16 The Cheese Guide Carr Valley Cheese Co. took home 10 awards at this year's World Cheese Awards. The 30th anniversary edition of the competition was held in London by the Guild of Fine Foods. The World Cheese Awards is the largest "cheese-only" competition in the world with 3,000 cheeses from 35 different countries submitted. The competition is steep, and the process required 230 judges traveling from 29 different countries. This is Carr Valley's 10th year placing in the World Cheese Awards. Over those competitions, Carr Valley has earned more than 50 total wins. Most notably, this year Carr Valley received a super gold award for Shepherd's Blend, an artisan cheese made with a proprietary blend of sheep, goat and cow milk. This super gold status makes it one of the best 66 cheeses in the world. This is Carr Valley's fifth super gold awarded variety. Past winners include Smoked Billy Blue (2015), Billy Blue (2013), Cave Aged Marisa (2013) and Cardona (2011). "We work hard and put a lot of care into the cheeses we make," says Owner and Master Cheesemaker Sid Cook. "It's really gratifying to see the final product get recognition on the world stage." "Shepherd's Blend is a very special cheese. We've formulated the blend of sheep, goat and cow milk to the perfect ratio in order to capture all the flavors," he added. "The final product is a beautiful off-white 10-pound wheel that we age at higher temperature to encourage the flora which gives it a smooth, buttery flavor." Carr Valley's National Sales Manager, Dave Christoff, says, "It's fun to see the creations made by our cheesemakers stand-out amongst the competition. Carr Valley has kept all the Old World techniques and quality that customers look for, but adds an innovative twist to products, such as American Originals like Shepherd's Blend, Menage, Mobay, Cocoa Cardona and many more." wins Carr Valley Cheese Super Gold for Shepherd's Blend
