In line with this trend, Whitford offers its 2016 color brochure, Vintage Kitchen. This guide, published annually, shows you the colors the company has developed for 2016. This eight-page color brochure from Whitford shows you the 12 hottest new colors for the coming year in three differ- ent coating systems: conventional PTFE nonstick (Xylan ® Plus), sol-gel "ceram- ic" nonstick (Fusion ® ) and high-gloss exteriors (Xylac ® ). The free brochure also includes the 12 hottest color combi- nations in the popular "spatter-style" coatings, plus Whitford's leading colors for previous years (2015 and 2014). There are three different coating sys- tems with the same color, yet each looks a little different. Why? There are many rea- sons. Many things affect color. How the substrate is prepared, the ingredients in the coating formula, the thickness of the coat- ing itself, the air circulation in the oven as the coating is cured, the temperature of the oven, the length of the cure – all affect the final color. (All can also affect the per- formance of the coating.) The light in which a color is viewed can alter its appearance, and even the paper a color is printed on affects it. First, answer this ques- tion when formulating a coating: must the coating comply with food-contact regulations (such as FDA or EU)? There is a limited number (and limited types) of pigments that satisfy food-contact reg- ulations, so the options for interior coat- ings are somewhat limited. To further complicate matters, different color pig- ments tend to have different tolerances for cure temperatures. Many resins used as binders in coat- ings are relatively dark, and they darken the higher the temperature and the longer they remain in the curing oven. Some resins are clear and don't affect color. Why use the darker resins? Because the resin selected drives the most important performance characteristics of a coating, which are usu- ally more important than the color. Careful attention to the processing of coatings is important in maintaining a consistent color. Remember: lighter col- ors are far more easily affected than dark- er colors. In addition, lighter colors (pastels) and yellows have far less hid- ing power than darker tones. As color choices are made, it's important to know that some will have better wear resistance than others, so it's important to make sure you choose carefully. The good news is that Whitford can help. Its global team of experts is here to help you with all your coating needs. Whitford is the manufacturer of the largest, most complete line of nonstick coatings in the world, with offices and agents in all major markets. PERFECT BLEND: TECH'S ANSWER TO HEALTHIER LIVING A week into the new year, 23 percent of people who have made resolutions have already gone off course. After six months, that number drops to about 60 percent, according to a University of Pennsylvania study. For those whose resolutions include living a healthier lifestyle, blended drinks and meals often play a significant role, and robust blender sales are proof of that. Unfortunately, changing behavior is hard and the results often disappoint, leaving the blender to become another unused gadget on the kitchen counter. There are a number of legitimate reasons for blender neglect. Primarily, it's difficult to replicate the same smooth- ie taste and consistency each time because measuring ingredients is a chal- lenge. A cup of ice or strawberries can hold vastly different amounts depending on the shape, size or cut. Measuring ingredients by weight is the only way to ensure that the intended amount of an ingredient is blended each time. This is the secret to a delicious smoothie. Smoothie-loving consumers with nutrition goals need a better solution to keep the dust from collecting on their blender and fulfill their New Year's reso- lutions. Perfect Company believes they have the answer in Perfect Blend ® Smart Scale and Interactive Recipe App. "Some of the hardest things for peo- ple to do is find recipes that align with their nutrition goals, track their calories and health goals, plan their meals, and manage shopping and food inventory," says Mike Wallace, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Perfect Company. tion of blend to get the taste and consistency perfect each time. Once you're ready to enjoy your smoothie, soup or dip, tracking nutritional content like calories, fat and protein is easy. The app records the nutri- tional content of each recipe ingredient and recommends serving sizes for each nutritional plan. You can also scale recipes based on your targets (like calo- ries per meal) or ingredients on hand. "We've proven with the retail suc- cess of Perfect Drink and Perfect Bake, that consumers are open to new approaches to making recipes," added Wallace. "Now we're providing the tech- nology people are asking for to help them manage and achieve nutrition success." Perfect Blend will be available for shipment this summer. For more information, visit booth #L12023. To get started, the Perfect Blend Interactive Recipe App suggests a weekly meal plan based on your personal nutri- tion goals such as losing weight, boosting protein intake or adding more super- foods. From there, the app builds a shop- ping list that you can use to buy exactly the right amount of spinach, carrots, berries and other items for the week's recipes. The Perfect Blend app features more than 200 taste-tested recipes (devel- oped by in-house chefs) for smoothies, soups, dips, sauces, doughs and baby food, with new ones added regularly. When you're ready to blend, select the blender type and place the blender jar on the smart scale. The interactive app guides you through each recipe by com- municating with the smart scale via Bluetooth: it tells you what ingredient to add next, and when you've added the right amount. No measuring needed. The app indicates the blender speed and dura-
