GOURMET NEWS JANUARY 2017 www.gourmetnews.com FROM THE EDITOR 4 Here at Gourmet News, our hearts are bro- ken by the death of our publisher Lee M. Oser, who loved this magazine and loved the community it serves. Going to the Fancy Food Shows to meet with friends, taste their new products, share the stories of his own adventures with food and, of course, sell some advertising in Gourmet News was one of the joys of his past few years, and he made it a pleasure to share that joy with him. Lee Oser was an ardent supporter of the many small business people who are part of this community, and I always received his wholehearted support in writing about foodcrafters who might never have the fi- nancial resources to pay for advertising in Gourmet News. It is one of the joys of this business that we have the opportunity to help those businesses grow by directing our readers' attention to people and products they might otherwise not know, and Lee Oser understood the value of that right down to his core. He was, after all, once a young publisher who didn't always have the financial resources to make a splash in his business himself, and he never forgot those days and the gumption it takes to swim with the sharks while you're still small fry. He truly enjoyed sitting in the Gour- met News booth at the Fancy Food Show – the photo you'll see on page 23 of this magazine was taken at the last Summer Fancy Food Show – and being visited by folks who came by to drop off samples or business cards, to fill out subscription cards for the magazine or just to say how much they enjoy reading. I feel blessed that in 2008, he had the foresight to know that Gourmet News was a pur- chase worth making and that he has con- tinually supported me in my efforts to make sure that it's a magazine that's worth your time as well as our loyal ad- vertisers' support. We here at Gourmet News will all miss him greatly. Thank you so much to all of you who have expressed your condolences over our loss. It means a great deal to us as we look forward to having the honor of being with all of you again at the Winter Fancy Food Show. Do stop by and visit us in booth #4005.
