GOURMET NEWS JANUARY 2015 www.gourmetnews.com WFF PREVIEW 1 6 The latest in specialty foods and beverages from across the United States and around the world will be on display at the Winter Fancy Food Show, taking place January 11- 13, 2015 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Now in its 40th year, the show is the largest marketplace devoted exclu- sively to specialty food on the West Coast. It is a must-attend event where the top names in retailing and foodservice convene to spot trends and find new products for the year to come. "The specialty food industry is thriving as consumers seek out better food for all their dining needs," said Ann Daw, Presi- dent of the Specialty Food Association, the organization which owns and produces Winter Fancy Food. "Our show will pro- vide buyers the unique opportunity to con- nect with food makers and importers who are bringing creativity and innovation to the market." The exhibit halls will be filled with more than 1,300 exhibitors from over 30 coun- tries and regions with some 80,000 prod- ucts ranging from bean-to-bar chocolate, cheeses and olive oil to organic snacks, an- cient grains and new twists on green tea. There will be pavilions from Kansas, Vir- ginia and Maine, strong showings from Ver- mont and Minnesota, several New York food makers exhibiting under the banner "Brooklyn Goes Global" and hundreds of food artisans and entrepreneurs from Cali- fornia. International pavilions will feature food companies from Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Ecuador, Thailand and Japan, among others. A highlight of this year's show is a special thought leader session with Gary Hirsh- berg, co-founder and Chairman of Stony- field Farm, one of the world's leading organic yogurt producers. Hirschberg will share his experience and insights about en- trepreneurship, good growth, differentia- tion and more. The session, which will take place on Tuesday, January 13 from 8:30- 9:45 a.m., is part of a full menu of educa- tion events targeted to all levels of the industry, including newcomers, seasoned food manufacturers and retailers. Other show highlights will include Spe- cialty Food Association's third annual Lead- ership Awards honoring influential and innovative entrepreneurs who are trans- forming the way the specialty food industry does business, as well as the announcement of the organization's new Hall of Fame in- ductees, honoring those individuals whose accomplishments, impact, contributions, innovations, and successes within the spe- cialty food industry deserve praise and recognition. The show's Business Builders program will provide customized match- making services pairing exhibitors with key buyers for one-on-one sessions. In addition there will be a special one-day workshop on the fundamentals of specialty food, a New Brands on the Shelf section featuring more than 30 emerging food entrepreneurs, What's New, What's Hot showcases with hundreds of on-trend products and a sofi™ Awards Showcase featuring winners of the Specialty Food Association's annual food awards. A major donation of food from ex- hibitors at show's end will benefit Bay Area anti-hunger programs. The Specialty Food Association is a thriving community of food artisans, im- porters and entrepreneurs who bring craft, care and joy to the distinctive foods they produce. Established in 1952 in New York, the not-for-profit trade association provides its 3,000 members in the United States and abroad the tools, knowledge and connec- tions to champion and nurture their com- panies in an always-evolving marketplace. The Association owns and produces the Winter and Summer Fancy Food Shows, and presents the sofi™ Awards honoring excellence in specialty food. Learn more at www.specialtyfood.com.
