EdTech Show Daily 1 5 Tuesday, January 29, 2019 Boxlight Acquires EOS Education, Expanding Professional Development Boxlight wants to provide the best tools to help teachers improve student outcomes. Through its newest subsidiary, EOS Education, Boxlight can extend its com- mitment to schools and districts by provid- ing a rich portfolio of classroom training, professional development and educator certification services. Together, they can help schools get the most out of their train- ing and PD budget through customized programs that put the teacher first. "This addition is part of our contin- ued effort to provide the most compre- hensive solution suite to schools and dis- tricts," said Mark Elliott, Chief Executive Officer of Boxlight. "For tech- nology integrations to be successful, teachers need proper training, ongoing professional development and support. By adding the EOS Education team, we can immediately fill that need and pro- vide a more robust portfolio of end-to- end services that complement our hard- ware and software solutions, giving edu- cators the training they need to fully leverage the technology's full range of possibilities." EOS programs are designed with cus- tomization in mind, focusing on building comfort and confidence using the specific hardware and software platforms avail- able to the teacher. Content is adjusted to be relevant for dif- ferent grade bands and subject areas, and then the applica- tion of this technolo- gy is scaffolded to meet instructional priorities. The acquisition brings significant professional development and training talent to Boxlight by adding Daniel Leis and Dr. Aleksandra Leis. Together, with decades of experience managing high- growth professional services, they will bring an incredible synergy to Boxlight. Whether it's whole-class learning, small-group collaboration, formative assessment or STEM-based learning, Boxlight offers services, software and hardware that enable teachers to easily and effectively enhance student out- comes and build essential skills such as critical thinking, collab- oration, communication and creativity. "Boxlight and EOS share a common vision of providing the right mix of technology and services to meet the evolving needs of educators and their students. We are excited to build upon the deep rela- tionships Boxlight has with its clients and partners to ultimately deliver long- term value that benefits teachers and stu- dents," said Daniel Leis. Educators and school-based profes- sionals have the ability to create and cus- tomize events under three main pro- grams: Response to Intervention (RtI), Section 504 and Special Education (IEP, evaluations). The Focus SSS Student Event Management system allows dis- tricts to set requirements on each individ- ual program event to help guide the end user through the special services process with ease. The system provides for users to receive portal alerts, an area for uploads, and like all Focus solutions, specific user profiles for secure program access. In addition, the included Form Builder is a user friendly tool that allows districts to build, customize and maintain all forms relevant to the special student Focus School Software (Cont'd. from p. 1) services process. Once forms are created, districts will have the ability to link these forms to appropriate events and event steps through the SSS set-up menu. Through Form Builder technology, each district has the opportunity to utilize and store forms specific to their unique processes and desired workflow. The Focus SSS Form Builder valida- tion edit feature allows the district to set up validation logic for each individual form. Once validation logic is estab- lished, the interactive form will serve as a compliance guide for the end user. The Form Builder also includes features like form widgets, customizable headers and footers, a built-in calendar and more. There is also some truth to "you get what you pay for" regarding certain pur- chases. Troxell has worked with thousands of schools across the country, and has seen the results of choosing the most minimal investment. In fact, time and time again Troxell has come into a school to replace their old devices that simply didn't go the distance. That's why it's important to have an education technology expert on your side to help you choose the best device that fits your technology plan needs while staying within your budget. Don't Use It 'Til You Lose It The "use it until you lose it" approach – using devices until they die instead of upgrading before then – is ill advised for two reasons. One, schools may lose the ability to leverage their existing devices to get top dollar through a buyback pro- gram. If a device is dead, it's no longer an asset that could be used to defray costs in the next round of purchasing. Two, stu- dents and teachers miss out on the latest features and software when old devices simply become too outdated to keep up with most recent updates. While the old school mentality of using something for the life of the item may still apply to Troxell (Cont'd. from p. 1) sports uniforms or desks that don't have any trade-in value, it's actually less cost effective to use a device until it's worn out. Time Your Buy Those in the educational space under- stand that there is a season for buying educational technology. Typically, first quarter of the year is when technology is being reviewed, demoed, assessed and planned to purchase for summer installa- tions. However, this year is not going to be a typical year. In a press release dated September 29, 2018, Bob Swan, Intel Chief Financial Officer and Interim Chief Executive Officer, announced the impending shortage of Intel chipsets used in entry-level PCs, thus effecting device inventory and allocation levels. What can you do to mitigate the impact this news could have on your device purchases? Start the season early. Give yourself extra time by contacting your Troxell Account Executive to help you plan ahead and extend your lead time so you can stay ahead of schedule and on budget.
