As a re- sult, the average American consumes an in- adequate amount of EPA and DHA. Those who follow a vegetarian diet have even lower levels of EPA and DHA because veg- etables don't contain them, so vegetarians must rely on their bodies' limited ability to convert alpha linolenic acid (ALA) into EPA and DHA. NH: Why are fish oils preferable to flax? CA: While flax and soybeans are a wonder- ful source of ALA, the conversion efficiency of ALA to EPA and DHA is very low. Those who take fish oils bypass the need for extra conversion and experience immediate bene- fits. NH: Why is it important to take an omega-3 supplement? CA: Although our bodies have the ability to convert ALA to EPA and DHA, the effi- ciency of this conversion is very low, so we often don't get the amount of omega-3s our bodies need for optimal function. For this reason, omega-3s are recognized as "essen- tial fats" because we must get them through our diets. However, the average person does- n't get enough omega-3s through diet alone. NH: What is the recommended intake of omega-3s? CA: According to the American Heart Asso- ciation, we should consume at least two serv- ings of fish per week for cardio-protective effects. Two 3.5-ounce servings of salmon contain approximately 500mg each of EPA and DHA. Omega-3s are also naturally found in fish like halibut, sardines and an- chovies. Since most Americans don't eat the suggested amount, a fish oil supplement can be a great option. Two of my favorite prod- ucts are Carlson The Very Finest Fish Oil and Cod Liver Oil, and both are wonderful added to food. Visit www.carlsonlabs.com and click "library" to view the Carlson Omega-3 Recipe Book. NH: Tell our readers more about Carlson Laboratories. CA: At Carlson Laboratories, we closely manage our omega-3 fish oil from sea to shelf. We source the highest quality, deep, cold- water fish using traditional, sustainable meth- ods. Our fish are then transported to a highly-regulated Norwegian plant for purifi- cation. All of our liquid fish oils are bottled with a touch of natural vitamin E and all ex- cess air is removed to prevent oxidation and ensure long-lasting freshness. They're then shipped to us and tested by an FDA-registered laboratory for freshness, potency and purity. Carlson omega-3 liquid fish oils have all won Superior Taste Awards from the renowned chefs and sommeliers of the Inter- national Taste & Quality Institute. They're five-star rated by the International Fish Oil Standards (IFOS) program, the only third- party testing and certification program exclu- sively for fish oil supplements. Carlson omega-3 fish oils have also received Friend of the Sea certification, a non-profit organi- zation committed to marine habitat conser- vation. Carlson omega-3 fish oils are available in liquid and soft gel form. For more information, go to www.carlson labs.com or stop by booth #5208. Carlson Laboratories (Cont'd. from p. 1) savory and roasted vegetables to create one of the best tasting whole food veggie burg- ers available today. NoBull Burger originated when Chef and Caterer Crissanne Raymond created the Original NoBull Burger recipe over 30 years ago when wanting a healthy and fabulous tasting veggie burger option for her and her family. At the time, there were absolutely no plant-based veggie burgers that Crissanne felt like she didn't have to compromise on either taste or ingredient quality that she felt comfortable feeding her family. Crissanne took matters into her own hands and with her gifted cooking talents, she created what is now the Original NoBull Burger recipe. NoBull Burger became a big hit among fam- ily, friends and clients over the years. Many would rave about the veggie burgers, which compelled Crissanne with the help of her two daughters, Heather and Elizabeth, to set up shop in Charlottesville, Virginia where Oh My Gosh…Yum, home of the revolutionary NoBull Burger, was born. It is its hope and mission to feed the world healthier natural food without compromising flavor or nutri- tion, one veggie burger at a time. The plant-based food industry is rapidly growing. NoBull Burger, the gourmet veggie burger, is a new emerging brand leading the next generation in handcrafted, whole, plant- based food. Its products fulfill consumers' desires for quality, all natural ingredients without compromising on taste or flavor. There is a lack of quality plant-based prod- ucts out in the market today. NoBull Burger is the real deal, the complete package: all natural, organic, plant-based ingredients hand crafted in small batches and packed into a quarter-pound, nutrient filled veggie- burgers that simply taste amazing. Unlike most of the competition, with NoBull Burger, you don't have to question the ingre- dients and quality and you most certainly will not have to compromise on flavor. Not meant to be a meat-imitator, NoBull Burger contains only real food ingredients like lentils (the base in all four flavors), barley, chia, spinach, brown rice, etc. leading to an exceptional and impressive nutritional label, recommended by registered dietitians and doctors. NoBull Burger is truly a gourmet veggie burger. With a line of four veggie burger flavors – Original, Mama Mia Spicy Italian, Savory Mushroom & Roasted Garlic and Sun-dried Tomato & Spinach and many new flavors to come, like NoBull Crumble, NoBull Breakfast Sausage, etc., NoBull Burger has the vegetarian, vegan, gluten- free, meat and potato lover-foodie covered! Today's consumer is demanding cleaner la- bels and healthier food. NoBull Burger is leading the competition in all of these areas.
