B r o a d c a s t e r s S h o w D a i l y Tu e s d a y, A p r i l 1 4 , 2 0 1 5 2 2 IN-BAND INERFERENCE DETECTION NOW EASY WITH AVQ1020DVBS One of the common issues in the satellite communication industry is DVB-S/S2 signal spectrum overlapping or in-band interference. There are a number of potential reasons causing the interfer- ence, including jamming signals, trans- mitter path non-linearity or cross-polar- ization rejection issues. The expense of detecting and resolving the problem can be significant to the broadcaster. Early detection turns into a crucial part of pro- active protection against in-band interfer- ence. Whether it is a poorly configured station equipment or accidental interfer- ence by another transmitter, signal over- lapping can result in low SNR (Signal-to- Noise Ratio) and BER (Bit Error Ratio) of a receiver and, eventually, may lead to service interruption and satellite link fail- ure. The situation may grow into a bigger problem when the "ghost" signal has a small amplitude relative to the main sig- nal. In this case, the "ghost" is buried under the main signal and its detection becomes a challenge. Avateq Corp. has developed a state- of-the-art DSP (digital signal process- ing) technique that makes it possible to analyze the signal structure for detecting in-band interference of dif- ferent natures. The tech- nique uses sophisticated algorithms to separate the useful signal and underly- ing noise, under-carrier "ghost" signal or non-lin- earity products and visual- ize them on a spectrum plot. This inno- vative functionality is now a standard feature of AVQ1020DVBS – ActiveCore RF Layer Monitoring Receiver for DVB-S/S2 standards and provides additional powerful tools for enhanced "in-depth" analysis of the sig- nal and potential factors of the signal quality degradation. AVQ1020DVBS equipped with an intelligent alarm man- agement system that can be instructed to trigger in case of the signal quality falling below a user defined threshold. AVQ1020 allows an operator to monitor remote transmitting sites through a Web interface or as a part of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol )-based network management system. The analyzer fea- tures an easy to use and highly customiz- able alarm system with user-defined thresholds and assigned severity levels. The internal-logging server records events and measured parameters history for archiving and future analysis. DATAVIDEO UNVEILS GAME CHANGING PRODUCTS This year at NAB, Datavideo Corporation is introducing a series of compelling new products from switchers to recorders and media players. Datavideo manufactures a complete line of live video production equipment for any size project. Traditionally, high qual- ity production equipment comes with a high price tag; however, Datavideo is now offering two powerful switchers that are affordable and rich in features. The SE-700 is Datavideo's most affordable all in one HD switcher with a built in control panel. It has four inputs (2 x HD-SDI + 2 x HDMI), dual chro- makeyers, luma key, DSK, PIP, wipe generators, still stores, tally and an RJ-45 control interface that allows you to con- trol the switcher from your computer as an option. Also included are two balance XLR audio inputs for connecting an external audio mixer. With an MSRP price of $1,799, the SE-700 is an afford- able HD switcher that fits into any appli- cation. The SE-1200MU is another new cost effective HD switcher from Datavideo. It is housed in a one RU rack chassis that is perfect for broadcast appli- cations because you can install multiple units in your mobile rack or in the studio. The SE-1200MU has six inputs (4 x HD-SDI and 2 x HDMI) and it includes all of the same features as the SE-700 with an MSRP price of only $1,499. The SE-1200MU can be used in distant control applica- tions, ideal for stadiums, school auditori- ums, large studio classrooms and more. Datavideo will also be introducing the HDR-10 Highlight Replay Recorder to its product line. This is a single chan- nel recorder with a removable hard drive (compatible with 2.5" SSD drives), that can record from both high and standard definition video equip- ment via 3G/HD/SD- SDI and supports 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 576i and 480i video formats. The recorder is designed to record and mark com- pelling scenes during a sports game or a talk show, then replay it to your switcher. This will be great for student athletes who are looking to create their own highlight reels with a unit that is reliable and easy to use. The HDR-10 Highlight Replay Recorder has an MSRP price of $1,499. For more information, visit www.datavideo.us or stop by booth #SL9716. RIATT PROVIDES RAPID WEBPAGE ACCESS Blazee, Inc., a start-up company, announced its web service application "Riatt" at NAB Show 2015. Riatt is a service provided to broadcasters, media agents and advertisers, along with their audiences. Riatt has created new ways to help guide audiences to a whole new level. A broadcaster would like to point the audi- ences to a particular webpage that includes a call to action, such as pages for ordering merchandise, promoting products with a coupon, polling customer opinions or providing more information about a broadcaster's program. This has its challenges. First, the URL of the page is usu- ally quite long and is difficult for the audience to remember, especially if it is broadcast orally on TV or radio or even on a DOOH. It's easy for the user to make typos when typing in the long URL, especially if it contains mis- spelled words or meaningless character strings. It is equally cumbersome to ask the audience to go to a homepage and follow a link or type in a URL because there are too many distractions on that homepage. An audience is likely to be distracted by something else on the homepage rather than following the instructions. Therefore, to improve the interaction between a broadcast program and the audience via webpages on the Internet, a solution is required to conveniently link, in real time, the broad- casting program to the webpage that is designated by the broadcaster. Riatt is the system and method that enables the audience of a television or radio program to quickly find a webpage intended by the broadcaster in real time. A viewer or listener will be able to con- nect to the webpage by typing a short code that is displayed on the TV screen or a DOOH display or broadcast orally from a TV program or radio program – no need to type a long web address. The webpage may allow the audience to interact with the program that is being broadcasted. "Right at the moment, Right at the page." Riatt sends the audience right to the particular webpage right at the moment that they get the mes- sage. Furthermore, Riatt also provides dashboard and analytics information to customers to improve marketing cam- paign performance. Blazee Inc. is offering a free trial program of the Riatt service. Broadcasters, media agents or advertisers who register as a customer during the NAB Show will be able to use the serv- ice for free during the trial period. Please contact customer@riatt.com for more information. For more information, stop by booth #N6730 or visit www.riatt.com. SAVE TIME AND SPACE WITH ACCUSOFT'S CRAM Smartphone photographers have reached a crossroads. While the quality of smart- phone images is now competitive with traditional cameras, the image sizes take up a ton of space, forcing users to scram- ble for more storage. Even when using external storage like a cloud service, transmission times of large files can be incredibly slow, leaving users frustrated. What's a photographer to do? Cram It Accusoft's new mobile image com- pression application for Android devices, called Cram, is the solution everyday smartphone photographers need. Cram's imaging scientists devel- oped unbeatable, enterprise-level JPEG compression technology that is used in software across multiple indus- tries. Now this powerful image com- pression is in Cram and available to smartphone photography professionals and amateurs alike. After looking closely at the prob- lems most smartphone users have, Cram was developed to offer a simple, easy-to-use solution for saving space. Maintaining high-fidelity, the app shrinks pictures by 60 percent or more, resulting in two-thirds more space in storage. Users can skip external media cards that are easily lost and move straight to cloud storage or their person- al computers. The dramatically smaller file size also empowers faster transmission times, whether transferring to the cloud, email- ing or sharing on social media. Users will worry less about skyrocketing data rates since the smaller files will enable them to send more media within their monthly plan limits. Compression Isn't a Dirty Word For a lot of photography professionals, "compression" has a negative connota- tion attached to it. Haphazard image degradation and pixelated images has left them hesitant to commit to another product. But Cram's compression tech- nology is unmatched in the industry. It retains the resolution, the full dis- play/print dimensions, and even the quality. Understanding the perception that many people have of compression, Accusoft offers a free version of Cram including 300 free images over the lifetime of the app to give users a chance to experience the technology. Skip the storage scramble – the solu- tion is right here. For more information, go to www .accusoft.com.
