Jack Bates started Down to Earth Home and Garden, at 532 Olive Street, in 1977 with a group of f riends. All shared the same vision: Down to Earth would be a source of organic and natural fertilizers and gardening products for enlightened gardeners, but it would also offer the durable, well-made equipment that kitchen gardeners needed to process their harvests. Jack has since retired, but the store is still locally owned by a group of Eugene residents. They're buying houses. This good news was delivered by market researcher Marsha Everton this year at the International Home + Housewares Show. The Millennial generation is comprised of people born between 1980 and 1995, so that they're turning 23 to 38 this year. Everton is a Principal in the AIMsights Group, marketing consulting company experts in Millennial-Baby Boomer intergenerational dynamics.
