KN Educational Opportunities in Atlanta This July The Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, scheduled for July 12- 19 at AmericasMart in Atlanta, Georgia, has an exciting lineup of events planned for this year. They include a wealth of information on decorating trends, marketing and branding, and a presentation by celebrity chef Fabio Viviani on "Real Food, Made Simply, at Home." Viviani's presentation will be held at noon on July 15 in the demonstration kitchen on Floor 8 of Building 2. He'll be sharing some of his favorite Italian-inflected recipes that most home cooks would never attempt. In case you missed his presentation this year at the International Home + Housewares Show, you have another chance to soak up some of the wisdom of Tom Mirabile, Senior Vice President of Global Trend and Design for Lifetime Brands, who will be talking about "Top Gift and Home Trends 2016: The New Rules of Engagement" at 2 p.m. on July 15 in the designer workspace on Forr 15 of Building 1. Retailers must know their audience, Mirabile said during his presentation on "Rules of Engagement" at the housewares show. In the past, people aged 36 to 54 drove most purchases, but now, people who are both younger and older than that age bracket dominate the economy. We're now seeing that even children have become influential consumers, and many in the age group between 7 and 20 are active participants in the retail economy and often consider themselves to be foodies, and that recognition SIAL Canada International Food Show Reaches Record Attendance SIAL Canada, held April 13 through 15 at Montreal's Palais des Congrès, had a record number of visitors this year, drawing 17,300 food industr y professionals f rom more than 60 countries. It was an opportunity to hand out a number of prizes, including the SIAL Innovation's grand prize. W ith "Food-Ser vice Costing and Increasing Profitability " as a topic, the first edition of SIAL Food Hub was a success: 50-odd food-ser vice professionals gathered to discuss a major issue of the day. Over several hours, 11 guest experts put together a variety of recommendations which, in a few weeks, will be published as a white paper and made available to participants. The OLIVE D'OR extra-virgin olive oil contest attracted more than 100 participating oils f rom 15 countries. KN should be reflected in how you interact with them when they're in your store. About half the kids who learn to cook as children will grow up to cook five meals a week when they're adults. Among today's teens, more than half says they have recently cooked a meal from scratch, and 80 percent of them say that cooking skills are either something they already have or want to learn. Two thirds of them say that cooking is a big part of who they are, and more than half say that the kitchen is the center of their home life. Tech expert and HGTV host Carley Knobloch will be presenting "Create, Manage, Thrive: Apps that Help You Crush it in Your Creative Business" at 2 p.m. on July 14 in the designer workspace on Floor 15 of Building 1.
