Everyone remembers rolling ingredients back and forth with f reezing hands, getting a diner milkshake or turning a hand crank in grandma's kitchen. Nostalgia's ice cream makers recreate those memories with updated technology for modern convenience. One of the new machines is the Gourmet Ice Creamer y, a retro blue, bucket-shaped machine capable of making up to 4 quarts of ice cream, f rozen yogurt or gelato. D ual- insulated walls keep ice and salt cold during the churning process, and the rock salt and ice chute makes adding more salt and ice during the process easy and less messy than other methods. The ingredient chute allows users to mix in nuts, candy pieces, cookie dough, f ruit, or other goodies to customize their creations. Because the motor is now on the bottom, users can easily add toppings at the end, too. The other new addition is the Coca- Cola® Electric Ice Cream Maker, is for the Coke collector and fan. It also makes up to 4 quarts of ice cream, but the vintage wrap-around graphics on the aluminum bucket and Coke bottle handle grip give the gadget a classic diner-style look. The easy-clean liner makes cleanup simple, and the see-through lid provides easy viewing and f reezer storage. "It's those memories like the carnival, the retro styles, bringing those back to now," said Lindsey Maki, Marketing Communications Specialist at Nostalgia. She also said these ice cream makers are to be shared with f riends and family; that some people get the machines for the memories, while others buy the machines for the style, or a theme in the kitchen. "These aren't items you use on your own. These are very much lifestyle pieces meant to be shared; it brings people together." Another model is the 4-Quart Double Flavor Ice Cream Maker, which provides a new and simplified way of making two flavors of homemade ice cream simultaneously. "We were very pleased to discover that the design of the unit allows users to make ice cream 30 percent faster than a standard 4-quart ice cream maker," said Rob Huston, Director of Product Development at Nostalgia. The brand offers 4-quart and 6- quart machines in their Retro and Vintage lineups, in 19th Century wood bucket styles and shiny retro red. The ice cream makers look classic, and the resulting ice cream tastes like it was hand-churned, but the experience won't leave users out of breath. "They're all based on the old hand crank, like our grandparents and parents used," Maki said. "What we did was, instead of wearing out your arm for 30 minutes turning by hand, it has a motor. But it's still the old-fashioned way. You can make your own mixes, use your own preservative- f ree ingredients." Nostalgia also sells rock salts and ice cream mixes for added convenience, but according to Maki, that's hardly the limit. She says the brand will be branching out into the Internet of Things, but "ETA is yet to be determined. That 's something we will have a greater presence in." KN
