Now 30 years later, D.L. Couch covers 23 states with an array of architectural and decorative products for the contract market, including vinyl wallcoverings, textiles, upholstery and decorative fabrics. Founded by Dennis Couch, the company has an experienced, knowledgeable team with many years' experience in the interior finish market. D.L. Karndean Designflooring's designers traveled the world to find the inspiration stones for Art Select Stones, the company's latest collection of premium tiles. A new collection of 12-inch by 48-inch carpet plank, Traction Avenue is a collaboration between Joey Shimoda of Shimoda Design Group and Mannington Commercial, a leading innovator in modular carpet. Shimoda is one of only nine people to be named a Fellow of both AIA and IIDA; his work as an architect and designer with Steelcase, Rolex, MTV Networks and other clients was celebrat- ed not only by the professional associations, but with awards including Contract Magazine's Designer of the Year 2013. It was at the breakfast where this award was presented that Natalie Jones, VP of Brand Development and Creative Product for Mannington Commercial, first met him. "Joey brings such warmth, personality and insightfulness, along with a truly sophisticated design mind, to every project. Plus, his work is simply beautiful," Jones said. "I knew right away that we wanted to collaborate with his studio." Two years later, the two companies are launching the fruits of this collaboration. Shimoda drew inspiration from the Arts District in Eastern L.A., where his studio is located.
