MADE IN CHINA, BORN IN THE USA By Ashley Marie Taylor, Creative Team, Simple Living Technology Made in China We've all seen the label stickered on the bottom of store-bought items here in the U.S. But at Simple Living Technology, "made in China" is more than just a stick- er. For Simple Living Technology, it drives our company's vision – a global dream in partnership. Simple Living Technology is a lifestyle tech company headquartered in the sleepy little surf town of Tequesta, Fla., a town where most businesses thrive around the ocean's spoils. But under- neath Tequesta's quite exterior is one of the country's newest and most forward thinking tech companies hard at work introducing the world to innovative lifestyle tech that's simple to use, but per- forms at a caliber equal to that of the most luxurious of items. The key to their success is fully attributed to a long-stand- ing and deeply rooted partnership with their Hong Kong office. Stop by booth #35423 in South Hall and you won't see a typical tech compa- ny. What you'll see is team members and visionaries building a company from the ground up – half of whom just so happen to be from China and half from the U.S.A. – fueled by an entre- preneurial spirit alike that of Silicon Valley's greatest res- idents. Where many American companies sweep shipping sheets from their China manufacturers under the mat, Simple Living Technology takes pride in it. Rather, they view it as an opportunity to support a global economy equally benefiting the interests of all nations involved. "In order to obtain the best technolo- gy, we have to go to the best," said Brant Williams, Founder of Simple Living Technology. "I've traveled to countries in Asia, Europe, throughout the Americas, and what I've found is that the most inno- vative tech comes from the partnerships I've been able to build in Hong Kong. That's why I made them." Head on over to Simple Living Technology's booth at the 2015 International CES ® . Because whether you believe in the promo- tion of globalization or are a firm believer in buying from mom and pop down the street, you have to at least wit- ness the cohesive teamwork taking place at Simple Living Technology. Witness a truly international team building a global culture that blurs borders and leaves nothing lost to translation. Visit Simple Living Technology at booth #35423. SUNFRIEND MONITORS UV RADIATION EXPOSURE FROM THE SUN AS A WAY TO COMBAT GLOBAL HEALTH ISSUES After a soft launch earlier this year, the UVA+B SunFriend is being lauded by consumer electronics editors and the Vitamin D Council, which has hailed it as an effective device for healthy sun man- agement. One in five people in the U.S. will get skin cancer, thought to be from over-exposure to the sun, and 70 percent of the U.S. population is suspected to have vitamin D deficiency. Exposure to sunshine is the major source of Vitamin D for most humans, and health researchers have identified Vitamin D deficiency as a factor in high blood pres- sure as well as musculoskeletal and other disorders. Optimized Vitamin D levels have even been linked to a decrease in risks for many cancers, including breast cancer and skin cancer. Inadequate expo- sure to the sun has also been implicated in Seasonal Affective Disorder, depres- sion and dementia. The product is the brainchild of a NASA scientist with expertise in sensor devices and the idea that the sensors that he was using for space exploration could also help people combating serious health issues such as skin cancer and vitamin D deficiency get a healthier amount of sunshine. He partnered up with branding and business expert Karin Edgett, now the company's CEO, and together with the help of their electronics partner CoolCAD and many others, brought the UVA+B SunFriend to market earlier this year. At the 2015 International CES ® , the compa- ny is debuting a prototype for the next evolution of the device, the SunFriend Bluetooth, which will expand the capabilities of the technology with a very cool app that will help people man- age family sun exposure and vitamin D optimization, and preparing for a nation- wide launch of the product in April 2015. "With the UVA+B SunFriend, you personalize your skin sensitivity level and then just wear it throughout the day. The big idea behind the product is really to prevent sunburn and to allow yourself a healthier amount of sun before you douse yourself with sunblock or flee indoors. You just strap it around your wrist, and a tiny sensor constantly reads the actual UV exposure you are getting and adjusts for brighter sun, reflective UV, clouds, indoor/outdoor activ- ity and more. It's waterproof, so you can even wear it out by the pool or at the beach," Edgett said. UVA+B SunFriend is ideal for those chemical-sensitive people who must avoid sunscreen and for those who work indoors at their computers all day and need a reminder to go outside and get a healthy amount of sun, she added. "SunFriend protects against both under- exposure and overexposure," she said. The device comes in five colors: Orange Citrus, Grey Mist, Blue Ocean, Green Spring and Black/Grey, and retails for $49.99. For further information, visit SunFriend in booth #75542 in Eureka Park. After the show, email safer@sunfriend.com or visit www.sunfriend.com. A HOME IS NOT A HOME WITHOUT "U" Wi-Fi thermostats have long been con- sidered a luxury item for the home, with many models costing hundreds of dol- lars. Even as homeowners have started embracing the technology en masse, the price of a Wi-Fi thermostat has remained cost prohibitive for many – until now. The new "U" series of Wi-Fi ther- mostats from ICM Controls offers a sleek and stylish look with a footprint no bigger than today's smartphones. Expected to launch this spring starting at an amazing $49, the "U" is master- fully engineered with a new, ingenious use of capacitive sensing technology that allows even the most price-con- scious consumer to enjoy the conven- ience of controlling their heating and cooling systems remotely from their smartphone. The "U" is fast and easy to install and connect to your current Wi-Fi network, simple to operate, and features a dynamic user interface that even gives the user the opportunity to custom configure one or more of the cap touch buttons on the ther- mostat via their smartphone to match their personal preference or need. "With the "U," ICM Controls has manufactured a full featured, program- mable Wi-Fi thermostat that truly has the desires of the typical homeowner in mind," said Kevin Jobsky, Director of Sales and Marketing for ICM Controls. "Even with the sophistication built into today's HVAC systems, most homeowners just want simplicity from their thermostat - a basic interface that lets them view and change the temperature settings. They don't want to be confused by scores of features and data points that are so advanced that only a techni- cian can understand them, and that drive the cost up beyond their reach. "The fact that we can add in the con- venience of remote access with a personal touch, and bring it to market at a price point that is below the cost of many standard dig- ital models on the market today speaks vol- umes to the innovation that ICM Controls brings to the marketplace," added Jobsky. The "U" is expected to start shipping this spring. Consumers wishing to learn
