the future. Librarians looking for support and information can learn more at www.mackintysl.com. ESD: In addition to visiting the Mackin booth, how can people learn more about your company? RH: People can visit our website at www.mackin.com for information about Mackin and all of our amazing divisions, or contact us online to start a live chat.
