GOURMET NEWS MARCH 2016 www.gourmetnews.com FROM THE PUBLISHER 4 Greetings! As we go to print with our March issues of Kitchenware News and Gourmet News, we're just about ready to start packing to go to Chicago for the International Home + Housewares Show, which is, though you might not think it, really a celebration of food. We go to IH+HS to be surrounded by people who love food and love the physi- cal act of putting it on the table and enjoy helping others to put good food on their own tables as well. We look forward to it every year, and this year is certainly no ex- ception. In other news of vast interest to the food world, the Food and Drug Administration has sat down with the makers of raw milk cheeses to listen to their pleas that the agency needs to learn more about their business and the real public health risks of their products before regulating them out of business and some of our favorite cheeses out of existence. The agency has conceded that after months of testing of raw milk cheeses from artisanal cheese- makers across the country, it does appear that the vast majority of cheesemakers are in compliance with federal standards and just don't seem to present much of a risk to public health. That being the case, they're putting a pause on additional test- ing while they figure out if there's any point in continuing it. All in all, it does seem that March is going to be a good month to celebrate that good cheese will continue to be made and that we'll continue to have beautiful plates on which to serve it, sturdy knives with which to cut and spread it and all the gadgets our hearts could desire to prepare the accoutrements we'll set beside it on the table.
