NATURALLY HEALTHY www.gourmetnews.com n MARCH 2018 n GOURMET NEWS N H 1 5 2 farm-owned hemp food agri-business that produces bulk hemp food ingredients for repackaging into retail brands and for blending into hemp infused foods. Natu- rally non-GMO and gluten-free, hempseed is one of the 10 super foods, uniquely dense with digestible protein and essential fatty acids. Both as food ingredients and stand-alone products, the delicious, nutty nutrition of the hemp heart, along with omega-packed hempseed oil and nourish- ing hemp protein powder, are gaining in popularity every day. We offer a complete supply chain and private label solution for sourcing top quality, competitively priced, organic and conventional bulk hemp food ingredients. GN: What type of ingredients do you pro- duce? KF: We produce hulled hempseed, toasted hulled, toasted whole hempseed, cold- pressed hempseed oil and hemp powders. Our customers include functional food, cos- metic, hemp food retail brands and nutraceu- tical companies that make anything from protein smoothies and cereals to pet supple- ments and body care. HPS processes hemp grain in its state-of-the-art, high capacity and dedicated hemp-only facilities. Our process- ing facilities adhere to the standards for food quality and safety as per the FFSC 22000, GFSI, Kosher, Certified Organic and Non- GMO protocols. GN: What sets HPS apart from other hemp food processors? KF: Several factors make HPS the premier hemp food processor. Our ownership/man- agement team is comprised of professional agronomists possessing more than 75 years of cumulative expertise in industrial hemp breeding, hemp grain variety development, hemp production management and bulk hemp food ingredient processing. Because we know quality starts in the field, HPS farmers use top quality pedigreed seed sourced from our sister company Hemp Ge- netics International, and we work closely with those farmers to provide them with a comprehensive and customized hemp pro- duction support system and on-site visits. This combined vertically integrated hemp production expertise along the entire value chain results in bulk hemp food ingredients of outstanding quality, color, taste and value. In early 2017, we opened a brand new state- of-the-art hempseed dehulling facility, which increases our overall processing capacity to 80,000 pounds per day for hulled hempseed. We believe in giving back both with our money and our time. Through our annual 5 percent pre-tax charitable donation, we sup- port agriculture development projects that benefit food insecure smallholder farmers. Finally, our customers appreciate that HPS never competes with the brands we serve; we are a brand supplier, not a retail brand. Our motto says it all: 'From our fields to your brand!' Loma Linda Blue (Cont'd. from p. 1) JH: Who doesn't love tacos? I grew up with super fond memories of 'taco night' at our house. The unique flavors and tex- tures that came with all the different com- ponents of building my very own taco made it a fun and exciting meal experi- ence. That's just what we aimed to do with our ketchups and BBQ sauces, so we're bringing that fun to a cuisine that has be- come so much more mainstream in Amer- ican cuisine than it was when I was a kid. Let's face it, with how busy we all are these days with work, kids and managing everything in between, we're always look- ing for shortcuts in the kitchen that don't sacrifice quality. GN: Tell our readers more about each of the flavors. JH: The Approachably Mild is just that. It's a sauce with my 4-year-old daughter's palate in mind that is super flavorful, but not at all spicy. On top of our tomato base, we add car- rots, citrus and bell pepper. The sauce is bright and earthy, and for me, incredibly nos- talgic. Next is our Actually Spicy. We say if kick in the pants had a flavor, this would be it. Those same tomatoes in our other prod- ucts get kicked up with several different kinds of spicy peppers (habanero, jalapeño and cayenne, to name a few) that create dif- ferent levels of heat sensations at the begin- ning, middle and end. Last is our Uniquely Korean, which is probably our most nuanced sauce of the line. It's also tomato-based, but gets some sweetness from tamari, some umami from miso, and a little bit of heat from both Bird's Eye chile and gochugaru (Korean red pepper). GN: What else is in store for Red Duck in 2018? JH: In addition to launching these taco sauces and growing into new regions both nationally and internationally, we're excited to announce that we're becoming a certified B-Corporation. While a triple bottom line has always been a part of our company's ethos, we're incredibly excited to be joining a group of companies that we have long ad- mired from both consumer and business per- spectives. We've always been committed to a clean and honest supply chain – this step reinforces that commitment and will hold us accountable to all of our stakeholders. Visit Red Duck Foods at booth #N1938. Red Duck (Cont'd. from p. 1) Greece with the most beneficial omega-3s, EPA and DHA, from deep, cold-water fish. It's mild, smooth and comes in four flavors: natural, lemon, garlic and basil. It's never been easier to add healthy heart nutrients into your diet. Extra virgin olive oil from high-quality olives naturally contains important antioxi- dants, called polyphenols. Like other antiox- idants, polyphenols help fight oxidative stress and promote a healthy inflammatory response. The company recommends 1 table- spoon of Olive Your Heart per day for opti- mal nutritional benefits. Olive Your Heart starts with quality Terra Creta extra virgin olive oil. Terra Creta olive oil is derived from ancient olive trees in the Kolymvari region of western Crete, Greece. The family-owned trees are cultivated with a long tradition and passion, environmental awareness and scientific support by Cretan farmers. Every single bottle of Terra Creta extra virgin olive oil must meet four strict qual- ity measures: 1) Healthy attributes – it must be low in acidity and have a signifi- cant amount of polyphenols, vitamin E and other beneficial elements; 2) Organoleptic evaluation (taste-flavor) – it must have organoleptic properties well above accepted average levels in each cat- egory; 3) Contaminant-free – every batch of olive oil is analyzed for undesirable el- ements to ensure they exceed international standards and have guaranteed consis- tency; 4) Special analysis – the olive oil undergoes further analysis required by the International Olive Oil Council and the United States. Each serving of Olive Your Heart also of- fers a healthy dose of the important omega- 3s EPA and DHA. The American Heart Association suggests we eat at least two 3.5- ounce servings of salmon or other oily fish per week in order to receive the recom- mended intake of omega-3s. Since most Americans don't get this amount from diet alone, Olive Your Heart can be a smart and delicious option. Carlson Olive Your Heart also naturally provides omega-9 oleic acid (a staple of the Mediterranean diet). Omega-9 supports a healthy inflammatory response, and pro- motes immune and cardiovascular system health. When our body has enough omega- 3s and omega-6, it can produce omega-9. However, if we don't have enough omega- 3s and omega-6, then we must get omega-9 from our diet. For a delicious, premium olive oil that packs the powerful punch of polyphenols and sneaks in the health benefits of omega- 3s and omega-9, choose Carlson Olive Your Heart.
