GOURMET NEWS AUGUST 2017 www.gourmetnews.com SFF WRAP-UP 2 0 Empowering Farmers, Growing Sustainably, Staying True to Organic Founded nearly 20 years ago, ecoLife ® was established with a passion to offer sustainable organic food, all while empowering and improving the daily lives of farming families. ecoLife provides farming communi- ties with assistance and free educa- tion in current social, economic and environmental best practices. It's a relationship and a way of doing busi- ness that truly sets the company apart. ecoLife offers more than 20 organic items across four food categories, includ- ing aromatic Basmati rice, Jasmine rice, ancient grains, pulses and many other nu- trient-rich items. The unique item in the line is the Quick Cook Brown Basmati Rice. What differentiates this organic brown rice is its reduced cooking time of just 12 minutes, a convenient alternative to the 40 minutes nor- mally required to pre- pare brown rice. The full range of au- thentic rice, ancient grains, pulses and beans are all USDA Organic and Non- GMO Verified prod- ucts. With a farm to fork approach, ecoLife partners with farming families to offer sus- tainably grown, cultivated and harvested products from their country of origin. Good for people. Funky Chunky 888.473.8659 www.funkychunky.com Funky Chunky Launches New Café Line Red Duck has launched the first three fla- vors of its new line of organic Taco Sauces at the Summer Fancy Food Show. They are Ap- proachably Mild, Uniquely Korean and Actually Spicy. All of the sauces are organic and gluten free. Although they're called taco sauces, the ingredients are so simple and clean that they make great cooking sauces as well. Approachably Mild is super fla- vorful, but not at all spicy, with carrots, cit- rus and bell pepper added to a tomato base. Actually Spicy includes three differ- ent kinds of spicy peppers that create dif- ferent levels of heat sensa- tions at the beginning, middle and end. Uniquely Korean is also tomato- based, but gets some sweetness from tamari, some umami from miso and a little bit of heat from both Bird's Eye chile and gochugaru (Korean red pepper). Red Duck www.redduckfoods.com Red Duck Launches New Line of Organic Taco Sauces There are days when you just need a snack to help power you through the af- ternoon, and then there are days when all you want to do is bite somebody's head off. Good Zebra has you cov- ered on both counts with Spirit Animal Crackers. These animal crackers are reminiscent of the childhood treat packaged in the circus box with the string handle, but they're really intended for adults, with 11 shapes inspired by tattoo art, clean fla- vors, organic honey sweetening and even 12 grams of protein per serving. "At Good Zebra, we're motivated by our desire to snack sweet without the guilt. So, with a pinch of vision and a dash of courage, we set out to do things our way," said Erika Szychowski, Good Zebra Founder and CEO. "We started with tradi- tional animal crackers and transformed this childhood staple into the world's first Spirit Ani- mal Crackers. We're risk- takers and rule-breakers, and we're out to flip the cookie industry on its little sugary head." Light and crisp with a sat- isfying crunch, Good Zebra's Spirit Animal Crackers contain over 70 percent organic ingredients and no artificial colors or fla- vors. These grab-and-go snacks are avail- able in a single-serving 1-ounce bag and a zip-top 2-ounce bag. Good Zebra Inc. www.goodzebra.com Good Zebra Spirit Animal Crackers Call Out the Wild Last year, Golden Cannoli released a new grocery line, The Original Cannoli Chips, aimed to disrupt the spe- cialty cookie category and bring more cannoli aware- ness to consumers. Since then, the three flavors – Powdered Sugar, Cinna- mon & Sugar and Cookies & Cream – have gained placement in retailers such as Wegmans and Whole Foods, and continue to gain distribution across the country. The Original Cannoli Chips are sold in 5.1-ounce bags, and the chips contain no artificial ingredients, no trans fats, no preservatives and are nut free. The prod- uct is being sold as a retail snack in super- markets, delis and in specialty depart- ments coast to coast. Golden Cannoli in- tends to launch a larger club pack, as well as a smaller con- venience pack, in early 2018, as well as seasonal flavors. Golden Cannoli 617.868.2826 www.originalcannolichips.com www.goldencannoli.com Cannoli Becomes a Snack Product Formaggio Brand Charcuterie Sticks & Dips are six sticks of fresh mozzarella wrapped in char- cuterie-style meats. These are accompanied by a dipping sauce specially paired for each meat option: Pro- sciutto/Balsamic Fig Dip, Soppressata/Balsamic Glaze, Genoa Salami/Whole Grain Mustard and finally Pepperoni/Ranch Dip. There is a two-stick version available as well, Charcuterie Snacks, which features the same pairings as their bigger brothers and have created quite a sensation in early focus groups due to their grab-and-go size, convenience and outside-the-box approach. E-Z open Multivac packag- ing has been adopted by For- maggio Brand for a number of product lines over the last cou- ple years and now snack lines will benefit from this as well. The packaging is absolutely transparent, so you can see how fresh the meats are wrapped around the white fresh mozzarella.
