EdTech Show Daily 1 7 Tuesday, February 5, 2019 has come into a school to replace their old devices that simply didn't go the dis- tance. That's why it's important to have an education technology expert on your side to help you choose the best device that fits your technology plan needs while staying within your budget. Don't Use It 'Til You Lose It The "use it until you lose it" approach – using devices until they die instead of upgrading before then – is ill advised for two reasons. One, schools may lose the ability to leverage their existing devices to get top dollar through a buyback program. If a device is dead, it's no longer an asset that could be used to defray costs in the next round of purchasing. Two, students and teachers miss out on the latest features and software when old devices simply become too outdated to keep up with most recent updates. While the old school men- tality of using something for the life of the item may still apply to sports uniforms or desks that don't have any trade-in value, it's actually less cost effective to use a Troxell (Cont'd. from p. 1) device until it's worn out. Time Your Buy Those in the educational space under- stand that there is a season for buying educational technology. Typically, first quarter of the year is when technology is being reviewed, demoed, assessed and planned to purchase for summer installa- tions. However, this year is not going to be a typical year. In a press release dated September 29, 2018, Bob Swan, Intel Chief Financial Officer and Interim Chief Executive Officer, announced the impending shortage of Intel chipsets used in entry-level PCs, thus effecting device inventory and allocation levels. What can you do to mitigate the impact this news could have on your device purchases? Start the season early. Give yourself extra time by contacting your Troxell Account Executive to help you plan ahead and extend your lead time so you can stay ahead of schedule and on budget. Trinseo's EMERGE Advanced Resins, which are specialty engineered performance plastics, have been designed to meet the exacting specifications for Currant including cosmetic, reliability and UL-driven safety requirements. Among the reasons Currant selected Trinseo as a partner was because of the company's color matching capability, including its ability to achieve an ultra- bright white. Hanwha Techwin Introduces New Eco-Friendly Baby Monitor Hanwha Techwin (formerly Samsung Techwin) debuted the Wisenet BabyView Eco PT wireless video baby monitor – the latest in its line of consumer video monitoring and home surveillance prod- ucts. The BabyView Eco PT includes an energy efficient mode for power conser- vation and has a camera that allows users to pan up to 295 degrees and tilt up to 110 degrees for a full range of visibility in any room of the home where children are present. "Hanwha Techwin is committed to providing home security products that effortlessly enable people to keep an eye on their homes and children," said Richard Simone, Hanwha Techwin America Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "The BabyView Eco PT is the newest addition to our line of video baby monitors, helping people keep their babies even safer with low-power con- sumption and a full range of vision con- trol." Parents can now keep a closer eye on their children thanks to the remote-con- trol pan and tilt function of the new BabyView Eco PT camera. Especially useful for babies who have begun to crawl or inquisitive toddlers who love to explore, the BabyView Eco PT allows parents to maneuver the camera vertical- ly and horizontally to get a better view of the surrounding area. The BabyView Eco PT lets parents create a more energy efficient and envi- ronmentally friendly home for their chil- dren with its energy-saving Eco mode. While the device does come with VOX mode as well, the Eco mode gives users another way to further con- serve power. When in Eco mode, the monitor only wakes up when the camera detects sound, extending the monitor's battery life. Each user can set their own sound sensitivity level. In addition, the monitor and camera connect by only using radio frequency signals every two seconds, ensuring lower radiation in the baby's room. The color 4.3" LCD touchscreen monitor display provides clear, real- time video with at least six hours of bat- tery life. The BabyView Eco PT also has a long-range radio frequency of 900 feet within line of sight, giving parents the freedom to do what they need to around the house without losing contact with their baby. It supports up to four cameras, and features multiple viewing modes: single, sequence and multi-cam- era view. The BabyView Eco PT is equipped with a room temper- ature sensor, allow- ing parents to keep an eye on the tem- perature of the baby's room through the monitor. In addition, the camera has a built- in microphone and high-quality speaker for two-way talk. The device comes pre-programmed with four lullabies and three types of white noise to soothe the baby and help them fall asleep. Additionally, it's equipped with night vision capabilities up to 16 feet to produce clear images in low-light or dark conditions, using built- in non-visible infrared LED lights. Pricing and availability of the new BabyView Eco PT will be announced soon. Visit www.wisenetlife.com for more infor- mation.
