H a r d w a r e & H o u s e w a r e s R e v i e w T h u r s d a y, M a y 5 , 2 0 1 6 4 PARALLEL INNOVATION: HOW BIOLITE IS BRINGING ENERGY EVERYWHERE What if you could cook a meal with just a handful of sticks? That would be impressive. What if you could do that and generate electricity to charge devices? That would be game changing. That's what BioLite Co-Founders Jonathan Cedar and Alec Drummond set out to accomplish back in 2006. Originally a nights and weekend proj- ect, the team sought out a way to replace gas canisters on their camping trips and return to the art of cooking over wood, but in a highly efficient way. Fast forward to 2012 with the launch of the BioLite CampStove, a portable wood-burning camping stove that generates electricity from the heat of its fire. The flagship product has gone on to receive numerous awards from the outdoor recreation and design industries. It gets better — not only did their core thermoelectric technology change the outdoor and grilling category, but that same technolo- gy has been put to use in emerg- ing markets with an oppor- tunity for dra- matic impact. Nearly half the planet still cooks on smoky open fires, leading to more than four million premature deaths annually. Often those same families lack reliable access to electricity, and use large por- tions of their incomes to light their homes and charge mobile phones. With the introduction of the BioLite HomeStove, PIT BOSS GRILLS – PB700FB WOOD PELLET SMOKER In 2015, Pit Boss was the fastest growing brand in wood pellet grills, offering a range of grills that are the biggest, heavi- est and hottest in their respective price points. Continuing this growth into 2016, Pit Boss introduces the 700 Series pellet grills to the line-up as well as the expand- ed roll out of the Pit Boss Flame Broiler. The staple of the new 700 Series is the 700FB. With a cooking surface total- ing 700 square inches – 500 square inch- es main level and 200 square inches removable upper cooking rack – the 700FB offers the best value per square inch in the pellet grill industry. It's not just the size; this 8-in-1 grill has the cook- ing versatility to grill, smoke, bake, roast, sear, braise and char-grill, as well as tra- ditional style BBQ, all controlled by the digital control board. Digital controls allow automatic ignition and 10 tempera- ture pre-sets to be selected at the turn of a dial. When roasting from 180 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit, fan assisted convec- tion cooking seals in juices and eliminates the need for a rotisserie. Cooking options are extended further by the Pit Boss Flame Broiler; when closed, its hot sur- face catches evaporated juices to create a moist cooking environment, and when open, the intense pellet flame is exposed, allowing you to char and sear. The 700FB's large hop- per holds up to 21 pounds of pellet fuel, allowing for up to 16 hours of burn time. Pit Boss offers a range of all natural BBQ pellet blends that suit individual tastes and cooking styles. The 700 Series continues Pit Boss' tradition of heavy-duty construction: 16- gauge steel, high temperature powered coat finish and a bottom shelf offer com- plete structural strength and durability; porcelain coated cast-iron main cooking grids and a porcelain coated steel upper rack result in quality cooking surfaces. Pit Boss Grills are grills that are built to last. For more information, visit booth #11437. C o ntinued o n P age 4 1 AN INDEPENDENT PUBLICATION NOT AFFILIATED WITH NHS Lee M.
