C o n s t r u c t i o n M a r k e t p l a c e 6 9 T h u r s d a y, J a n u a r y 2 1 , 2 0 1 6 Inc. HL: Hacker's product line is extensive and diverse, designed to satisfy the most strin- gent product specifications. We offer a full line of FIRM-FILL ® Brand Gypsum Concretes and FIRM-FILL SCM resilient sound mats. Our products appear in over 100 UL floor/ceiling assemblies, and are formulated for installation over virtually any substrate. Compressive strengths for our FIRM-FILL Brand Gypsum Concretes vary, from 1200 psi to over 5200 psi. They are easily installed and quick drying, leav- ing a smooth, flat, durable surface ready for finished floor coverings and allowing construction activity to resume the very next day. Our new FIRM-FILL SCM line of resilient sound control mats address the need for reliable, cost-effective noise reduction. We have five sound mat prod- ucts ranging from 1/8 inch to 3/4 inches in thickness. When installed with our gypsum floor underlayments, FIRM-FILL SCM provides an effective sound control system and efficiently limit sound transmission. We also provide floor underlayment prod- ucts designed for radiant heat applications. GYP-SPAN Radiant creates an efficient thermal mass for even distribution of heat. Other products include FIRM-FILL CMD for light gauge steel structures and TRUE- SCREED CLU for renovation or repair projects. CM: What is new for Hacker Industries, Inc. this year? HL: We just completed a series of third party acoustical testing on our FIRM-FILL SCM product line. We performed testing at an NVLAP-approved laboratory in accor- dance with ASTM E90, E492 and E2170. The results were beyond impressive, prov- ing FIRM-FILL SCM resilient sound mats are a viable and proven option to help increase STC and IIC values to meet, and generally exceed, code requirements for multifamily residential structures. In an effort to educate the architectural and building communities on the performance Hacker Industries (Cont'd. from p. 1) of our FIRM-FILL SCM mats, we pub- lished our first Acoustical Design Guidelines. The Guidelines provide a com- prehensive overview of all our tested assemblies, including Open Web, Nominal Wood, I-Joist and Concrete, and how they performed acoustically with a variety of finished floor coverings. CM: What sets FIRM-FILL SCM resilient sound mats apart from the competition? HL: FIRM-FILL SCM resilient sound mats are composed of 100 percent pure polypropylene. As we developed the prod- uct line, we discovered that adding recy- cled fillers to the entangled net core of the sound mat hampered the compression resistance of the mat. In essence, the use of pure polypropylene prevents the mat from crumbling under heavy loads whereas products with recycled fillers tend to be more brittle. Our sound mats also have a Class-A fire rating and have been proven to meet and exceed sound code requirements in both lab and field tests. CM: FIRM-FILL SCM seems like an exciting, revolutionary new product. Can you explain the different applications where it would be installed? HL: FIRM-FILL SCM is ideal for resi- dential, multi-family and commercial projects where additional sound control is desired. When installed in properly engineered assemblies, FIRM-FILL Brand Gypsum Concretes and FIRM- FILL SCM can help dramatically help increase STC and IIC values. CM: How can the building industry get hold of your products? HL: We established a network of Licensed Applicators, located through- out North America, who install all FIRM-FILL Brand Gypsum Concretes and FIRM-FILL SCM sound control products. Creating a solution to a prob- lem that most people simply have become accustomed to dealing with is a challenge to show the value. As a paint and decorating contractor, I use the app every single day to keep better color records of our customers. It's a great feel- ing when you use an app and know that you created it. The old saying of "if you build it, they will come" does not apply in the app world. Marketing an app requires passion, persistence and the abil- ity to hear lots of ideas from others on how the app would be better, faster, stronger and implement the most request- ed and beneficial functions. Making an app functional, fun and looking good is a time consuming process, but very rewarding when you build something that just works. CM: What is the problem that SwatchDeck addresses? BB: Projects with many different colors and finishes can be confusing to keep track of. A finish schedule is what pro- fessionals are used to seeing in a project plan. With no universal standard for smaller residential projects, consumers are left at the discretion of the contractors they hire. There might be a box of left- over tile or a paint can left after the proj- ect is complete, but if not, the customer is left with nothing if anything ever comes up in the future. CM: What about just taking pictures of Swatchdeck (Cont'd. from p. 1) the product? Won't that work? BB: Taking pictures is a great record keeping method. SwatchDeck is centered around the idea of creating swatches using pictures. The problem with only taking pictures is that there is no organi- zation to them. For example, let's take a complete remodel of your home. You start taking pictures of the kitchen back- splash tile, your floor tile, paint colors, wood flooring or any other item you are deciding on. Other than the order of your photos, there is no real organization to these pictures. With SwatchDeck you can snap a photo of an item, then snap a photo of a price label, data sheet or any other information you need to recall the item. Adding notes about the item is easy as well. This is great for adding a quanti- ty, sheen or dimension to an item. Each swatch is organized into a room or area in a project for easy organizing. CM: Any final thoughts? BB: I hope those that have read this will give SwatchDeck a try. The interface is simple, the addition symbol signifies adding a house, swatch or room. If any- one has any problem using the app I will personally email them and try to help. Email me at contact@swatchdeckapp .com or visit us on the Web at swatchdeckapp.com. I hope to be back at IBS 2017. Have a great time! RN: In today's world, more and more people are looking for unique products that complement their lifestyle, be it for their personal tastes and demands or for work or play facilities. People are also more aware and proactive to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and a sauna and steam is a true contribution to this. As builders working with Saunacore, you will be able to provide your clients with the pop- ular choice of adding a sauna or steam to their new construction or renovation. Saunacore's vast product range will allow either residential or commercial projects to enhance their services to the users. CM: Can Saunacore custom build? RN: At Saunacore, we specialize in cus- tom built saunas. Many people want to stand out from the rest and show their unique style in either their homes, gym, yoga studio or clinic. This is also the case when it comes to sauna lovers. Sauna lovers want a sauna that reflects their needs, yet stands out from the rest to show their individuality. Many people Saunacore (Cont'd. from p. 1) have the misconception that the box- style saunas found across the internet market and in big-box stores are the only ones available, and this is definitely not the case. Many choices are available, and the options to allow for unique cut- ting edge design and build of saunas are endless. Saunacore offers a variety of alternatives that are sure to meet any consumer demands and specifications. Many times, pre-built modular saunas may not be an option, because the consumers' plans may already have a fixed space allocated for the sauna with pre-existing walls. In this case, the con- sumer will need something to be built on site. The alternative choice is a DIY sauna kit. A DIY sauna material kit pro- vides everything the builder needs to build directly on site. This is a relief to many builders, contractors, architects, homeowners and designers that are working with fixed spaces. In many cases, this applies to new condo projects, health facilities, community centers or residential spaces that may convert an existing space into a sauna — a cold cel- lar, a closet, etc. CM: Does Saunacore ship worldwide? RN: Saunacore has a trouble-free ship- ping department that will allow for inter- national shipments to be smooth and worry-free. For U.S. shipments, we have our own broker and can arrange shipping and broker paperwork. We also have drop ship service of shipping directly to either the site or home to allow for faster delivery times. We also welcome the use of customer preferred shipping carriers.
