How you measure it, work by it and live by it depends on the craftsmanship, quality and pride that goes into each timekeeping piece. This is how those at American Time think of their work. It has more than 26,000 customized timekeeping systems, clocks and parts. It repairs all major system clock brands. Everything is made or assembled right here in the United States. At the headquarters in Dassel, Minn., its small-town experts hand- assemble its high-tech solutions. A real per- son even answers the phone. Some may call that old-fashioned. American Time calls it an unwavering commitment to quality, service and sup- porting the local community. Today, 85 people – some of them family members – work at the 40,000 square foot headquarters repairing, man- ufacturing and servicing timekeeping systems for any school that needs syn- chronized time. Its success hasn't come by accident. It's come from the hard work, the tremendous ded- ication of its employees and its laser focus on quality, crafts- manship and superior service. Ameican Time's solutions are in more than half of the K-12 school districts in the U.S. It offers free tech support for the life of its products, and free, on-site clock audits are available upon request. When the White House couldn't find parts for a vintage brass clock, the staff called American Time. CEO, Jeff Baumgartner, founded American Time in 1980. He was the sole employee and sold system replacement clocks. The company quickly took root as it earned its reputation for being a sin- gle source for system replacement clocks, especially among schools that used several different system brands. American Time acquired other businesses over the years and eventually became a manufacturer and distributor of its own time- keeping systems, in addition to building up its renowned repair team. American Time is excited about the years ahead and it is working to attract fresh, innovative minds in engineering, R&D and sales to ensure that it continues to strengthen its leadership – without sac- rificing the values that got it here in the first place. This is American Time's com- mitment to delivering high-tech clock solutions to schools across the country. TABLET TRADE-UP BRINGS JUST THE RIGHT TOUCH TO DEVICE UPGRADES School budgets are tight all over, yet dis- tricts want to give their students the latest and greatest technology to help them be as competitive as possible. Administrators need to walk a fine line and get the most tablet bang for their buck. The solution is to sell used hard- ware while it still has value, and use those funds toward an upgrade. FundingFactory's Tablet Trade-Up Program shows individual schools, dis- tricts and other organizations how to get the best value when it's time to upgrade. Tablet Trade-Up is backed by Clover Technologies Group, an industry leader in reclaiming and remanufacturing tablets; its network includes 34 locations in 14 countries worldwide. Given its size and flexibility – the network has processed more than 1.2 million wireless devices – schools and organizations can get a competitive price for their used devices. The key is deciding when to make that trade-up. "We've seen a huge response to our Tablet Trade-Up program so far," explained Conor MacDowell, Channel Development Manager for FundingFactory's Higher Ed & Bulk Buybacks division. "Schools are largely unaware of buy- back programs for their old technology. Many are surprised by the amount of residual value in their retired devices." Schools aren't always aware of their upgrade options, either. If a district can't afford brand new iPad Air devices, for example, Tablet Trade-Up offers refur- bished-guaranteed tablets of many makes and models. "Our first goal is to get these devices back in the hands of schools that need them," explained MacDowell. Having established close relation- ships with over 30,000 schools and non- profits nationwide, FundingFactory draws on its 17-year his- tory of inkjet and toner cartridge recycling for these groups to provide a trusted service with Tablet Trade-Up. Selecting new tablets is an important decision, particularly when it comes time to trading in those devices. Some brands hold their value much better than others. SECURE EMAIL FROM GOLDKEY Security is quickly becoming the buzz- word of the decade, yet one very high security target that is still inadequately addressed is email. While a number of email systems are scrambling to close those seemingly never-ending security holes via more and more advanced security settings – such as SMS verification – most users still log into their email account with a password and an OTP code, and in every case their email is still sitting, fair game, unen- crypted, in the cloud. Enter GoldKey Secure Email. Secure GoldKey Secure Email manages authentication via a custom USB hard- ware token for PCs (a GoldKey) or a GoldKey Soft Token downloaded onto a mobile device – plus a PIN that is cre- ated by the user. GoldKey never asks for the user's email address and never sends the user's PIN over the Internet. In addition, GoldKey Secure Email never stores copies of email on the device – it's all stored, encrypted, in the cloud. This means that simply removing the GoldKey or Soft-token and signing out makes it impossible to access the data – including all those private messages, pictures and personal information. Convenient Not only is GoldKey Mail secure, but it is also has some attractive convenience features. One of those is logging in. Just getting into and out of email accounts can be a hassle, especially if security is the goal. Instead of requiring the email address, password, and text message ver- ification, GoldKey simply requires the user's PIN. Another convenience of GoldKey Mail is its GoldKey Groups. This feature allows users to create different groups – e.g., work, family, friends – and invite candidates to join. This makes it possible for GoldKey Mail users to easily send announcements and messages, or have group discussions with everyone in a given group. Clean One of the surprise features of GoldKey Mail is that it is clean. GoldKey has refrained from using email data for advertising, so GoldKey Mail is com- pletely ad-free. INTRODUCING CHADDER: A FUN, EASY, SECURE MESSAGING PLATFORM Etransfr is a new private communications platform focused on building a modern messaging platform called Chadder, which recently launched on iOS, Windows and Android, with tablet sup- port coming soon. It's free to download at www.chadder.im or by typing Chadder into any app store. "At Etransfr we believe that it is our job to provide easy access to privacy. Without that there is no reason to build another private chat application. Today's platforms are either hard to use or don't have enough users on them to make them fun to use. The platforms that are actual- ly secure were built for people who are very concerned about their privacy, and they're willing to give up features to maintain their privacy," said Etransfr CEO Lexi Sprague. "We've built Chadder so it's easy enough to use for dad chatting with mom, for teenagers, but its security will protect you in business- to-business conversations." Even though Chadder is easy to use, it protects users' privacy by limiting the amount of information that's collected by the app. Etransfr plans to make money through in-app purchase sales, APIs and a B2B subscription service. Chadder gives users the power to send messages that disappear from the recipients' phones after a user-designated time period. "When the message disap- pears, it really disappears – it doesn't just change its file name and save somewhere else," Sprague said. "The second feature, which is unique to us, is that if you send some- thing and you want to take it back, you can delete the message off your phone, and it deletes from the recipient's phone as well, so if you regret a message later, you can take it back," she continued. In addition, Etransfr has designed the platform to work across platforms, so that you can log in with your personal phone, and then when you're at the office, you can log in with your work phone – and all your conversations will be there. Tablet support is coming soon, which will extend the cross-platform functionality even more. "You'll be able to go seam- lessly between devices and continue your conversation," Sprague said. Etransfr is looking to meet other col- lege students who want to join in the cod- ing for an exciting venture with the capacity to change how people commu- nicate with each other. At the same time, Etransfr is also launching a major fund- ing round and is looking for support for that as well. "The projects that we have in mind for the near future involve things that the industry has never seen before, so we have some exciting times ahead," Sprague said.
