C o n s u m e r E l e c t ro n i c s D a i l y N e ws Fri d a y, J a n u a r y 9 , 2 0 1 5 6 6 INGRAM MICRO'S TOM BAMRICK NAMED TO 2015 CEA BOARD OF INDUSTRY LEADERS Ingram Micro Inc. has announced the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) ® has elected Tom Bamrick, General Manager for Ingram Micro Consumer Electronics, to its 2015 Board of Industry Leaders (BIL). CEA is the technology trade association representing the $211 billion U.S. consumer electron- ics industry, and also owns and produces the International CES ® – The Global Stage for Innovation. The 45-person 2015 BIL serves CEA and its Executive Board in an advisory role, helping to set public policy positions and priorities for association activities. "We are thrilled to have Tom Bamrick join CEA's Board of Industry Leaders," said Gary Shapiro, President and CEO of CEA. "The BIL offers invaluable experience and strategic direction to help guide our association and our industry. Bamrick joins some of the most innovative industry leaders in the consumer technology business as a member of our Board. With his vast experience and expertise, we look for- ward to his contributions to our BIL and our association." During his 20-year career with Ingram Micro, Bamrick has led a number of company initiatives and developed strategic relationships with Ingram Micro's largest, multi-billion dollar global partners. As the general manager of Ingram Micro's CE business, he runs the day-to-day operations and is responsible for the success of the teams located in Scottsdale Ariz., the CE divisional head- quarters, as well as in Buffalo, N.Y. and Manila, Philippines. Under Bamrick's leadership, the Ingram Micro CE business has recognized significant growth in alliance with industry leading vendors such as Samsung, and diversified its prod- uct and customer portfolio via expansion into categories such as housewares and home automation. "It's a privilege to be joining my industry peers from so many great organizations and serving on the board of an organization that has such a well-respected voice and is valued as an educational resource for the CE industry," said Bamrick. "During my 20 years at Ingram Micro, I've been fortunate to play a role in the evolution and convergence of the IT and CE channels, and have seen much of the industry's innovation and value firsthand. I'm looking forward to working collabo- ratively with the other BIL members to help shape the future of the CE land- scape." Fifteen new members of CEA's BIL and the Executive Board were confirmed by a vote of CEA members at the CEA Innovate! event held earlier this year in Phoenix, Ariz. Other recently elected BIL members include representatives from AT&T, Certified Sounds, Cobra Electronics, Ford, Fujifilm North America Corp., iBiquity Digital Corp., Incipio, MiTek Electronics and Communications, Panasonic Consumer North America & Global Panasonic Digital, Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc., Samsung Electronics America Inc., Specialty Technologies/SVS, Stopped.at and ViXS. CHARGEPOINT: DRIVING MASSIVE TRANSFORMATION IN THE AUTO INDUSTRY The auto industry has essentially been static for decades now, but with the recent success of electric vehicles (EVs), the car industry is undergoing a massive transformation from fossil fuel to elec- tric, from driver to driverless, from unconnected to connected. Millions of EVs will be on the road by 2020. The first question of course is where and how will all those EVs charge? This is where ChargePoint comes in, providing a compelling answer. That answer is that drivers will charge where they work, eat, shop and play on ChargePoint's network of over 20,000 public charging spots, which are growing at a rate of more than 10,000 a year. Drivers will charge at highway rest stops on long road trips at a ChargePoint Express location (ChargePoint's answer to DC Fast charging) allowing a car to get up to 150 miles of range in just one hour of charging. Drivers will charge conveniently at home at a rate of up to 25 miles of range per hour with ChargePoint Home, the new home EV charging sta- tion launched at the 2015 International CES®. ChargePoint Home is the Silicon Valley based company's newest product, and is the smallest, sleekest, smartest and most advanced home charging station ever brought to market. Founded in 2007, ChargePoint is based in Campbell, Calif. and has raised nearly $114 million in venture backed funding. Its mission – established three years before the first EV was on the road – was to become the network that all EVs would drive on. Today, ChargePoint has more than 70 percent of the public/com- mercial charging market and is now gun- ning for the home market with their newest product. Success to this point can be attributed to their market-based busi- ness model that gives station owners con- trol and flexibility over pricing and access to their stations. This allows for charging to be customized so that it can meet the needs of any business seeking to attract employees, customers, visitors or tenants. Most of ChargePoint's stations are level 2 – meaning they have a universal connector for all cars (Tesla drivers can use an adapter provided with the car) and give an EV up to 25 miles per hour of charging. While you're on a longer trip you'll likely come across one of ChargePoint's DC fast chargers, or as they call them, Express charging locations. These can give you 150 miles per hour of charging. Not all cars have fast charging capabili- ties and depending on the automaker there's a different connector. There's SAE Combo for cars like BMW and Volkswagen and CHAdeMO for Kia and Nissan. Most of the time, ChargePoint's Express charging locations have both connectors to serve all drivers. Whether you are charging at home with ChargePoint Home, or at work on its industry leading CT4000 series or on a road trip charging at a ChargePoint Express location, you can schedule, man- age and track all your charging data with the ChargePoint mobile app. ChargePoint is helping disrupt and transform two century old industries, energy and automotive. With the ChargePoint Home, the smartest and most advanced home charging station, they are helping create a whole new industry – the smart home. A smart home is a home that uses an EV charging sta- tion to charge the car, solar to power clean energy to power the home and automation to manage and control it all. ChargePoint Home even works with Nest. With millions of EVs on the way, and more and more people choosing solar, it seems that ChargePoint will become even more instrumental in driv- ing the disruption in autos and energy and will be a key player in the smart home of tomorrow. But already they are being overtaken by something better – the shapie. The shapie is like a selfie, but instead of taking a photographic self-por- trait, you make a 3D model of yourself. President Obama already knows all about this, having been scanned by Artec hand- held professional 3D scanners for his 3D presidential portrait earlier this year. Now, however, with the new Artec Shapify Booth, a fully automatic 3D body scanner, this technology is in every- one's reach and no longer an opportunity for just the rich and famous. Here's how it works. You stand inside the booth and four professional Artec 3D scanners rotate around you. Your scan is finished in just twelve sec- onds; five minutes later your 3D scan is ready to preview; then order a 3D print of your model through the Shapify printing and delivery service, and it will arrive in the mail a few days later. In case you're worried that a statue of yourself is a little egotistical, you don't have to do the scan alone. The booth can accommodate up to two adults and a child. Plus, there are many different shapie ideas. You could take scans of your children every year, capturing their changing features forever in a series of 3D figures. You could scan yourself and your fiancée to make models of your- selves for your wedding cake. Good at sports? Why not scan yourself with your trophies? Or keep in touch with grandma by sending her a 3D figure of yourself. The shapie craze has already taken off around the globe, with booths operating across the world, including in overseas Walmart- owned stores, while new Shapify Booth installations are planned for Dubai, Luxembourg and Japan in the coming months. Shapify Booths are a serious, scala- ble and profitable business proposition. If you own a venue or can rent space in one, Shapify Booths will generate income, in a similar way to vending machines. Perfect for anywhere with a large footfall – shopping centers, airports, sports stadi- ums, theme parks – Shapify Booths offer something new for your existing cus- tomers and ensure they make return vis- its (to pick up their shapies), as well as attract new people to your venue. Shapify Booths are low maintenance, fully automated and require no expertise to oper- ate. They are robust, too, built using Artec's proven, world- leading 3D-scanning technolo- gy, which is employed globally in various sectors, including medical, automotive and industrial. Furthermore, Artec provides all the relevant software for customer relations management as well as order processing and tracking. It is the complete commercial package. Given the demand for shapies already evident across the world, this is a business opportunity that's going to keep on growing. Don't miss out. Visit Artec at booth #72232.
