Highlights from the Kontos Foods booth included Pre-Grilled Cocktail Flatbreads, Pre-Grilled Mini Oval Flatbreads and All- Natural, French-Style Crepes. Also on dis- play were Greek Lifestyle Flatbread, which has twice the protein, half the carbohy- drates, fewer calories and less sugar than other flatbreads, as well as Classic Baklava and Nut Rolls, perfect, bite-sized desserts to end a meal or snack on any time of the day. The Sandwich & Snack Show is the largest gathering in Europe of suppliers to the fast food and food on-the-go sectors, with more than 400 brands represented and expected 12,000 attendees from the food in- dustry. Grab-and-go food is all the rage, with 14.2 percent of consumers consuming 5 or more snacks per day in 2017, up from 11.5 percent the year prior, according to IRI data. "In the U.S. and practically everywhere, con- sumers are looking for convenient meal op- tions," said Steve Kontos, Owner of Kontos Foods. "Our flatbread can quickly be trans- formed into bite-sized appetizers, personal pizzas, or anything the imagination affords. Our Baklava and Nut Rolls are bite-sized treats that complement any cuisine and are perfect for quick snacking." GN Kontos Foods to Exhibit at Sandwich & Snack Show Fresh food e-commerce is disrupting the retail landscape in China by making it eas- ier for consumers to purchase fresh, healthy, and imported food products. Ac- cording to iResearch, in 2017 the approxi- mate gross market value of China's fresh food e-commerce market reached RMB 140 billion, a nearly 60 percent increase from 2016. Leading the change are e-commerce giants using their experience in online re- tail, logistics, and deep pockets to invest in 'new retail' business models, cold food chain, and the supply chain. New retail businesses, such as 7Fresh and HEMA, which are backed by www.jd.com and Alibaba respectively, operate integrated online and offline supermarkets. While of- fline consumers are treated to experiential shopping and in-market restaurants, online customers can purchase fresh foods and in some cases expect them to be delivered within 30-minutes. Currently, these instant online services are mostly limited to tier-1 and tier-2 Chinese cities because of the cold food chain infrastructure. Recognizing the importance of cold chain logistics, SIAL China, Asia's largest food innovation exhi- bition, scheduled for May 16 to May 18 in Shanghai, will again cooperate with Cold Chain Logistic Committee (CCLC) of China Logistics and Purchasing Federation (CFLP) , the leading cold chain governmen- tal association of China, and dedicate Hall W5 to international cold chain logistics. The International Cold Chain Logistics Hall will be dedicated to exhibiting the newest innovations in cold transportation, warehousing, packaging, preserving, infor- mation technology, and energy solutions. In total, more than 150 exhibitors will be par- ticipating, including cold chain logistics service providers JD Logistics, SF Express Cold Chains, HNA Cold Chains and CJ Rokin Logistics, as well as energy saving, and equipment manufacturers such as Testo, Aucma, Speed Log and Mitsubishi Heavy In- dustries. Along with new innovations and sector leaders, several events have been or- ganized to inform professional visitors, in- cluding an "Ask the Expert" program for cold warehousing planning, a last-mile so- lution competition and presentation and a global cold chain market trend seminar. Fresh food e-commerce is an emerging trend that will be explored at the global cold chain market trend seminar. With ac- cess to quality and imported foods being two of the main drivers of online consumer demand, online retailers are eager to find new suppliers and increase their interna- tional product offerings. To date, fruits, milk and dairy, vegetables, meat, poultry and eggs, and seafood have emerged as the top five fresh food categories purchased by online shoppers. To support these con- sumer demands, SIAL China 2018 will oc- cupy 13 Halls, including four dedicated zones, Meat (E5, E6, E7), Dairy (E5), Wine (E4) and Beverage (E4). These dedicated zones will be occupied by both domestic companies like China Oil & Foodstuffs Corporation and international country pavilions from Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Africa. Leading international players like Manildra Group from Australia, Pran Export from Bangladesh, St Mamet, Nick Winters, Deltatrade from France, Biotech Nutrition KFT from Hungary, Al-Faheem Meatex Pvt. Ltd., Allanasons Pvt. Ltd. and HMA Argo Industries Ltd. from India, SAMMONTANA from Italy, Chek Hup and White Coffee from Malaysia, Teeuwissen from the Netherlands, Super Group from Singapore, Karan Beef from South Africa, SunHae from South Korea, Sri Lanka Tea Board, Sappe and Malee Group from Thai- land, Solen and Venus from Turkey, and Me Trang from Vietnam will be among the ex- pected 3,400 exhibitors and 110,000 pro- fessional visitors at SIAL China 2018.
