GOURMET NEWS FEBRUARY 2017 www.gourmetnews.com FROM THE EDITOR 2 As we go to press with the February issues of Gourmet News and Kitchenware News, the editorial, advertising and business staffs of the magazines are preparing for trade show season. For us, this year that will mean that we'll be coming together with others in the in- dustries with which we work and trying to knit ourselves back together again in a world without Lee Oser in it. We do this at a time when all of us Americans have made clear to each other that our whole society is riven with deep disagree- ments and even some existential despair, and we are confused and distressed about that as well. What those of us who are deeply in- volved with food in one way or another do know, though, is that our food can be the thread that begins to bind us back together. We begin by gathering – in San Francisco for the Winter Fancy Food Show, in Chicago for the International Home + Housewares Show and in Anaheim for Nat- ural Products Expo West. In all of these places, we'll be talking about food and the means of preparing it and serving it, and in this way, we'll begin having the conversa- tions – and the meals – that will fuel the en- gine of our community, and we'll start figuring out how we're going to go on from here. Thank you so much to all of our friends who have expressed condolences over the loss of our founder, Lee Oser. We do miss him greatly, but we are look- ing forward to being with you again to renew our friendships in the worlds he loved.
