Broadcasters Show Daily 4 1 Monday, April 24, 2017 time while massively upgrading your workflow. Computers that were not pow- erful enough for a VR headset are now potentially VR ready, and for those that like to play games, they can now play at much higher frame rates than before. With an MSRP of just $299, the Node finally makes the eGPU affordable! "The Node was designed primarily for fun and gaming, but it can also be used with a multitude of other PCIe cards to help improve the productivity of cre- ative professionals," said Richard Wright, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Akitio. "We believe in the future of VR here at Akitio, and we believe that the time has come for an affordable external graphics solution and we want to be a part of it." The Akitio Node was designed for use with Thunderbolt 3-equipped com- puters such as the Intel NUC. "Connecting the Node to our new Skull Canyon NUC has great possibilities for gaming, virtual reality and others who work with video files. The combination Akitio (Cont'd. from p. 1) of the NUC and the Node can greatly improve the user experience," said John Deatherage, Marketing Director of Intel. Akitio Node features include: Thunderbolt 3 for lightning fast transfer speeds up to 40 Gbps; 1 PCIe (x16) slot supporting full-length, full-height, dou- ble-width cards; spacious enclosure large enough even for water cooled graphics cards; 4 lane PCI Express 3.0 compliant interface; and built-in 400W SFX power supply. Akitio is an international company specializing in the design, development and manufacturing of premium, high- quality external computer storage prod- ucts and accessories with an emphasis on Thunderbolt technology. Akitio is a lead- ing Thunderbolt developer and currently has some of the fastest and highest capac- ity Thunderbolt products on the market. Akitio U.S. headquarters are located in Orange County, California. It all starts with Akitio! For more information, stop by booth #SL13417 or go to www.akitio.com. ST: It's really quite simple. You install a small app called Unity Server on a Mac computer, connect that computer to a net- work and create some users, then have your crew download the Unity Intercom app from their app store and log in. That's it! The real magic though is that the whole thing can work over the inter- net. Basically, anywhere in the world you have an internet connection, you're on comm. BSD: What are some of the features that make it ready for the broadcast industry? ST: Unity Intercom has six party lines and direct user-to-user communication, but we go way beyond that by incorpo- rating camera tally from your video mixer, audio I/O options so that you can tie Unity to your existing wired comm system, and dozens of program feeds so that you can send all of your IFB mix- minus feeds through Unity to your talent. Unity was used extensively for IFB dur- ing coverage of the Rio Olympics. BSD: You mentioned tying Unity to an existing comm system. Can you elabo- rate on that? ST: Sure. Let's say you have an existing comm system from one of the other com- panies. Using an audio I/O like DANTE, RVON or even plain analog from their system into ours allows your team to con- nect wirelessly, from anywhere, back to the main station or truck and show up on Unity Intercom (Cont'd. from p. 1) their key panels. LivePD is a show on A&E right now that is following some police officers from different cities around the country and sending their camera feeds back to the studio in NYC. The only way the studio can talk to the camera operators and field producers is through Unity Intercom. The camera ops and producers are on comm just like they would be if they were there in the studio, but they're able to use their own devices, their cell phones, and be literally thou- sands of miles away from the studio. BSD: Is this an easy way to make an existing comm system wireless? ST: Absolutely! We support up to 64 simultaneous users on a single Unity Server, so imagine being able to spread spotters around a golf course for your tel- evision coverage and not have to tie awful two-way radios into your comm system. The sound quality is even high enough that the LivePD show is using Unity Intercom audio live on the air. Every time you hear a field producer talk, that's Unity. BSD: Where can customers find more information? ST: Check out our site at www.unityin- tercom.com to download a free demo and stop by our booth to see it in action. LEMO USA began in 1967 in Northern California and has since devel- oped over 75,000 products used in appli- cations from satellites to medical emer- gency rooms. LEMO connectors are designed for long-lasting operation and maxi- mum interconnect stability in even the harshest environments. The LEMO 3K.93C SMPTE hybrid connector has a compact design with two single- mode fiber contacts, two power con- tacts and two signal contacts for HD camera interconnection systems. The LEMO 3K.93C is one of the only con- nectors that is fully AINSI/SMPTE (USA), ARIB (Japan) and EBU (Europe) compliant. LEMO and Northwire also provide 3K.93C SMPTE/HDTV cable and wire for a complete end-user solution. LEMO has also been providing connectors for the new emerging HD cinematography market. LEMO works closely with the OEM camera manufac- turers around the world and has a very strong reputation on the design and integration of the general purpose cam- era connectors for applications such as camera power, view finders, motor controls and many more camera acces- LEMO (Cont'd. from p. 1) sories. LEMO continues to connect with these customers to provide custom connections to meet specific require- ments. LEMO feels that making the customer connection is just as impor- tant as the connections for its cus- tomers' end products. This year at NAB, LEMO is demon- strating a wide variety of electrical and fiber optic connector solutions for in-stu- dio, outdoor harsh environments and audio visual connectors for microphones and headphones, fiber optic kits for cleaning and inspection of the fiber con- nection systems and the latest technolo- gy in media converters. New products this year at NAB are the new ANGLISSIMO™ Connector Series. This is a right angle plug that allows the customer to position the cable exit angle in one of eight possible posi- tions during assembly. The solution is ideal in designs where many cables need to be positioned in a precise way to man- age cable clutter. The product is current- ly available in three sizes: 0B, 1B and 2B series with electrical contacts ranging from two to 32. Stop by the LEMO booth during NAB and make a connection with LEMO! It allows the user to control the format, frame rate and grain levels for image sequences. Among all the obvious use cases, Cinnafilm also expects PixelStrings capabilities to be useful for camera con- tent normalization, pre-edit and for remastered conversions, to ensure the best-possible device and OTT playback experience. PixelStrings' features include: motion-compensated frame rate conver- sion, high-quality de-interlacing, tex- ture-aware scaling, degrain/regrain to any film look, denoise/retexture to limit banding, reverse telecine/pulldown pat- tern correction, interlace artifact and dust removal, and runtime retiming, all in a single pass using a robust, mezza- nine-grade transcoder. CineCert's IMF wrapping solution will be added to the backend as a secondary service.
