A f t e r m a r k e t D a i l y N e w s 1 0 1 W e d n e s d a y, N o v e m b e r 4 , 2 0 1 5 Series™ Exhaust and Pipe Wrap is a tough, effective thermal wrap for headers and exhaust pipes that have repeated exposure to abrasion or high impact road or trail conditions. The EXO Series Wrap is designed to deliver both superior heat protection and resistance to harsh road, track or off road conditions. Developed for long-lasting dura- bility, the EXO Series features a dual layer material constructed of high tem- perature glass fiber, encased in a 304 grade stainless steel exoskeleton, tough enough for the most extreme desert, dirt track or off-road condi- tions. With DEI's new Air Gap tech- nology, an insulating air barrier that keeps direct contact of the glass fiber DEI (Cont'd. from p. 1) wrap off the hot surface of the pipe, makes the EXO Series Exhaust and Pipe Wrap a preferred premium wrap for any truck or vehicle off-road or on the street. The Exo Series Exhaust and Pipe Wrap is currently offered in both tan and black in a 1.5-inch width, and 10- and 20- foot lengths. Installation is made easier with the exterior exoskeleton that "locks in" when overlapped for a secure fit. Recommended use includes exhaust pipes, headers or for spot protection of pipes and components. This works well with small items, but how do large items fit into this model effectively? DK2 (Detail K2 Inc.) is doing its part to resolve this difficult problem. Its new Version II Custom Mount DIY Snow Plows and Mighty Multi Utility Trailer are each being sold with the ben- efit of reduced freight, storage and han- dling costs passed along the supply chain to our customers, and inevitably, to theirs. DK2 Snow Plows are shipped in a single carton on a standard 40-inch by 48-inch pallet and can easily be shipped in stacks of three, as each carton is only 16 inches high. DK2 plows come in three sizes — 82, 84 and 88-inch — with a cus- tom two-point mount available that will fit almost any vehicle. All three plows assemble within an hour and are support- ed by a one-year full warranty. Let's look at the impact this has on supply chain costs. To demo, showcase or warehouse three DK2 plows requires one pallet space. By comparison, three traditional assembled plows would take up six pallet spaces in your warehouse, showroom or store. They're bulky, awkward and diffi- cult to handle. Every plow is shipped with an inte- grated pallet style base so it can be loaded and unloaded efficiently with either a tow motor or pump truck by a single person. This provides an effective DK2 (Cont'd. from p. 1) solution for drop ship programs. Generally, freight costs for this type of product is a margin killer. If you com- pare shipping three DK2 Snow Plows from Pennsylvania to North Dakota ver- sus shipping traditional assembled plows between the same two states, there is a conservative estimate savings of 50 per- cent in freight costs. Like DK2's Snow Plows, the DK2 Mighty Multi 2000lb 5ftx7ft Utility Trailer comes in a single carton, ready for the consumer to assemble. Although it takes one to two hours to assemble, the instructions are simple and the task is painless. It, too, has a one year warranty. While each trailer can be shipped individually and drop shipped to a consumer, a bulk pallet of four units for distribution center ful- fillment is available. In both cases, when compared to a traditional assem- bled trailer, the freight costs savings is again at least 50 percent. In 2014, U.S. online spending was $306 billion and should increase to $349 billion in 2015. It is estimated that online sales will increase by 10 percent com- pounded over the next five years. For the first time, consumers are now going into stores, evaluating products and then buy- ing online. At this point and going for- ward with products available like the DK2 Snow Plows and Utility Trailer, DK2 is poised to offer effective B2B and B2C solutions for all its customers. From these begrimed surroundings arose the need and inspiration to create a safe and fast bolt cleaner: the Thread Wizard. Let's take a look at the man and his rev- olutionary new tool that is set to change how the industry handles dirty bolts. In his 42 years as a master mechan- ic, Taylor has worked for major motor companies and eventually opened his own shop. In his years of diligent work, he has seen more than a few dirty bolts, and like most technicians, has struggled with the conventional methods of clean- ing them. Unhappy with the hassles of long soak times, storing and disposing of solvents and not willing to accept the substandard results of a wire brush, Taylor was using a wire wheel on a bench grinder to clean a grimy bolt. In the mid- dle of cleaning the bolt, the wire wheel grabbed the bolt and shot it into his chest. While it wasn't the first bolt Taylor had had shot at him by a grinder, he vowed it would be the last. He immediately sat down to engineer a better solution. The fruits of his labor culminated in the Thread Wizard, the revolutionary bolt cleaner that provides a safe and fast way to clean bolts, increasing repair speed while eliminating the need to replace bolts. Thread Wizard (Cont'd. from p. 1) While the Thread Wizard is a unique and industry-changing innovation, Taylor pointed out how simple but perfectly engi- neered the tool is. Housed in a highly durable ABS plastic handle, which is shaped to be handheld or clamped in a vise, a carbon steel wire wheel of the high- est quality protrudes into size specific holes surrounding the wheel. When a bolt is matched to the appropriate hole and turned through the Thread Wizard with hand or power tools appropriate for the bolt, the wire wheel removes all grime, dirt, surface rust, adhesives and fouling. Offered in both standard (SAE) and metric sizes, the Thread Wizard fits the needs of mechanics, service professionals and home hobbyists. Taylor is especially proud that the Thread Wizard is manufac- tured in the United States with materials sourced from right here in America. Whether in a work setting, being used around the house or in the field, the Thread Wizard allows those working with bolts to clean them immediately and thor- oughly without downtime or added safety risks. When the time comes to reinstall the bolts, it can be done properly and without needless bolt replacement, saving both time and money. The Thread Wizard is available for pur- chase or wholesale at www.thread wizard.us and can be seen and purchased at SEMA booth #90229 in the Performance Pavilion. world of multinational corporations swallowing up their smaller competitors, the family run business is virtually non- existent. But look no further than L.A.SLEEVE, based in Santa Fe Springs, California. In business since 1945, the Metchkoff family is celebrating its 70th anniversary producing performance cylinder sleeve liners for automotive, heavy duty, industrial, truck, tractor, race car, sport compact, motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles and boats. Family patriarch Nicholas W. Metchkoff, son of an immigrant, envi- sioned a company which would provide security for his wife, children and grand- children, God willing. After 20 years of working for an engine parts manufactur- er in Los Angeles and seeing an opportu- nity to supply engine builders coming out of WWII, along with his son Gary, in a leap of faith he started a small company named Los Angeles Sleeve Co, Inc. If he was still with us, Nicholas may not have believed that his great grandchildren would actually live out his vision. Frankly, the L.A.SLEEVE brand actually transcends its product. Just about anyone who has rebuilt the core of an engine over the last 70 years has heard of L.A.SLEEVE. It's often said by engine builders, who may not have even used an L.A.SLEEVE liner: "L.A.SLEEVE? I've known those guys for years, since I was in technical school! Oh gosh, I've installed their sleeves into a block 10 (or 20, 30, 40) years ago!" I asked L.A.SLEEVE Vice President Dave Metchkoff about that notoriety. Dave says, "I've been hearing for years L.A.SLEEVE (Cont'd. from p. 1) how our sleeves were used to get some- body out of trouble; usually for race motors. I can't help but take a little pride in the fact that we're recognized as a reli- able source for engine builders all over the world. Our reputation carries us, and it's gratifying that we're known as a qual- ity American manufacturer. We don't feel any need to prop ourselves up as any- thing other than a fourth generation fam- ily business, offering quality, genuine personal service, unmatched technologi- cally advanced sleeve materials, and installation techniques." Dave adds, "We'd challenge any competitor to match our install theories, material compositions and customer service. We're old school in practice, and ahead of our time regarding making per- formance sleeve kits. When a customer calls to order, get technical assistance, or even complain, they'll likely speak to a family member rather than an employee with no tie to grandfather Nick. Our cus- tomers really find that refreshing, and tell us so." With many manufacturers moving offshore to save costs, why does L.A.SLEEVE continue making sleeves near Los Angeles, California? Isn't that increasingly difficult? Dave says, "It's who we are; can't see doing anything different. We employ family, relatives, friends from church, even legal immigrants. We've lived the dream; been blessed in this coun- try of opportunity. We're committed to what's been passed down to us. I'll admit the challenge is intimidating, but we'll do our best to continue grandfather Nick's forethought and vision." Visit L.A.SLEEVE at booth #20541. thing similar to the Denali. The Spectre Mesh is very popular when the vehicle is used to tow a lot, as it allows for protection as well as ample air flow. The Diamond was a special edi- tion, but due to popular demand, it is available for most newer applications. The company also has a winter screen that is great for cooler climates, as it helps keep the engine compartment warm. All of the stainless screens come with a three-year warranty. Cloud-Rider Designs has also just come out with its new line of Stealth black grills. They feature an industrial grade black aluminum for those who Cloud-Rider (Cont'd. from p. 4) prefer the blacked out look. They are available for most of the popular trucks, SUVs and cars that are out today. They also come with a one-year warranty. A new addition to the screen lineup, featured at SEMA this year, is the lighted bumper grill insert. It is a grill insert using the Spectra Mesh design and has an LED light bar that offers extra lighting to your vehicle and offers the same protec- tion as the regular grill. It is available in the stainless steel and the black alu- minum. For more information, go to www.cloud- rider.com, call 800.632.1255 or email office@cloud-rider.ca.
