Aftermarket Daily News Thursday, November 3, 2016 6 6 PREMIER PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS TO SPONSOR FIRST ANNUAL DIESEL PERFORMANCE INDUSTRY EXPO Premier Performance Products has been named the title sponsor of the first annu- al Diesel Performance Industry Expo tak- ing place April 21-23, 2017 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana. "The DPI Expo is about to have its maiden voyage and we're confident that Premier Performance Products, being the original WD in the diesel performance market, has the experience to help make it a smashing success," said President of DPI Expo, James Brendle. "This event will be the first of its kind and will become a staple for the diesel industry." The Diesel Performance Industry Expo (DPI) was just recently founded in 2016 and is geared towards bringing industry professionals together for the benefit of the industry. Coupled with the Ultimate Callout Challenge, the DPI Expo is expected to bring in an estimated 8,000 people. "Indiana is the heartland of diesel performance and it's our goal to continue to create excitement at both the end con- sumer level as well as the business owner level," said Chris Searle, Sales Manager of DPI Expo. "The Ultimate Callout Challenge will provide the competition and entertain- ment for the top diesel trucks in North America, bringing in consumers and dealers alike to spectate and compete." While end consumers can come enjoy the aspects of the competition and learn more about the sponsoring vendors that will be present, Premier's dealers will be able to come take advantage of once a year deals as part of their April Open House. "We're excited about the opportunity to head up this event with DPI Expo. We've been in diesel performance since its begin- ning and feel confident that this event is just what the doctor ordered to rejuvenate the diesel performance market," said Matthew Davis, Director of Marketing for Premier. "We're hoping to have close to 50 vendors exhibiting at the expo, which should help make for a great event." The Ultimate Callout Challenge was started in 2016 and pitted close to 30 of the highest horsepower diesel trucks in North America against each other in a competition that included sled pulls, dynos and drag racing. The large turnout of diesel shop owners and spectators alike resulted in the creation of the DPI Expo. Performance enthusiasts are some of the most passionate people about their cho- sen hobby. Hours are spent toiling in the garage on a project vehicle, and thou- sands of dollars are spent to make an engine not only look its best, but also perform at its best. When you think about the amount of time and money dedicated to building your dream vehicle, does it make sense to use components that are made to unknown standards, especially if they cost more? Of course not! So, you might ask, how can you tell the differ- ence between a high-quality product and one that is made simply as a private-label money grab? Quality is assumed when you buy from the OEM, but what about the after- market replacement or "upgrade" parts for your engine? Many knock-off vehicle products can look virtually identical to their superior counterparts, and nobody can judge them by looks alone. Rick Hobbs, Head of Specialty Auto Parts U.S.A., Inc.'s Product Development for the Proform ® brand, lists some things to look for before purchasing parts for your project. "It is important to make sure the products are actually tested before they ever go into your car. For instance, with Proform's rotating electrical line, we test critical subcomponents before they even get to the pro- duction line. This is the only way to make sure that any problems are solved before we ever assem- ble the product." He goes on to say, "With a product such as the small-block starter, we use specialized machines in the manufactur- ing process, employed by highly trained personnel using dedicated jigs and test equipment to make certain the compo- nents are made to spec. Finally, each starter is assembled by hand, in combina- tion with specialized tools." To make sure that your performance parts are the quality you think you paid for, follow Rick's tips: Make sure the company has a tech- nical help line in case you run into prob- lems installing the part; in most cases, a quality product will be backed by quality support. Look online to see if you can find anything from the manufac- turer showing you exactly how the product is made. Quality man- ufacturers have nothing to hide. See who else uses the product. If you see the product written about favorably in a muscle car magazine, it's probably pretty good. Ask about the return policy. If the part is made to high standards, the manu- facturer has no issue with a fair return policy in the event of a malfunction because there are so few returns. Lastly, don't fall into the trap of buying no-brand product when a proven brand like Proform and others may cost a little more. For more information, stop by booth #23667.
