With more than 29,000 students and 1,400 faculty members, Orange Unified School District (California) was primed to dramatically increase the use of digital learning resources. "Students, having integrated tech- nology into their daily lives, were naturally included to want more digital learning in their academic lives," said Tam Nguyen, Technology Director at the district. "At the same time," Nguyen commented, "faculty saw the opportunity to engage students in new and meaningful ways." Due to concerns over security and ease of access, however, teachers were losing valuable instructional time as they struggled with a fragmented, confusing col- How One District Streamlined Digital Access and Saved Time An interview with Bethany Dineen, Marketing Manager, Anchor Audio. ESD: What is new this year at Anchor Audio? BD: Anchor Audio has just launched an entire new generation of portable sound and PA systems at the beginning of June. We've devel- oped a new wireless platform we call AnchorLink, and now use lithium ion batteries in our sound systems. An interview with James Symons, Chief Executive Officer, LocknCharge. ESD: What do you see as technology's role in educa- tion? JS: I believe that technology's role in education is to enable educators to rethink the way they teach students. More than just replacing pencil and paper, it serves as a vehicle to transform curriculum and engage every stu- dent on a personalized level. We've seen this in deploy- ment after deployment – if schools just deploy devices to replace their textbooks or computer rooms without revamping the curriculum and training for their staff, With the number of devices skyrocketing and the budgets for IT personnel shrinking, the need for a reliable, effective and secure endpoint management solution becomes integral to the success of any modern technology initiative. For businesses and education alike, the need to deploy software, run updates, revoke privileges and provide needed mainte- nance on 100, 500 or 50,000 devices makes a robust endpoint management software a necessity. As the num- ber of supported users and devices has increased, so has the concern for increased management and security. With BYOD/CYOD initiatives rising in popularity, per- sonal device usage and home access add additional risks. Think stability. Think innovation.
