The industry needed to mon- itor the live video streams 24/7, to proactively detect and prevent issues before they had a significant impact on the viewing audience. IneoQuest collab- orated with industry leaders to form the standards for measuring IP video quality at defined points in the operator's net- work, and designed patented solutions to measure the right metrics at these dif- ferent points, from headend to network to endpoint. The "video service assur- ance" market was born to support a "broadcast quality" viewing experience over single-operator "managed" IPTV networks. Fast forward to today's Over the Top (OTT) video streaming industry, which relies on a complex ecosystem of service providers and disparate net- works, interconnected by "clouds" and the internet. When things are working well, this "unmanaged," incredibly complex distribution system delivers video in multiple formats to a huge and growing list of playback devices, and when things are not working well, view- ers may not tell you. They may just go elsewhere and use social media to let everyone know about their poor experi- ence, multiplying the damage to your video business. "Broadcast quality" for all of today's viewing scenarios remains elu- sive, and will remain so until the key stakeholders in the video business know IneoQuest (Cont'd. from p. 1) whether the playback experience is meeting minimum performance bench- marks; and if not, why not? Where are the problems and how can they be fixed? How is the Content Delivery Network (CDN) performing? Is the content being encoded at optimal bitrates to minimize delivery and storage costs while keeping viewers engaged? IneoQuest is driven to provide tools that can be focused on answering these questions, whether for video quality and technical diagnosis, or viewer consump- tion behavior. We can correlate playback quality data with the viewership response data needed for true insight. Video driven businesses need the intelligence that IneoQuest can provide. As a result, we have launched the IneoQuest FoQus™ Platform. This suite of intelligence gathering and processing solutions, offered in licensable/virtualiz- able software or appliance forms, col- lects real-time data from specific parts of the video distribution ecosystem, turning video quality and viewer behavior data into actionable intelligence that video businesses need to help them succeed in this increasingly competitive video mar- ket. It also establishes a solid foundation for our SaaS-based offerings. I encourage readers to drop by our NAB booth #SU6102 to learn how we can help them bring their video business into focus. For more information, stop by booth #SU6102. features: SFN Drift Monitoring – AVQ1020 detects and measures transmit- ted signal time alignment and its varia- tions relative to GPS reference time pulse; and In-Band Interference Monitoring – the new processing engine is able to distinguish between the useful signal and underlying noise, under-carri- er "ghost" signal or non-linearity prod- ucts. The in-band interference is dis- played on a spectrum plot for quick visu- al identification. AVQ1020 – ActiveCore RF Layer Monitoring Receiver and Signal Analyzer supports all major digital broadcasting standards, including ATSC, Avateq (Cont'd. from p. 4) DVB-T/T2, DAB/DAB+, DVB-S/S2, ISDB-T/Tb and DTMB. The analyzer allows an operator to monitor remote transmitting sites through a web interface or as a part of SNMP-based network management system. AVQ1020 features an easy-to-use customizable alarm sys- tem with user-defined thresholds and assigned severity levels. The internal log- ging server records events and measured parameters history for archiving and future analysis. Visit Avateq's booths #SU8710 or #SU15813 during the show to learn more about AVQ1020 and other products. Rather than hiring out for all of your pyrotechnic work, studios now have the ability to do this work them- selves, saving time and money. With their ability to fire up to 1,000 times each before requiring replacement, eSquibs are ideal for instant retakes. No more clearing the set, rewiring and wasting time. Just set up the eSquib system, place the eSquibs where you would like and fire, stop and re-fire the same devices however many times necessary. DSSP is also introducing a new, DMX-compatible controller for eSquibs. DSSP (Cont'd. from p. 4) The tiny size of eSquibs and their intrinsic safety allow them access to a myriad of applications. eSquibs can be imbedded in fixed displays, costumes, customized musical instruments, props and virtually any other object. Firing sys- tems range from single-channel, battery- powered units to larger, plug-in units with easy scaleability. No matter the size or location of your project, eSquibs have you covered. Check out live demonstrations of the game-changing eSquib at booth #C12445 every 30 minutes during show hours. For more information, visit www.dssptech.com or stop by booth #C12445. BSD: Are you releasing any new prod- ucts? JS: Yes, we are releasing our new LiveCast Encoder, High-Definition Demodulator Module (HDDM) and FlexCoder. The LiveCast is a content acquisition encoder that ingests live broadcast-quali- ty content for IP transport over the inter- net. It locally encodes an SDI live source to transport your content over the public internet to a cloud-based video media, or service provider for future processing into a multi-screen workflow. Next, the HDDM is ideal for broad- cast and professional video applications, where the demand is to decode a high quality live video signal from an array of input sources. It is a low-cost profession- al solution that can decode an IP trans- port stream, off-air digital 8VSB channel or a program from a clear QAM source. You can also pair the LiveCast and HDDM for an ultimate application solu- tion. Third, the FlexCoder is a versatile solution that combines edge QAM, off- air and IP grooming technology into one integrated package. By using the FlexCoder, operators can convert IP video streams into QAM or ASI in addi- tion to transcoding 8VSB (digital off-air) to clear QAM, ASI or IP signals. By pro- viding such a wide-range of functionality in a compact solution, the FlexCoder brings remarkable cost savings to opera- tors. BSD: What do you anticipate to be your Blonder Tongue Laboratories (Cont'd. from p. 1) greatest challenge in the year ahead? JS: The challenge is to constantly trans- form our company to stay with the mar- ket and technology changes. With new resolutions like 4K and 8K come the dis- tribution challenges for the consumer. This new technology hogs bandwidth and requires full attention from our R&D team when engineering new products to make it easy for our customers' deploy- ments, but we are more than ready for it. BSD: What products do you see as being hottest this year? JS: This year I think the hottest are UHD products, and the innovative ways of delivering that high-quality content. For example, we have had a lot of interest in our 4K Modulator. It allows end-users to transmit UHD video clips over coaxial cable using traditional hardware. It is an excellent way to advertise UHD in com- mercial facilities, such as retail chains, stadiums, arenas and airports. Since the solution works on an existing network, it is very cost-effective and easy to deploy. BSD: How can our readers find out more about your company? JS: There are several ways to find out more about Blonder Tongue and our products. Watch our videos on YouTube, follow us on Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook or simply go to our website at www.blondertongue.com. Learn more at www.blondertongue.com or stop by booth #SU6605. Utilizing Thunderbolt3, the Thunder3 Duo Pro can deliver transfer speeds up to 770 MB/s while simultane- ously providing two 4K video streams to connected displays, roughly 8x faster than USB 3.1 Gen 1 and 4x faster than USB 3.1 Gen 2. Thunder3 Duo Pro is ideal for consumers and professionals who desire high capacity external storage with advanced RAID support and robust data protection. Several PC makers have already released Thunderbolt3 laptops in 2016 and the Thunder3 Duo Pro is an awe- some, if not necessary accessory due to the fact that many of these PCs ship with very small internal drives. "We're thrilled to see such strong PC adoption for Thunderbolt 3," said Jason Ziller, Intel's Director of Thunderbolt Marketing. "With unmatched transfer speeds, support for multiple 4K displays, notebook charging and compatibility with existing I/O technologies, Thunderbolt 3 is setting a new bar for the industry." Thunder3 Duo Pro is offered as a 2- bay RAID enclosure supporting four RAID modes (RAID 0 striping, RAID 1 mirroring, SPAN and Non-RAID). Thunder3 Duo Pro features two Thunderbolt3 ports, a USB 3.1 Gen 1 AKITIO (Cont'd. from p. 1) (Type-B) port and a DisplayPort video output to connect the latest 4K 60HZ dis- plays. The second Thunderbolt3 port on the Thunder3 Duo Pro operates the same as a Thunderbolt3 computer port by sup- porting Thunderbolt3 (up to five daisy chained), USB 3.1 (10Gb/s) and DisplayPort devices. For added convenience, The Duo Pro can accommodate 2.5-inch SSDs/hard drives and/or 3.5-inch hard drives. The Thunder3 Duo Pro is com- pletely "tool-less," so drives can be easi- ly installed or uninstalled. It can also run fanless (zero decibels) when needed, making it the perfect choice for home and professional audio recording when SSDs are installed. Thunder3 Duo Pro gives Sony Vegas and Adobe Premier users the ability to edit and playback multiple streams of HD and/or 4K content with enough headroom to daisy chain multiple 4K displays simultaneously. Thunder3 Duo Pro also provides massive storage space for other popular applications such as Lightworks, Corel VideoStudio, Pinnacle Studio, Cakewalk, Cubase and ProTools. Connect multiple Thunder3 Duo Pro enclosures together for even more storage capacity. For more information, go to www.akitio.com or stop by booth #SL15213.
