NATURALLY HEALTHY www.gourmetnews.com n MARCH 2017 n GOURMET NEWS N H 3 4 GloryBee Introduces Fermented Honey As a company that's been buzzing about all things bees for more than 40 years, it's hard to imagine anything from the hive that Glo- ryBee hasn't heard of. Yet while in Thailand, it was introduced to fermented honey. After just one taste of this refreshing low-acid vinegar, it was hooked. Dick Turanski, Founder of GloryBee, en- thusiastically recalls, "As soon as I tasted the fermented honey, I was amazed by its pro- found flavor. I knew right away this was a product we needed to share with our cus- tomers." Honey gets its flavor from whichever type of flower the bees visit to get nectar. In this case, the flavor comes from the longan, or "dragon's eye" – a sweet and succulent fruit native to southern Asia. The honey is harvested from the bees and after six months of natural fermentation in clay vats, the floral notes come through, creating the perfect culinary vinegar. GloryBee's Fermented Honey is easy to use. It can be brushed onto vegetables and meats, drizzled over salads or enjoyed as a mildly sweet marinade. It's also perfect for adding a unique burst of flavor to teas or served cold over ice. This exotic blend is believed to contain nourishing ben- efits from antioxidants and promote healthy digestion. GloryBee donates 1 percent of the re- tail sales of its fermented honey to its Save the Bee social initiative, which di- rectly supports organizations dedicated to saving honey bees. Visit GloryBee and try a free sample of Fermented Honey at booth #3660. For more information, go to www.glory bee.com. Hemp Production Services: "From Our Fields to Your Brand" Hempseed is one of the 10 superfoods, uniquely dense with digestible protein and essential fatty acids. Both as food ingredients and stand-alone products, the delicious, nutty nutrition of the hemp heart, along with omega-packed hempseed oil and nourishing hemp protein powder, are gaining in popu- larity every day. While the U.S. is just begin- ning to re-forge its path to hemp grain production, full-scale realization is still dis- tant. Fortunately, the folks in Canada have been supplying the global market for a full decade. Hemp Production Services (HPS) offers a complete supply chain and private label so- lution for sourcing top quality, competitively priced, organic and conventional bulk hemp food ingredients like hulled hempseed, cold- pressed hempseed oil and hemp powders (50 percent, 33 percent and 23 percent). Non- GMO and gluten-free, its customers range from protein smoothie and cereal companies to pet food and body care manufacturers. HPS processes hemp grain in facilities that adhere to the standards for food quality and safety as per the FFSC 22000, kosher, Certi- fied Organic and non-GMO protocols. HPS never competes with the brands it serves; it is a brand supplier, not a retail brand. HPS is a multi-generational, family farm- owned hempseed food production agribusi- ness with an ownership/management team possessing more than 75 years of cumulative expertise in industrial hemp breeding, hemp grain variety development and pedigreed seed replication, dryland and irrigated hemp grain production management and hemp bulk food ingredient processing. This expe- rience is realized in the out- standing quality, color, taste and value of the ingredients HPS supplies to its worldwide customers. Food quality starts in the field with the seed, and is ensured with sound agronomic advice and practices. HPS farmers use top quality pedigreed seed sourced from sister company Hemp Genetics International, and HPS works closely with hemp farmers across Western Canada to ensure their suc- cess in growing some of the world's highest quality and most productive hemp crops. HPS provides its farmers with a comprehen- sive hemp production support system based on regional agronomic considerations and customized to their farm operation. This ver- tically integrated relationship allows HPS to provide growing businesses with reliable, professionally managed, cost effective, su- perior quality bulk hemp food ingredients. In early 2017, due to significant increase in consumer demand worldwide for hemp foods, HPS opened a brand new state- of-the-art hempseed dehulling facility named Midlake South, which increases overall processing capacity to 80,000 pounds per day for hulled hempseed. The HPS Pledge: To conduct all business with honesty, integrity, transparency and fair- ness, with a view that all supply chain stake- holders, including growers, customers, processors and distributors, are integral part- ners in mutual long-term success. Customers can trust that HPS products will add value to their brands, knowing that the quality is su- perior, the pricing is competitive and that HPS will never compete with their brand on the retail shelf. Taste the Marukan Difference Marukan Vinegar will open a second brew- ery in the United States to better service its customers. Marukan Vinegar has more then 360 years of experience making vinegar by slow-brewing sake from rice. The company's smooth-tasting, premium rice vinegar is used in a variety of culinary dishes that comple- ment and bring out the flavors of food. "Our parent company started in Japan in 1649 and was the first commercial seller of vinegar made from rice wine or sake," Pres- ident Jon Tanklage says. "The Japanese call this vinegar 'Su.' Su allowed raw foods to be transported inland from the sea. The vinegar would be sprinkled on the rice and became a preservative for fish; that was the primitive version of sushi. Marukan is a primary com- pany that made sushi possible." Marukan Vinegar has been producing its products in Japan for 367 years and in Paramount, California, for the past 42 years. The company is currently in con- struction of its new 77,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art brewery in Griffin, Geor- gia, that will open in July 2017. The Georgia brewery will help the company meet the growing demand for Marukan Rice Vinegar and better serve its East Coast customers. "It sits on 16 acres, so there is a lot of room for expansion if we de- cide to get more versatile and go into different product lines," Tanklage adds. When Marukan Vinegar came to Califor- nia four decades ago, it served the growing sushi market. Today, rice vinegar has be- come more mainstream and is used in salad dressings, sauces and marinades, as well as for pickling. "The farm-to-table movement along with the demand for non- GMO and organic products is helping the high-quality, milder vinegars like Marukan grow," Tanklage says. "A premium vine- gar, like ours, has a balance of flavor and brings out the flavor in food." For more information, go to www.marukan- usa.com, call 562.630.6060 or email sales@marukan-usa.com.
