Aftermarket Daily News 8 9 Tuesday, October 31, 2017 suppliers, dealers, shops and OEMs alike. The need to enhance your value proposition to stay ahead of the competi- tion is as important as ever. We need to remember this industry is based on rela- tionships and today those are more important than ever. To me relationships with business partners will define how successful you are in this business. ADN: Are paper catalogs a thing of the past? MD: Today, more and more technicians are ordering their parts online and we expect that trend to continue. Suppliers should be focused on providing shops and technicians with the best online prod- uct information along with an easy order- ing process. Additionally, by having a strong online product catalog that includes high-resolution photos and product information, technicians may be better able to identify the parts they need. ADN: We know that electrification is transforming the IAM. What can shops do to stay ahead of the game? MD: Every vehicle systems is different. With the rapid growth of technology in vehicles, it's important for shops and technicians to stay up to date on the latest electrification repair trends. Technicians should take advantage of training oppor- tunities offered by suppliers that provide online tutorials and on-demand videos to help keep up with these changing tends. ACDelco engineers for example, work closely with GM vehicle engineers to get the inside scoop on electronic replace- ment parts so we can help our shop part- ners stay ahead of the game. ADN: Will eTailing disrupt the whole- sale distribution model? ACDelco (Cont'd. from p. 1) MD: If anything, eTailing creates oppor- tunities for convenient access of replace- ment parts. We don't, however, see this as a replacement for the wholesale distribu- tion model. Here at ACDelco we offer our products through a variety of channels based on where our customers shop, so we can conveniently get our products in the hands of shops and DIYs. At the end of the day though, the independent after- market is a chain of relationships, and we nurture each and every one of them. ADN: How are counterfeit parts affect- ing the industry? MD: Counterfeiting is a top concern of the industry. It jeopardizes the reputation of the entire aftermarket. Most impor- tantly, we need to be concerned for the safety of drivers on the road. Suppliers need to work with law enforcement agen- cies, other automotive manufacturers, investigators and prosecutors to help identify and apprehend anyone who is counterfeiting. ADN: What's the most important change happening in the independent aftermar- ket? MD: In the years to come, I believe we will see the independent aftermarket move as a whole towards premium prod- ucts. While non-OE replacement prod- ucts can be attractive in price, customers might find they are disappointed if the quality and durability do not meet those of the OE replacement products. For 101 years, ACDelco has deliv- ered exceptional quality and value as the true GM OE maintenance and parts brand, and we'll continue to improve products and our business as the industry evolves.
