It was the store she turned to for tools when she first began the journey to lose the 118 pounds she has lost so far. Now the journey is a main focus of the store, and she's not done yet. "Here I am in the food industry, and we always talk about food. It's so easy to end up eating more than you should, and I put on a lot of weight over the years," says Lane. "I decided to turn to my kitchen store and use the tools in my kitchen store to lose weight. I researched all the diets, and I created my own diet, and I did it. I followed my own diet, and I lost all this weight." From there, Lane had people approaching her and asking how she had done it. She followed the logical steps and decided to offer classes in her store to share her healthy-eating tips with others and The Pinch Diet was born. Nowadays, popular culture references in the kitchen abound, allowing home cooks to show off their personality with pride. These products are not just for children or Hello Kitty and Disney fans either. A whole Pop Culture Themes Liven Up The Kitchen Housewares Charity Foundation Announces 2015 Honorees A Lot to See at This Year's Housewares Show segment of kitchenwares, ranging f rom cutler y, tools, gadgets, dinnerware and more, now reflect aspects of pop culture that recall music, film, TV shows, video games and social trends. From "Star Wars" knife blocks to cookie stamps that leave impressions of well-known rap artists, these kitchen products are not only functional but inspirational as well, acting as a welcoming mat for those who might normally be intimidated by the thought of baking or cooking. The Rhode Island-based company, Fred & Friends, has taken a background in the toy industry to bring fun and whimsy into the kitchen for the last 10 years. Designing products in the giftware category, the company has collections for the home, office, party and technology as well. The products reflect the playfulness and interaction that is key to toy development while remaining completely functional in the kitchen. "We decided that our products needed to be not only fun and Richard Baker, Governor and Executive Chairman, Hudson's Bay Company, and Brian Kelley, President and CEO, Keurig Green Mountain, Inc., will be honored by the Housewares Charity Foundation (HCF) during its 18th Annual Housewares Charity Foundation Gala on Monday evening, March 9, during the 2015 International Home + Housewares Show in Chicago. Baker and Kelley will receive the Humanitarian of the Year awards during the Gala, which will be held at Navy Pier, beginning with a reception at 6 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), the HCF 's legacy charity, and Save the Children, an organization that invests in childhood – every day, in times of crisis and for the future. In the United States and around the world, Save the Children gives children a healthy start, the opportunity to learn and protection f rom harm. Since the first gala in 1998, HCF has raised more than $27 million and has been credited with donating $21 million to BCRF. For the last five years, the HCF has raised record amounts of more than $2 million each year. Co-chairs for the 2015 event are Phil Brandl, President and CEO of the International Housewares Association, and Ken O'Brien, Senior Vice President, Merchandising, QVC, Inc. In a collaborative effort among industry manufacturers, retailers and allied industry partners, the non-profit HCF hosts this annual event to raise funds for critical causes, unite the housewares industry and honor its leaders. Judging by the quantity and quality of new items that manufacturers are already revealing for press previews, this year's show will be an outstanding exposition of products created specifically to meet the needs of specialty kitchenware retailers and their customers.
