They're designed to be cradled in the palm of the hand with the thumb slotted through the handle, so they're an option that works for those who'll be eating their phô or ramen soups while they're sitting on a park bench or their morning cereal while they're heading for their shuttle stop on the way to work. For your customers who like to start their mornings with a little whimsy, Brainstream offers singing egg timers. BeepEggs are shaped like eggs decorated as a variety of characters – including a pirate, a cowboy, a Mafioso figure and even Uncle Sam. They're designed to go into the pot of water along with the eggs. When the eggs are soft- boiled, they sing one tune. When they've gotten to a medium stage, the BeepEgg changes its tune, and when the egg is hard- cooked, there's yet another musical signal. For instance, the Western Beep Egg sings the theme f rom "The Magnificent Seven" for soft- boiled, "Oh, Susannah" for medium eggs, and "The Yellow Rose of Texas" when the egg is hard-cooked. The New York BeepEgg, which represents the Statue of Liberty, sings "Give My Regards to Broadway" for soft-boiled, "Forty-Five Minutes From Broadway" for medium and "Sidewalks of New York" for hard-cooked. The BeepEgg is the brainchild of German engineer Rupprecht Gabriel, who set out to invent a product that would save him from unpredictable breakfasts of eggs not cooked to his liking. The small, family business he built around his musical egg timer is based in Germany, with most of the components for the device sourced f rom suppliers local to the company's home base in Bielefeld. The company now has 20 employees and distributes its products internationally. The BeepEgg is battery operated and Food and Drug Administration-approved for use with food. They retail for $19.99 and are available for immediate shipment. For more information, email hendrik.wibbing@brainstream.de. Aervana is a 2014 red dot award-winning electric wine aerator that operates on six AAA batteries (included in box at purchase). With a push of a button, Aervana aerates and dispenses wines, with six times the aeration of a gravity aerator, helping the reduce sulfites and other undesirable compounds that affect the wine's taste. Aervana appeals particularly to Millennial customers, who tend to appreciate the novelty of the wine tab, and its aeration is so efficient that it 's been adopted by several northern California wineries that are using it in their tasting rooms to help customers appreciate their newer big red varietals, giving them a sense of what the wine will have to offer when it's been in the cellar for a couple of years longer. Aervana was launched into the market in 2015 by its Seattle-based maker, but sales and marketing teams weren't formed until 2016, so this is still a product in its infancy and distribution is concentrated on the West Coast, but it's being sold at retail in Sur Le Table, Sharper Image and a number of bottle shops in northern California, where it sells particularly well during the holiday season for these upscale specialty stores. Aervana retails for $99.95. For more information, call 610.866.6900 or visit www.aervana.com. Nostalgic Glass Works offers a range of drinkware in etched glass and ceramics. NewMetro Design's Angry-Mama, out on the market for about a year now, has been such a success that she's now being joined by Chilly-Mama, a holder for refrigerator baking soda. Chilly-Mama is purple and blue with cold because she sits in the ref rigerator. She's vented to allow the baking soda inside her to absorb odors, and a dial on top of her head indicates when it's time to change the baking soda. Angry- Mama is designed to clean the microwave. She's to be filled with water and vinegar and then heated in the microwave, where steam escapes through holes in the top of her head, loosening the baked-on food on the oven's interior so it 's easier to wipe away. Angry-Mama retails for about $10 and Chilly-Mama, which is available to ship now, retails for about $14. Angry-Mama's image is also available on silicone jar openers that retail for about $8 and on super-absorbent wipes for cleaning anything requiring non-abrasive cleaning and the Angry-Mama Spoon Rest, a 6-inch by 8-inch mat made from dishwasher and washing machine-safe cotton-cellulose fiber that works up to nine months with continuous use and retails for $3.95. The Angry-Mama reusable wipes are 6.75 inches by 8 inches and retail for $5.95. Also new from NewMetro Design is the MOBI line, which includes the Pop Pop measuring cups and spoons, which feature silicone cups that pop back and forth to create two different measurements for one cup. The double-ended spoon gives four measurements with one spoon. They're offered in white/red and in white/gray, and they're dishwasher safe and BPA free. The spoons retail for $7.45 and the measuring cups retail for $13.45. Also in the MOBI line are silicone egg molds in fun shapes. The heat resistant silicone mold goes into the skillet, and then the egg is broken into it, so that the yolks fall into the center of a flower or heart or into the eyes of a bear or frog. The silicone doesn't stick to the pan, and the egg doesn't stick to the silicone, so the result is a breakfast egg that adds a note of whimsy to help start the day off right. The egg molds are dishwasher safe and BPA free. They're brand new to the market and precise retail prices were not available at press time. The pot is heavy, the water scorching hot, the colander unstable. Plus, the colander takes up a lot of space in the cupboard. There's an easier way to strain hot food. The Kitchen Gizmo Snap 'n Strain Strainer is a compact strainer that clips right on the pan or pot. This patented, streamlined strainer creates a strainer "shield" for separating hot water and pan juices from food. Simply attach it to the side of a pan and tilt the pan to drain away the liquid. The food stays in place — no wrestling runaway pasta from the sink. The strainer is made of flexible, heat-resistant silicone and will fit most pots, pans and bowls. Plus, it attaches with two, strong easy-grip clips that keep the strainer firmly in place. www.kitchengizmousa.com support@kitchengizmousa.com 1.800.970.4158
