New Vertical Juicers from Omega Omega's new fifth generation vertical masti- cating style juicing machines, the Omega VSJ843Q and VSJ843R, preserve even more of the natural taste and rich nutrition found in fresh produce. The new motor rotates at 43 rpm, approximately 50 percent the speed of the original vertical masticating (low speed) juicers. The tighter fit tolerance of the new dual-edge auger strains more juice and breaks down fiber to a palatable level for a smoother, nutrient-dense juice. The combina- tion of the lower rotation speed, dual-edge auger design and powerful 250-watt motor gently squeezes juice, keeping healthy en- zymes intact, reducing heat build-up, delay- ing the oxidation process and increasing the juice's shelf life. Both models offer the en- hanced features to yield the maximum amount of juice extraction from the least amount of produce. Omega's New Vertical Juicers are available at a MSRP of $459.95. Reach Omega Juicers by phone at 800.633.3401, or visit the company online at www.omegajuicers.com for more information. Ring in the New Year with a New Juicer for a Healthier Lifestyle BY AMBER GALLEGOS When it comes to electric juicers there is such an abundance of options and price ranges that for the uninitiated it can surely be overwhelming. A customer seeking a juicer is most likely going after the associ- ated health benefits, as the method is a quick and easy way to increase intake of fruit and vegetables. With January marking the start of the New Year, many customers may be interested in procuring a juicer to aid in the goal of pursuing a healthier lifestyle. Reaching such a customer will boil down to helping them find the right product in the price range that works with the preferred ingredients and in the cus- tomer's specific time constraints. Electric juicers can be broken down into several larger categories, including citrus juicers, centrifugal juicers and masticating juicers. Citrus juicers fall on the more inexpensive side of the spec- trum and feature a traditional cone reamer that is motorized to maximize ef- ficiency. Obviously, these appliances are only appropriate for citrus and may be best suited for the customer with abun- dant access to fresh oranges, grapefruits, lemons or limes. Otherwise, the high cost of the significant amount of citrus needed for larger batches of juice may negate the citrus juicer as a practical kitchen tool. However, for the customer looking to enjoy a fresh glass of orange juice with his or her breakfast every morning, this type of juicer is ideal. Centrifugal juicers shred, spin and strain produce to extract juice. These machines are the fastest option and are good for harder items like apples, carrots and broc- coli. However, centrifugal juicers do not do very well with leafy greens. The spinning action used in this model can only extract so much juice, and there is also concern that the rapid motion causes heat and fric- tion, leading to oxidation. The large amount of foam produced is another con- cern. Still, the price range of these types of electric juicers is typically in the low-to- mid range, and many consumers are not at all concerned about the oxidation the ma- chine produces. In addition, centrifugal juicers tend to be easy to operate and clean, making them the perfect choice for the consumer looking for a simple way to juice. Masticating juicers operate at a slow speed and utilize a single gear or an auger with blades that turn the produce into a pulp from which the juice is extracted. The resulting pulp yield is typically drier than with other types of juicers, meaning that more of the actual juice ends up where you want it – in the glass. Since these models operate at a slow speed, they may not be the best option for a customer who is short on time. However, the slow speed results in minimum oxidation. Great for leafy greens, masticating juicers also tend to be a quieter. The biggest drawback of masticating juicers may be the price, with these appliances com- monly selling for upwards of $300. Whatever type of juicers you choose to carry in your retail space, knowing the featured benefits and differences among machines is the key to helping customers select a model with which they will be satisfied. GN Cuisinart Pulp Control Citrus Juicer Cuisinart's Pulp Control Citrus Juicer (model no. CCJ-500) uses three adjustable pulp control set- tings (low, medium and high) to ream the small- est lime to the largest grapefruit – all in one handy device. The sleek brushed stainless steel citrus juicer gets out more juice more efficiently with its unique "Final Spin" feature. Its extra- long snap-up spout easily accommodates more glasses and prevents dripping. Dishwasher safe, the citrus juicer also comes with a three-year warranty. The Cuisinart Pulp Control Citrus Juicer is available at a MSRP of $29.95 For more information, contact Cuisinart by phone at 800.726.6247, or visit the company on- line at www.cuisinart.com.
