Consumer Electronics Daily News 5 7 Sunday, January 8, 2017 2008, and continue to do so every year by innovating on technology and features that actually matter to drivers that want to capture great video while driving. CEDN: How has DOD been innovating the dash camera space? AW: We've always put a focus on tech- nology. But not just on any technology. We focus on the kind that matters in our industry. As a dash camera manufacturer, it is important that we only partner with the right organizations to ensure that drivers who use our products are able to get superior video quality both day and night. This is why we partner with SONY and have them provide us with their Exmor sensor. Unlike our competition, our focus continues to be video quality. After all, we are a dash camera company. CEDN: What does DOD Tech do differ- ent when it comes to video quality? AW: All of our dash cameras are made with the driver in mind. We know that the main purpose of a dash camera is to capture and record all events while driv- ing. Because of this, it's important for us DOD Tech (Cont'd. from p. 1) to provide users with exceptional video quality, especially at night. We do this by using larger lens apertures than the com- petition, glass lens instead of plastic, 150-degree wide angle lens to capture more of the drive ahead, larger image processors, faster chipsets, wide dynam- ic range technology known as WDR and of course a higher ISO number, current at 12800 – the highest in any dash cam- era. What all of these specs mean is one simple thing: if you use a DOD dash camera, you will capture things like license plates, vehicle make, vehicle color and street signs clearly, both day and night. CEDN: What is the focus for DOD Tech at CES 2017? AW: Our focus this year is a new tech- nology that we are calling "Ultra Night Vision," which gives the ability to see in absolute darkness. I mean no light. Think of a scenario like driving on a desert high- way at night or a rural street outside of a city. We are now providing consumers with a dash camera that can record these things without the assistance of street lighting or city driving environments. Whole-home distri- bution of high-definition content is becoming increasingly important, so a smart hub definitely adds value. CEDN: You're on the road all the time; how does technology help you stay con- nected to your home? PB: We can monitor and control all the technology in our Vegas home with our iPhones – security cameras, lights, fire- places, air conditioner, retractable outdoor movie screen, even water temperature and the color of the lights in the pool. We have a lot of fun with the app when we have houseguests while shooting in another city. CEDN: What do you believe is the next big thing in home entertainment technology? PB: We love tech that uses biometric readings to customize your home setting preferences, from light levels, tempera- ture, music genre and volume, so your house is perfect when you finally get home after a long day. CEDN: What do you see as the hottest smart home trends homeowners want in their home? PB: Thermostats, electrical outlets and keyless smart locks you can control with your smartphone are easy additions to any home, but the single app whole- home control systems are game-chang- ers. You can even have your home send you an approval request for a TV show your child wants to watch. CEDN: How is technology changing the way you approach your business of home remodeling? PB: Home tech used to be an after- Property Brothers (Cont'd. from p. 1) thought, icing on the cake. Now, it's readily available and affordable, so it's an essential part of the process, even with a tight budget. Something simple such as adding touchscreen thermostats and kitchen appliances or energy-effi- cient fixtures now gets you ahead of the curve. We can help homeowners simpli- fy their lives and reduce their carbon footprint while increasing the value of their home. CEDN: What's a clever use of smart home technology you've put into a client's home? PB: For one client, we found a product that allowed them to dispense dog bis- cuits remotely for their puppy via their smartphone. Their dog eventually knew if it sat in front of this camera long enough, a treat would come flying out! CEDN: What piece of smart home technol- ogy is on your wish list for your own home? PB: The smart refrigerators are growing on us – at first we thought they were a lit- tle over the top, but being able to peek into the fridge while grocery shopping would definitely come in handy. Also, smart faucets are intriguing. They're more hygienic and help homeowners save water. CEDN: With CES right in your back- yard, what do you most look forward to at the show? PB: We love CES – we're like kids in a candy store. There are so many clever innovations and new devices that take home tech to the next level, beyond what most homeowners could imagine – it's like strolling through a Jetsons episode!
