More and more schools are incorporating Chromebooks into their teaching curricu- lum, but not every school's 1:1 initiative can be considered a success. Picking the wrong Chromebook management soft- ware can result in incomplete protection and unexpected expenses through the life of the devices. In a world of meeting budget requirements and making the best use of teacher resources, technology like the Chromebook can be a double edged sword some districts may see as too dif- ficult or expensive to fully implement. Truth is, they are merely missing the right tool to allow them to make the best use of their choice of technology. Chromebooks come with basic pro- tections, but not enough to allow a school district to functionally manage an entire fleet of them at once. While online dis- tractions may be easily blocked with fil- ters and blacklists, the mobility of tech- nology like the Chromebook brings new challenges. Administrators now have to consider how they can manage the ways students use their technology from home. Standard network filters can provide basic Internet filtering while in the class- room, but they offer no benefit once a device leaves school premises. Further, as more curriculum begins to incorporate websites and other online content for teaching, traditional all-or-nothing style filters will have to make way for some- thing more agile and responsive to the changing Internet. Some schools try to handle these types of new challenges on a piecemeal approach, finding an individ- ual tool for each challenge as it arises. Unfortunately, that technique can be costly in the long run as each program requires separate implementation and BRING OKI'S RELIABLE AND COST-EFFECTIVE PRINTING SOLUTIONS TO YOUR SCHOOL OKI Data Americas offers an award-win- ning portfolio of high-value, affordable printing solutions to help school districts succeed.
