Unlike summative assess- ment, it allows students and teachers to collaborate during assignments to iden- tify strengths and weaknesses immedi- ately and to improve teaching and learn- ing. For the student to get the most out of formative assessment, feedback must be timely, specific and consistent through- out the process. In order for students to use feedback effectively, they must receive it when they need it. The fresher the task is in the minds of the students, the more likely they are to apply the feedback in their task. Timely feedback can prevent con- tinued use of incorrect information, processes, and means. PEG Writing gives students this immediate feedback with scores based on the six-trait rubric. Students receive a score for each trait, suggested improve- ments and recommended tutorials within seconds of submitting their work. With this foundation, students can begin the revision process while the feedback is still fresh in their minds. If teachers want students to use feed- back, they not only need to tell them what to do to be better at a task, but how and sometimes why to do it. For example, when teachers tell a student that he did a "Good job!" on an essay, what does that mean? Does the student know why the essay is good? Perhaps a better comment would include, "Your vivid descriptions of the places you visited made your story come alive!" The student then understands what he did to accomplish a "good job." PEG Writing allows teachers to make comments and suggestions for spe- cific improvements along with the auto- mated feedback it gives students. Teachers can make in-line essay sugges- tions using a sticky notes feature, or they can take advantage of the textual evi- dence and content accuracy suggestion fields, which complement the automatic six-trait feedback. Students can also work together using PEG Writing's peer review feature, so students can review each other's work and identify specific areas of improvement. If students are going to use feedback to make adjustments in their academic performance, it must be clear, direct and depend- able. PEG Writing is backed by the country's most researched scoring engine, Project Essay Grade, and updates to the system are performed on a regular basis to ensure that the feedback students receive is accurate and consistent. Students are more likely to use feed- back if it is timely, specific and consis- tent. They are also more likely to show improvement when they incorporate con- structive feedback into their learning tasks and products. PEG Writing makes it easier for teachers to incorporate this type of feedback into their writing assignments. For more information, visit PEG Writing at booth #606. THINK BIG: BRING OKI'S AFFORDABLE SOLUTIONS TO YOUR SCHOOL OKI offers high-value, low-cost printing- based solutions to help students, teachers and administrators get the most out of their classroom time. Educators are often challenged with the constraints of ever- tightening budgets and the risk of unlim- ited access to color printers in schools can be a problem. However, OKI has the ability to let schools monitor and control color printing with select color printers and MFPs (multi-function products) by defining who can print in color and what gets printed. Color Access Policy Manager (CAPM) makes printing in color cost effective for your school. It allows administrators, teachers and/or computer lab technicians to control printer usage by determining who and what can print in color, in black and white, or not at all. In addition to the CAPM, OKI provides other software solutions to fit all your needs and help control costs in the class- room such as PaperCut MF™, Print Job Accounting Software and SMART Managed Print Services. Additionally, research shows that teachers spend at least 35 percent of their time on grading papers and on adminis- trative tasks. OKI knows that testing stu- dents and processing results can be a time-consuming task, and more and more educators are looking to automate the grade testing process. With the Remark© Test Grading Solution that is compatible with all OKI multifunction devices, teachers now have a bubble testing solu- tion that allows them more time to focus on the most important thing of all – teaching. Check the technologies below that you think would most benefit your school and enhance your students' learn- ing experience, and bring this list to an OKI education specialist at booth #1247 to learn about the cost-effective products and solutions your school can employ today. This removes the students' ability to access other Wi-Fi connections, ensur- ing all students and audience members will be on task and focused on the lesson. The viewers can only see what the instructor wants them to see and the host computer is notified when a viewer has closed the Circle Viewer App. ELMO Elite P2MP Max allows the instructor to hand over control to a stu- dent for interactive learning. The Circle Viewer App is available to download for client devices from iTunes and Google Play. ELMO Elite P2MP is also available in smaller systems depending upon class size. ELMO elite P2MP Plus reaches up to 10 devices and ELMO elite P2MP Lite reaches up to five devices. These systems are great for smaller intimate classes and meetings. ELMO is also pleased to announce a new addition to the ELMO Classroom Solutions family, the TT-12iD Interactive Document Camera. When its 12x optical zoom is combined with its 8x digital zoom, images can be enlarged up to 96x, allowing users to see the tiniest details. The TT-12iD can also be integrated with ELMO's CRA-1 Wireless Tablet and ELMO's Student Response System. The CRA-1 Wireless Tablet allows users to annotate on live images and conduct les- sons while walking around the classroom and interacting with his or her students. When a computer is used, the teacher has unlimited possibilities with ELMO's Image Mate Accent for SRS software. Image Mate Accent for SRS allows for the integration of ELMO's Student Response System.
