E d Te c h S h o w D a i l y 1 7 F r i d a y, J a n u a r y 1 5 , 2 0 1 6 APPLE'S VOLUME PURCHASE PROGRAM (VPP) FOR EDUCATION The Volume Purchase Program (VPP) from Apple is a service designed to pro- vide cost savings for schools that pur- chase education apps and iBooks for their teachers and students to use on iPads or Mac computers in the digital classroom. VPP and the Casper Suite together sim- plify the process of purchasing software and deploying it to teachers and students. With VPP managed distribution and the Casper Suite, teachers and students get the software they need on all their devices, IT admins have a simple work- flow for distributing software, purchas- ing and software inventory is centralized and standardized, and schools can easily retain purchased licenses and re-distrib- ute apps as students come and go. VPP and the Casper Suite can help schools save money and ensure that the best learning apps and iBooks are made avail- able to students. How does it work? VPP is a service provided by Apple. Schools can enroll in the program with Apple and purchase app licenses for iPad, iPhone or Mac through the App Store. VPP app licenses are added to the Casper Suite m a n a g e m e n t console, where the IT administrator can assign them to the appropriate students. Inventory reporting is quick and easy, and app licenses can be reassigned as stu- dents learn and grow. What is required? VPP is available for schools in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Germany, France, New Zealand, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. Enrollment in VPP is available through Apple's Deployment Programs Portal. For more details on the enroll- ment requirements, read the Volume Purchase Program Guide from Apple. Once enrolled in the VPP program with Apple, apps and iBooks can be purchased at VPP rates and tokens will be provided, which are added to the Casper Suite to automate deployment and management licenses. The Casper Suite is built to integrate with VPP and provide the best Apple experi- ence for IT administrators and the teach- ers and students they support. Visit JAMF Software in booth #959. CONNECTED DEVICES: A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITY Ingram Micro Consumer Technology Solutions embraces the possibilities of the ever-expanding network of digitally connected objects – also known as the Internet of Things – and the vast potential for profit that this connectivity brings to the marketplace. Smart, connected devices are already transforming our world and the competitive forces in business. As early as 2008, there were already more objects than people connected to the Internet, and this year, the number of connected objects is expected to reach 4.9 billion. New devices, and even many ordi- nary objects, are also being invented or reinvented with digital sensing, comput- ing and communications capabilities. This functionality provides both new and previ- ously passive objects with a "digital voice" and the ability to create and deliver information streams reflecting their status and that of their surrounding environment. Such developments radically change the value proposition, creating new services and usage scenarios, and opening new avenues for enticing consumers to upgrade to smart devices and objects. For example, Gartner Research predicts that, by 2020, a quarter of a billion vehicles will be connected to the Internet, creating completely new possibilities for in-vehicle services and automated driving. According to estimates by the McKinsey Global Institute, the Internet of Things will have a total economic impact of up to $11 trillion by 2025. Having connected kitchens could save the food and beverage industry as much as 15 percent annually. The Internet of Things will allow companies to make smarter products, which, in turn, will enable more efficient operations and informed decisions as device data allows businesses to collect more and specific feedback on how products are used. Growth will be realized as completely new business mod- els are created to handle the aggre- gation and interpretation of this flow of valuable interconnected usage data. The implementation of real connec- tivity has barely begun, and the numbers are already staggering. Ingram Micro is poised to make the most of its breadth of variety in an array of technology sectors and vendors, and maximize the potential of this trend to bring a new age of prof- itability and growth to its customers. In addition, the mobile app lets anyone keep a full inventory of their school's assets on their personal handheld device, which is cou- pled with powerful online reporting tools that allow for instant updates throughout the system. As districts and schools deploy classroom mobility solutions and assign devices to faculty and students, SAM is able to support the distribution of dozens, hundreds or even thousands of devices in real time and keep a record of the locations of those devices. School Asset Manager is customiz- able and allows administrators and sup- port staff in small, medium and large school districts alike to add thousands of assets in minutes by easily importing existing asset data and create bulk uploads of new or existing assets. Powerful online reporting tools create custom reports quickly, such as location of all assets purchased with Title 1 funds. When data is recorded, it can be reported on instantly and exported to common for- mats with one click. School Asset Manager resources and ben- efits include: schedule important alerts; create reminders of important dates and actions required, such as warranty expira- tion, contract renewal, asset replacement, maintenance, inspection/testing and sup- port ticket notifications; Manage hard and soft assets; hard assets – everything from IT equipment to school buses and build- ings; soft assets – everything from con- tracts and warranties to licensing agree- ments and other critical documents; inte- grated support ticketing system; link sup- port tickets to assets for accurate support history; create, respond and close tickets on the move using the mobile app; 1 to 1 or loaner device accountability; simplify issuing mobile devices; eliminate paper- work; manage transactions that have unique terms and conditions with linked digital signatures; and multi-level permis- sions and security; give and restrict access to specific data.
